Hi!

I'd like out of the newbie section, please.   Though I've only just created my first wallet I've known of Bitcoin since the OmegaTau podcast about it two years ago and I understand how it works.  I am not a very talkative person, though, and rather than write four more useless posts in order to gain access to the main forum I figured I'd just ask in here.  Please?

In case it increases my chances of having my account white-listed asap, I thought I would recount how I heard about Bitcoins and a bit about my experience with them. I first heard about BTC when Steve Gibson mentioned them in his podcast "Security Now" in early 2011. He gave what I thought was a very good description of the notion of crypto-currency, which intrigued me. At that time Bitcoin were worth less than a dollar I believe. On his podcast he claimed to have CPU-mined a batch of 50 BTC within a short time frame which means he must have been extremely lucky. I tried in vain to replicate his luck, but didn't actually manage to mint any Bitcoins myself until I set up some GPU mining using an HD5770 (and I think asking some questions about mining setup on this forum in the process). I only managed to solo-mine one batch of BTC, if you don't include the block I mined while my router was off, causing me to not get the block (sigh!).

I'm pleased to see BTC recover from it's crash and I am also happy to see that mining software is a lot more comprehensive these days, now including features such as "failover" in the event that a mining pool is down. There's even a p2p mining pool (p2pool), which is much more advanced than any pool I used to mine with. Recently I have taken an interest in the Alt-currencies. TRC especially as I am able to experiment with and solo mine them with low-grade GPU hardware.

Thanks again Smiley

do you suppose anyone actually reads these or do they just use this as a vehicle to get your post count and logged in time up to where they want it?

Does it matter? Either way it should work.

I guess this is my chance to get out of here so I better write something smart  Grin

I am lurking these forums for one and a half year and I've been using bitcoins around one year now. The topic I check once a day is the wall observer one (who doesn't, it's one of the hottest topics on the forum). So there came to a discussion about lagging on Mt.Gox. Someone commented that Bitstamp should dethrone Mt.Gox, since Bitstamp exchange lags less.

I just wanted to tell him the reasons I don't think that could easily happen, although I use Bitstamp and am *very* satisfied with it. The problem with Bitstamp surpassing Gox is that the traffic on Gox is about 10-30 times larger. Besides there are virtually no bots present on Bitstamp exchange, which represent a big part of traffic that cause lagging.

Folks at Gox are putting a lot of money into their infrastructure and they are on top for a reason. It is just this bubbling and exponential inflow of new money to Btc that cougt them off guard. Besides that, inrastructure-wise, Bitstamp is light years behind. They have 10-30 times less traffic and they are equipped accordingly. Of course they are growing steadily and their service is very good as stated above, but a lot of slow, steady growth will be needed, before they can catch Gox.

That was what I needed to stress in that thread. I kinda feel better to have stated it here, although the right recipient wasn't reached (yet).

This doesn't work.. Three friends of mine have requested a white list and didn't get it... It's better to spend your time and help newb's out by posting anyways.

Hi there,

I'd like to be whitelisted please.

This is my fifth post and so the request is based on the parallel universe the "total time logged in" counter seems to work on....   I can't reconcile how tens of hours reading on here with a counter that says three hours.

With respect to experience/knowledge, I've been following this project since 2011 (that's when I bought my first coins - I don't mine), think I have a pretty good understanding of how the system works (I'm a mathematician, computer scientist and MBA by education), am a financial markets technology architect for a major IT vendor as a day job and my main interest here is in figuring out what impact cryptocurrencies and associated phenomena will have on the existing financial system....   I'm persuaded that Bitcoin (or a successor currency) will change the world - the idea of a credible precommitment not to inflate is too powerful to ignore - but I'm less convinced it will completely disrupt the existing financial players.... and that makes for some very interesting thought experiments about what co-existence looks like.

I'd like to get started discussing this - and need to get out of this playpen in order to do so.

I would really love to get whitelisted, I'd like to try some of the other areas on this forum to help me with my problem. I lost my passphrase and need to get someone to help me find it. I believe my passphrase is brute forceble because I remember most of it just not all, either that or I fatfingered a key along the way.

I've been lurking in Reddit /r/bitcoin and bitcointalk for months but have just been soaking it all in. I've invested what a could over the last 8 months or so. I have accounts at the major exchanges and have been very active since the recent bubble. Ive loaded my reddit bitcoin tip bot.  I see Bitcoin as a part of a general revolutionary trend toward open source distributed 'open democracy' type solutions for society and bitcoin is one piece of that. I'm in. Id love to participate as a full member. I humbly request white list status.

Please release me! lol

I know more than the average newbie. I have already configured cgminer to my computer for Bitcoin, Litecoin, Terracoin, and PPCoin. I know about ASICS, FPGPU's, GPU's and CPU's. I know about KH/s, MH/s, GH/s, and TH/s. I know about scrypt and SHA-256 hashing. I know about solo and pool mining. I learn fast and I think I can be a helpful member of the forum.

Thanks,
Rick
