Maybe Grant Thornton had no intention of asking Cryptopia users for their opinions because one of the first things victims would ask for would have been assurances that Grant Thornton cap the amount of money they could make from the recovered funds which would mean victims would receive a larger share of their individual losses.

The first and most important thing that GT has to do, is to find a way to verify users without such a complex system as they have now. Even if it's like all the other exchanges. It seems that they prefer users/ holders not to be able to claim their funds, thus they use this outrageous verification process and that makes it already a travesty.

You have to wonder why GT never reached out to the users of Crytopia and asked us how we would approach the task of refunding funds (as well as securing the funds in the first place)

What is the point of going through with this process if you have to send KYC?
If you don't register, you can guarantee that you won't be getting anything back... to register your claim, you have to complete the KYC process...

So, you'll need to weigh up whether your "privacy" is worth more to you than the amount of "loss" you'll suffer by not completing the claim registration.
I had to compromise my personal data with hopes that I get results. I’m not expecting much but in my jurisdiction, every dollar contributes greatly. Thinking of how $100 alone can influence one’s life motivates me to try my luck.

I have still all my cryptopia emails since becoming a user, including the last withdrawal I made May 2nd 2019, so quite a while after the hack, when they allowed BTC withdrawals (I had only BTC, or maybe some dust of altcoins).

I remember that however only 90% of BTC was available, cryptopia keeping 10% for the time being, so what I'm looking at is getting these 10% (which is still a good amount).

Anyone else here is in this case ?

So you can start thanking me, I will answer you how to register a claim correctly and without errors.

1.You must follow the link from the letter
2. The first common problem is a non-working captcha where you enter the address, in order for it to work, you just need to choose the address that Google offers you. If you enter your name and your address and do not click from the list, Google will not let you through.
3.At the end of the registration, you will have an email password from him and an autifier. Enter everything and that heavy page appears with a choice of account confirmation.
4.I chose the registration date first, as this is the easiest confirmation. We are looking for 1 letter from the cryptopia in the mail using the built-in search. There will be a registration date, BUT this is your local date, and you need a date in New Zealand time. To do this, open Google and search (what time it is in New Zealand) then by the time that was in your letter, you either add or minus the difference between your local and New Zealand. It may turn out to be 1 day more, maybe 1 less, or maybe get the same day.
5.Secondly, I chose the output date that I had last. Also, I started searching for letters in the email and found that I displayed ltc and the address to which I displayed. Everything is also simple. We open coinmarketcap and the coin you are interested in. Under the rank there will be Explorer. Open all Explorer and look for the address you are looking for. By finding the address you can easily find that transaction with the hash and time (the time, as in the previous paragraph, should be summed up under New Zealand (you can see the local time in your letter) ).

Ask your questions, since I am also lost and I would like to help all caring people.

Thanks man your post helped me a lot. I just made the claim and hope for the best. It took me about 2 hours to compile the list of information required and I hope it will be enough. I made stupid mistake and locked my account by entering wrong username a few times, so I had to make the customer support ticket, but I hope customer service will resolve that soon. I finally have hope that I will get my coins after all that time.

By the way this is information that Cryptopia requires to unlock the account if someone makes the same mistake as I did:

Quote
Thank you for your submission in order for us to unlock your account and progress your registration please ensure that your ticket includes the following to ensure the fastest resolution:

• Your basic account information being your registered email, username.

This should be combined with as much historical Cryptopia account information as you can recall, primarily:
• Trades
• Balances
• Deposits
• Withdrawals
• Wallet addresses
• Payment IDs
• Transaction IDs
• Login dates
• IP address
• Registration date

Alternatively, if you were a level 2 or 3 verified Cryptopia user, please include within the request a valid photo ID, as well as a picture of yourself holding the same photo ID with a handwritten note of today’s date.

Is it possible to find out what coins and how much you had there without going through the actual KYC process?

I really can't remember if I had 0 or 10 BTC there and don't want to KYC with the possibility that I actually have 0 balance.

No sorry , there is no other way as going through the whole KYC process to claim any of the Coins that you have got or on your balance.
If you would read the latest updates from the Liquidators you would be know that as they have written it there already a few times .
Without making the KYC and Claim Portal process there is no chance to get anything .

Am I really the only guy who was able to get coins from Cryptopia around that time ? I just checked back in time on the topic and we were plenty. Incidentally the BTC haircut was 14%, so if I could get these 14% back, that would be a nice amount for Christmas. Nobody has any idea ?

About getting your funds back?  I can tell you with 100% certainty that you won't be getting anything back this Christmas... There is no way for you to access your coins. GT now control all the keys. You play by their rules or you get nothing. Whether there will actually be anything left to recover after their ridiculous fees is another story. Undecided

They could pay GT with unclaimed gas and airdropped tokens, do they don't have to touch users funds:
https://neoscan.io/address/AJzoeKrj7RHMwSrPQDPdv61ciVEYpmhkjk

Also it is interesting that someone sent some funds to that address for Christmas and yesterday. Hmm interesting

OK fuck me WTF bitcoin you on steroids!!!

Does GT still hold any bitcoins on behalf of Cryptopia or they sold the lot off to fiat? That would be tragic.

Just thinking of this hack is a fucking tragedy for Cryptopia it could have been as big as Binance and would have been huge for NZ.

Fuck what a waste.

I was thinking the same, I'm pretty sure I didnt have any Bitcoin on the exchange because
im not in the habit of doing that but I am about 80% certain there were some ALT's on
my account though. I think there was ETN Electroneum there. I think I will try the registration
process and see what happens.

and I would imagine this is going to be a lengthy process!

I visited the Cryptopia Claims Portal and I see that I should have received an
email invitation to to register, I never got that so I have sent an e-mail
Cryptopia/Grant Thornton, lets see if I get anywhere at this stage.

and I would imagine this is going to be a lengthy process!

I visited the Cryptopia Claims Portal and I see that I should have received an
email invitation to to register, I never got that so I have sent an e-mail
Cryptopia/Grant Thornton, lets see if I get anywhere at this stage.
All user who put their email address on cryptopia should be received an email from them to claim the remaining balance. I also got it, but since idk it's legit or not, and wouldn't risk my KYC only for some bucks of my balance on there
