With the announcement of FPGA mining from https://www.Zcash-Miner.com, do you think GPU mining will still be a thing?

Quote
Happy New Year everyone. We have successfully implemented Equihash on FPGA leading to major performance boost in Zcash mining.

Source: https://twitter.com/ZcashMiner/status/815512912546541568

they said they will change the algorithm once one was created. Plus I haven't seen any major change on the network hashrate. This could be marketing to attract miners to their farm

FPGA might not be too efficient.

Hi, can anyone tell me which card is currently the best for mining in terms of h/w. Currently I have 2x rx470 4gb and 1x hd 7950 and I get 615 h/s with 440w consumtion. I have them all undervoltet. If stock, rig is working at 540w. I have opportunuty to get msi rx480 4gb for 220€ but am not shure to buy it.

For the best H/$ you need to look at the Fiji cards.  The R9 Fury is about 345H/$260 running all out and 300H/$260 running efficiently.

Edit: For the best H/W you need to look at the 1070.  The H/$ on the 1070 is quite a bit higher than the Fury though.

For the most efficient overall gpu with a future other than just Zcash is the RX 470.  Getting them in the USA for about $164 and getting 231Hs = $/H = 164/231 = $0.71 cents per hash (use this measure is for purchasing).

Long term you need to evaluate the Hash per Watt = H/W.  You want this number to be as large as possible to be most efficient.
Each RX470 is reading an ave of 70W on GPU-Z.  Hash per gpu is 231Hs.  H/W = 231Hs/70W = 3.3Hash per watt.

Whole system (7GPUs) at the wall is 1623Hs/1258Watts = 1.29Hs/W

*Hs = SOLs = Hash

Can You tell me few online USA shops with good price of RX480, please?

Cheers

by the way: 480 4g - how many H/s has RX480 with 4Gb?

I think that when buying GPUs for mining other important factor is resale value. I know a lot of guys that have free electricity but instead of R9 390s they got for RX 470 because in case something change they will always be able to sell them to gamers.

nah - shouldn't be. I run a nVidia GTX along side a RX480, hah.
hahaha:) really?  If it s working i am thinking of buying r9 290x
yeah you can run 290x with 480 , just buy nano instead of 290x the price is same
even nvidia can run with amd card on same special msi motherboard,

thanks dude one more think How is the r9 290x tri x?

390x are more likely to hold value than 470s if you buy the 390s used vs. 470 new. Just a point.

Nvidia people are beating us.

Almost 500 H/s with their overpriced 1070 and almost 600 H/s with the even more overpriced 1080.

Dear Sir,
I have a strange issue(I don't know if its issue at all)
This is displayed when I start miner.
Quote
AMD Cards available: 1
GPU #0: Hawaii, 3072 MB available, 40 compute units
GPU #0 recognized as Radeon 290

But clinfo recognizes it correct:
Quote
Number of devices:                               1
  Device Type:                                   CL_DEVICE_TYPE_GPU
  Vendor ID:                                     1002h
Board name:                                    AMD Radeon (TM) R9 390 Series
  Device Topology:                               PCI[ B#2, D#0, F#0 ]

And also the memory of the GPU is 8GB, not 3GB as zecminer says...
Should I be worried?

@claymore
Thank you for your great miner but i have a question. On my r9 nanos iv seen only 2gb of memory used to mine... there must be soace for the other 2gb to be used effectively right? I mean i want to try utilise the whole of the gpu which could enable alt more hashes if correct? Maybe im wrong lol

Can You tell me few online USA shops with good price of RX480, please?

NewEgg's eBay shop - which has a lower price than their main website 'cause they don't waste the money on those stupid "free game" offers.
