According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Well, the no use-case problem of the coin emerged. No one actually uses the coin (for now I guess) so its price is dropping like crazy.
Plus there's the inflation of course..

just wondering if this is the single biggest drop in crypto history.  Went from 3000 BTC to 0.81 BTC right now.  what is that like 3800% loss?  This coin is straight bananas.

No, a 3000% loss would mean you would have to pay someone 30X more than you invested to take the coins from you. Maximum possible loss is 100%. I never heard of someone paying someone else to give away their coins. I don't think any cryptocoin would ever be such a white elephant that someone would pay someone to take the coins from them.
Edit: I guess this would be possible if you did a margin long on this coin. However, I am not aware of anyone offering having a margin market on this coin. I could be wrong.

you're right totally.  But even going -99.5% is pretty damn rough.

Any one here to mine zcash as solo ? Tell me if it is possible to mine.
I saw some sold their coin @1000btc per coin and made enough fortune. Who was those guys ? And how they managed to get coins if there were no initial supply and there were delay in every pool's payment. Were they any solo miner ?

I put 10h/sec on it starting around block 200 just for fun, but no luck.

Anybody knows how many coins there will be in total? Currently there are only 960 coins, but in a month 12.5 new coins will be added every 2.5 minutes. It seems madness to even pay the much lower 0.75 btc for a coin now.

currently 960 and 21 million in the end

math helps

From December onwards approximately 220 thousand coins will be mined each month for the next 4 years. Supply will rise dramatically during this month. The onramp is gradual over the next 30 days.

No profit in holding it. Only miners and devs make profit in this. As it is right now the coin is hostile to investors.

Any one here bought at 10+ BTCs? If so, how much did you buy? I imagine this coin has ruined a lot of people.

Feel shame for those who bought high, this coin is worthless because dash and xmr are there, why we need zcash? The price will be 0.00X in the future, like zcoin.

Actually Zerocoin (XZC) looks like a better bet than Zcash (ZEC). It has never been pumped before and still under radar with no hype yet.

I heard Roger Ver is backing Zcoin. anyone can confirm or deny pls?

I think it's certainly in contention for that place. Auroracoin only dropped around 3000-fold according to Coinmarketcap.

I think you are confusing Zcoin with an exchange. Zcoin is an anon coin just similar to Zcash.

I believe Roger ver was an early adopter of bitcoin, an investor in ethereum, monero and zcash. I have heard that is he also secretly backing zcoin.

I also hate that that only select people could invest, and I guess they have their own hype machine. It's so not crypto like.

Z it too far back in the alphabet, too hard to find.  Go with ARK, starts with A.  Comes up top on alphabetical lists.

Is anyone cloud mining zcash? Any idea how many coins 12h would bring for a year?
there is no way to calculate that.
