That's not very fair AizenSou. There was no screaming here, in fact, I was just responding to the poster that was asking others to join at the attempt of guessing what "new algo" C&C were working on.

In any case, since you asked, my motivation for a GPU miner is quite simple: I have 2x really old Xeons, and 4x 750TIs, and that's really all that I mine with (I'm not much into the cloud/renting approach to be honest, don't get as much fun out of it). For the technical aspects, and to diversify a little, I am aiming to mine some Monero. If all I can through at it are the 2x old Xeons, then so be it. These are making me little over 1 coin a day. If I could have the 750TIs also on it, with reasonable performance, I'd be happy to mine some more. That's it...

Side note: I think C&C get's his "fix" from the challenge really, so the harder it is, all the better, and more fun is had along the way. New "cpu only" algo = C&C's porn  Grin

Cheers,
~ Myagui

Right now mining MRO or QCN with CPU are very PROFITABLE. I don't think it will last but MRO or QCN's profitability is still on high ride for over 2 week already. My old core i5 earned me with QCN roughly 0.1BTC per day.
Why don't you think that if cryptonight were gpu-mineable, everyone will jump in and kill your profit ? It already happened with every CPU-only coin. Look at Heavy, Riecoin and now Primecoin.

Btw IMHO Christian has enough things to do with ccminer already so it is best for him, and for us too, to let him concentrate in what he's planning to do.

Sorry if I sound too harsh.

Regards,

Aizen

Hi guys!

I've been trying for 2 days to get my 560ti working with ccminer 1.0
and it just doesn't and since I'm not getting any kind of error I have no idea what is wrong.

I hashes, but the pool doesn't receive anything, what to do?
I have that 2010 Sp1 thing installed

with the new miner coming out, will 750ti be able to hash at least 2.8 or more?

You are using the wrong version. 560ti is CUDA 2.1 This is no longer officially supported. Bombadil has compiled a version that works with CUDA 2.1

Your 560 ti is cuda 2.1, the newest version does not support that. You need the version Bombadil made ( https://mega.co.nz/#!gBlGVZbT!0Pxo_T1P89UWmC866NVFIwEd3MJaAfRsdO8L5p4uvz0 ). Good luck.

New x11 coin are needed every other day. If not there are too few coins to handle the massive global hashrate. Imagine every single x11 coin have at least 100gh. Too few coin will spell dooms day for miner. Those coins are helping miner to make money.
oh, I didn't realize that you were thinking that real money was appearing out of nowhere...
For a coin to become valuable, someone has to invest (or believe) in it.
Most likely what they have to invest is finite. Meaning if they have 100$ to invest in coins, there won't be more.
So if there is one coin and they put their 100$ dollar in that coin, the coin has a value of 100$
Now if there is 100 coins and they put their 100dollars on all these coins, each coins get 1$ dollars... meaning that all of them are worth nothing.
(if you expect that investor will spend 100 dollars on 100 coins, then you are a bit delusional. I don't even mention the fact they will lose also a lot... so at the end they may well spend less...)

So I don't know what money there is to make for miners out there. It is more likely they will lose a lot because there will spend electricity on running on shitty coins having absolutely no value and they will keep missing those who have real value. (I assume when you have large farm you don't want to play lottery too much with your investment and you are more interested in something having a certain future. Also it is very likely that very big farm will be moving to asic and may-be keep some gpu for experimentation... )

yep I see that, you are a serious joker and don't take critics too well Grin
unhappy with the comment you get, may-be you shouldn't have posted here  Grin (I usually repost a few coins here, but there are coins which present a challenge to the C&C ) and again stop posting as newbie if you want your meme-non-joke-coin be taken "seriously" (whatever it means).

Plenty of coins trying to be taken serious that are complete jokes. Very well said dim! That made my morning, lol.

I haven't used Nicehash. Is CCminer compatible for X11?
Yes, i'm using it as a failover pool (with pfool stratum proxy).

Failover? How can we set failover in CCminer?
It isn't set in CCminer, but on the stratum proxy. All my miner (a 780ti and a 770) are pointing to my stratum proxy and the proxy is automatically switching from one pool to another using the right username/password for each.
Here is an exemple of my hashrates for the 3 pools I have set.

I won't mind it, dude  Grin. I have earned enough so it is time for my nVidia fellows to earn some. Btw this kind of earning is 2 weeks ago. I was just lucky jumping in QCN right after start so the diff is still super low. It is like the dude here who earned with his 780 GTX 0.1BTC/day with CureCoin. The early bird catches the worm, right? Wink
Btw, I just calculate with the current diff and current price of QCN so you could earn 1$/day with one CPU. It is still 4 times more profitable than others CPU-coins.

PM Prof. Andersen. He created the riecoin-miner Cheesy. Btw there is a button called SEARCH. You could find a lot of information in this thread.

All good Aizen, makes perfect sense that we all have different opinions on these things.

I generally don't agree with the notion that getting GPU miners onboard a coin implies a value drop. The value drop happens when GPU mining performance largely exceeds what was possible with CPUs, thus the GPU miners are "willing" to dump their coins at much lower values as they still obtain or perceive a large "relative profit". This drop is usually short lived if the coin has strong merits.

Over time, mining cost balances out with exchange rate, assuming that the daily coin generation remains the same. Fluctuations are anyhow to be expected, much like we see that whenever there is a big price spike for a certain coin, it's nethash goes up dramatically, even if just for a short period of time, as miners jump on it for instant profit... Heck, that's the business of the multi-pools, isn't it...

If Nvidia could mine cryptonight, but not AMD, my "profits" would not really change, simply because I would be holding long term. I would expect to be mining more coins per day, as my mining power relative to the overall nethash would increase, since Nvidia is still a small portion of the miners out there.

Btw: RieCoin GPU? I did a quick search and didn't find anything. I had even asked about a GPU miner on the ANN thread long ago. I had mined some, for the scientific curiosity I suppose, but the development pace was not to my liking, so I have turned away from it since.

EDIT: I thought DGA (that's Prof. Andersen, right?) had only been releasing CPU miners... Still not found anything...

Cheers,
~ Myagui

I'm not really sure you can mine Riecoin with GPU. There are multiple versions of a CPU miner though, and as stated above,Dave Anderson is the lead dev for the CPU miners.

now that xpm value is dropping and difficulty is pretty high, I am pretty sure that we should see soon many 5% (or more) fee gpu software
