I run 6 cards with 4gb under win7 64 bit, trying to run 7 makes it look like a nintendo cartridge need to be blown out.  The motherboard makes all the difference.

I use to mine using Ubuntu 12.04 lts
4gb should be enough, but because you have x86 you won't be about to use more then a little over 3gb

I know it works on 4gb, and he is using windows not Linux.  So even the OS will use more ram.

Sorry dude I misread your saying. I thought you mean 8GB is at least for running 5GPUs rig so it is confusing for newcomer. And RAM is much expensive than last year, at least twice.

I prefer Debian minimal but I can't still get newest nVidia driver for 750Ti working with this. So I stay now with xubuntu 13.10. You could try lubuntu for more speed and less ram.

Spent days to test 5x 6x and 7x750Tis rigs and I decide to build my 750Ti farm with Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 mobo. I found Asrock has the best compability with Linux but still didn't find any ASrock mobo with 6 slots PCIe. Anyone has better suggestion for me?

Do you have x1 risers connected into your x16 slots to run 6?

More to the point, is it x1 usb risers or x16 to x16 ribbons?

I have considered the AsRock H81 Pro BTC because its so cheap but its only for Intel. I try the whole day today to get the MSI Z87-G55 to work with 7 GPUs under Linux but I failed .

I prefer AMD because I want to support AMD CPU. And I want to build a small CPU farm too, just 20 AMD CPUs. Not so big but its fun.

Cpu farm, I believe Intel is the way, just on power saving.
I have seen 7 cards being run on a msi gd65 motherboard.

The other Intel one is Haswell only, pretty cheap to set up, low power overheads. And will support 6 gpus and may allow for you to use the on aboard so all gpus run at full power

before I bought the H81, I also wanted to go with a AMD cpu. However, the price of the H81 is perfect, it works good and offers a lot. The whole rig (celeron cpu & 5 x 750Ti) only pulls 240Watt from the wall (according to my kill-a-watt), so maybe you want to think about going with AMD again. If you build 20 rigs, you can save A LOT of money (just by going with the cheap H81)!

I guess my question is mainly;

1) will long usb cables provide much noise and performance drop? I am talking the high quality, thick insulated usb 3 cables, 5m or so
2) the usb 3 risers should be fine to be connected into x16 slots right? They should connect just to one part I believe? Never had to look at this before

the main issues from an engineering perspective are:
- a delay that may be outside specs for PCIe (finite travel speed of signals in copper wire...)
- excessive signal attenuation (this is HF signals after all)

I would not recommend going past 1m... Sure you can try, but I am sceptical.

At work we have a number of NVIDIA QuadroPlex boxes that are cabled to a card that goes into the host machine.  The cables on these boxes are something approximating 2m in length.  The host card contains some kind of PCIe bridge chip and somewhere, either on the host card or in the external box backplane, there's a PCIe switch to allow the two GPUs in the box to connect to the single PCIe slot in the host machine.  I have no idea how special the hardware is there, but clearly the 2m long cable doesn't cause problems in that scenario.  They use VHDCI cables for the link from the host card to the external box.  I know that the USB-based PCIe riser cables are nothing compared to what NVIDIA did for the QuadroPlex, but the QuadroPlex might be considered the top-end version of what is feasible.  Besides the QuadroPlex boxes, there are various vendors that sell other variants of high-end external PCIe backplanes with on-board PCIe switches and the like.  The only problem is that all of these external boxes tend to cost $5k to $10k for an empty box of PCIe slots and power supply.

It would be interesting to see how well these low-cost PCIe risers would work if they used a higher quality cable more along the lines of what NVIDIA does for the QuadroPlex.

Since Christian brought up the HF frequencies:  One thing that's not so good about building the "milk crate" or "open air" machine that lots of people do is that with no computer case, there's no RF shielding, and you're likely going to emit all manner of RFI, polluting the radio spectrum with all kinds of terrible hash.  As an amateur radio hobbyist, I would beg that people take that into consideration and consider ways to do better than leaving the boards just laying on a shelf.  If you've got a pile of motherboards sitting on a shelf, some conductive mesh (e.g. for window screen) fashioned into a faraday cage around the systems would help null that out...

USB3.0 cables are SFTP... So I guess you're much better off with USB3.0 risers than those simple ribbon ones.

hey guys. I am getting 80 MHash/s on 750Ti with Fuguecoin with a binary built for Compute 3.5 - I think we'll put out an update tonight, possibly including a Compute 3.5 build in addition to the 2.0 build.

Also a GTX 570 will do 100 MHash then, a 580 probably more (130?)

I also included the "Google Chrome trick" as part of ccminer. It now requests 1ms multimedia timer precision on its own so you don't have to rely on Chrome, Flash, Windows Media Player to do this for you

You open fuguecoin.conf add it if not already exist:

Sadly i can confirm it doesn`t work with 5m cable , it is not detected by the board at all.

I can`t sort out why is cudaminer using 50% cpu even with -H 2 , reinstalled driver restarted , but nothing helps , any ideas?
