This must sound stupid but I can't find a f*ckin clue anywhere, and I can't believe nobody has made this question before: how do you identify a specific gpu from 6 identical cards in a mining rig? The only thing special about this card is 10ºC more in GPU temperature. You can't tell it apart with your hand obviously. Is there any option in Claymore miner that can help with that?

Is this an Asrock H81 Pro BTC mobo or something else?  If it is Asrock we can help you figure out the gpu order.

1st slot is always the PCIe x16 that is closest to the CPU. All other cards are numbered from the one closest to the CPU, going outwards (mixing PCI & PCIe)

** If you have an embedded GPU, then this is the 1st one, and the rest follow as above

Does anyone have a experience running the XFX R9 295 X2?  SOLs/settings/temps/watts/...

560 Sols total, 1100 core, 1500 mem, 72C and 68C temps, no idea about power, probably around 450W.

With those settings and default voltage it is more like 560w at the wall. It starts throttling at 75C, sometimes earlier depending on power limit.

Mine are in custom loop except one 'reference' model. It has default sapphire oc bios with 1030/1300, running it right now undervolted&clocked 886/1250 470s/s 360w at the wall. Voltage is 0.97V with AB -100mV, could be more efficient but needs more bios modding on that dpm2-5 area, been too lazy for that so far.

EDIT: 58 and 55C, ambient 27C.

I run it at work with free electricity, so never bothered measuring power consumption. I simply overclock it using Trixx. I found if I go any higher than 1100/1500 one core starts to throttle around 74~75C. Ambient 26C.

Btw, I can't undervolt in Trixx or AB. Is that because I'm using driver 16.11.x? The voltage setting is locked. I'm thinking about improving the cooling with a push/pull, then maybe give it a few more mV and overclock it more if I can. Any advice here? I can't run 15.x.x driver because I also have a Nitro 470 alongside the 295x2. Unless there's some magical way of installing two driver versions for the two cards...

295x2 is good on density, easily over 1000 sols/s from two pcie slots, it looks and feels pro if that pump is silent. It is really good at xmr. About everything else speaks for 470.

470 is much more efficient on dagger. Sweet spot for 295x2 is ~52-54MH/ ~340w, 470 does much better. If you forget power costs then it is 295x2 all the way, used to run them ~65MH when one 295x2 made 20€/ day.

Yesterday tested undervolting on my Giga RX 470 Gaming G1 4Gb.

On stock (1230/1650):
Idle - 90 W/wall , Mining - 216-230 W/wall ( 75avg  W in GPU-Z).

Undervolted -90mW in AB stock clocks :
Indle - 90W/wall ( didnt measured , I gues it was same), Mining - 190-200 W/wall ( 52avg W in GPU-Z)

So its about 30 W less power usage . Anyone got same results ?

It's not 200W. RX 470 is doing around 5-10W in idle so if you take 230W and subtract 80W (mobo + psu + other stuff) it leaves you at 150W for GPU at the wall, so GPU is actually using around 130W if we assume that PSU has 85% efficiency.

well not that efficient, while the 1070 is more expensive it can do 220 sol at 95w, ratio is an impressive 2:1 between hashrate and consumption

I have silentarmy builds and my 1070s only do 120 or so sols where are you getting these numbers

Why not use Claymore v8? It's like 100% faster than any SA build
Claymore only works for AMD cards

If you undervolt RX470 you'll get 170-180 sols at 120W but the price is half of gtx1070 Smiley

Yeah, Nvidia fanboys can keep buying 1070s claiming they are more efficient.  Newsflash, you can get 2 1/2 470s for the price of a single 1070. Sure the 1070 is slightly more efficient, but at 2.5x the cost, it's still going to take ages go pay back.  Oh, and it has taken a month to get a good Nvidia miner, so you missed out on huge early profits. The only good miner is also locked to NiceHash, which has lower payout than mining at a pool.

My guess is, if you have free or very cheap electricity, the 295x2 is a viable option. It hashes around 60MH on ETH with the right settings. Another advantage of water cooling is lower noise levels, compared to 6 card rigs.

Otherwise, it's pretty hard to beat a 470 with a low power bios mod in terms of efficiency, unless you somehow manage to get some R9 nano with Eliovp/Heliox low power rom.

My third choice would be 2 Pro Duos  Grin  But those are crazy expensive and would take years to ROI.

Replacing that default fan and adding another one for push&pull gives you 5-10C more to play with. If you give it more voltage your pcie power cables & connectors are in danger. Try with hand , if they feel warm/ hot you need to do something.

Trixx doesn't let you undervolt 295x2 but AB does. You sure you checked all those basic amd settings in AB? But with AB you are stuck on -100mV when you actually want to go much lower. This is where you need some basic hawaii bios modding.

Actually only reason why I haven't done some serious modding yet is because they release +20% miners every three days...


I can run the R9 390 with 0.98V and 950 MHz, having a hash rate about 250 and 160W at the wall. 295 should be better than that if undervolted as it uses better quality chips.

Last version of miner raised temperature to ETH level for 290 cards. Perhaps if new version will increase speed then temperature may become critical for me.
Perhaps this is the problem with cooling.

RX480 LED controlling with Trixx won't help you in this case. (The order Trixx shows you isn't the order Claymore sees)
Why it needs to find out a link between Trixx and Claymore?

Whatewer, just use -d option to enable only one gpu at once, step by step - and you find it by gpu load, clocks and temps (GPU-Z, MSI AB, Trixx)

You might want to check power usage numbers again when mining ETH as its considerably higher than when mining ZEC.

Eh? If you buy an RX480 now or in a years time, its still going to be an RX480 and ASIC quality is still going to be the same.

Eh? If you buy an RX480 now or in a years time, its still going to be an RX480 and ASIC quality is still going to be the same.


Edited my post but you were too quick.

It was about hawaii, 2014 they handpicked best chips to 295x2. In 2015 (390) average hawaii chip was as good as those cherry picked in 2014.
