Quite frankly, there was very little chance that litecoin dev agreed to change their algo (but hey the guy who proposed has been offered a position in dev team, that's certainly the only thing he wanted... this and getting some attention...) and to be honest I don't think it would be good for the coin in terms of image if they changed everything.
Also it is in the best interest of a coin to have the strongest network possible (especially as there was some fear of a 51% attack from a pool a week or two ago, obviously this could also comes from asics, but it also make easier to secure the network).

For gpu mining, it will just move to some other coins and some other algos which can also be profitable (assuming bitcoin survives next summer)

But because coins have such a long mining time it is. The only coins that will ever be asic resistant are those on an algo that asics arent for that are totally mined in less then a year. So asic devs dont have time to develop them

Agreed,but once a coin is released,changing it's algo to prevent competition from ASICs can be a big problem. Look at Litecoin now. Moreover,once your coin has got the necessary market leverage,it's very hard to push people onto something else. It can be disruptive and generally bad for confidence. So,yeah...that's what's bothering me. I guess you need money to make money.

Surprising that all the "cuda coins" we did in ccMiner look pretty profitable in your charts.
I had almost written off fugueCoin already...

but beware, the buyer market for Fugue is weak, and it may drop sharply in price whenever
there's currently no buyer.

Also Yacoin is doing pretty good, despite the fact that the coin is currently sold under value (IMHO).

I do like my Yac. The sell pressure has been stronger than usual lately, but based on the order book on Bter you can see that someone is trying to recover the price by stacking the price ladder full of small quantity trades on the sell side.

Both the devs have a good point though. Hark forking can have serious consequences and X11's longer confirmation times can be a problem. The scrypt miners have been at it for a month already. Check the difficulty raise this month. It's gone from 3500-6500 at it's peak. Almost doubled. This is just the beginning. More are coming and the first units that have been hashing from the beginning of this month will only be shipped late June/July. I,for one,can't imagine what's going to happen to mining at home when the ASICs are in full swing,say,by this September or October.

Ultimately what matters to a coin is a secure blockchain. Everything depends on that.
ASICs will accomplish this. The CPU, then GPU, has been a great environment for the coin to grow, but now it's time to grow up.

Profitability for GPU miners is not the primary concern of the Litecoin developers.

They made the only sensible decision. Or rather, continued to let things run the course they need to run.
This X11 fork nonsense was good for a quick chuckle, nothing more.

Lol,at this rate,nothing is safe. But Scrypt-N coins don't have the required marketcap to necessitate the creation of ASICs. At this rate,the only algo's that seem safe are the Primechain and whatever Riecoin's running on.

Only algo that is truly asic proof is variable n factor with scheduled changes, not the year long vertcoin n factor change...that's too darn long but the devs said they would hard fork if need be.

Those "clowns" are targeting 50% pre-mines without any guarantee of distribution the way it is claimed by the devs, not country coins per se. I'd strongly oppose them, if they did. It's none of their business if foreigners like Icelanders (or Portuguese for that matter) want a localized alt-coin.

I really dont have a hatred of ASICs per se..  it's this bit that gets me.  If you could literally hop on newegg or amazon or wtf ever, order whatever the new kickass asic is
and have it show up a couple days later i really wouldnt care.  Its the "pre-order now so it'll make you half the money (if you're lucky) that you would have made when you ordered it!"

All the bastards do is announce the "new tech" and let you pre-order while theyre using it and developing the next best thing. When the next best thing is ready they start using that and pass off the leftovers as the latest and greatest at full price and you get to be behind the big boys yet again.
