Maxwell really got me into Nvidia and made me forget about AMD for a while... but now that I'm poking around with AMD again and learning a lot more in the process, I've gotten a huge AMD-boner. Why?
sure, bone those AMD cards, they also deserve some love. but you won't have features like warp shuffle, __byte_perm intrinsics that allow for some neat tricks in our hash codes.

Well, first, raw power is cool. Second, AMD and Nvidia have switched places in mining. What I mean is, people used to think Nvidia sucked hard at mining because there was no one who knew their asshole from their elbow when it came to CUDA performance tuning. Now, we have some pretty skilled people in here, doing great work... and there's almost nobody who can even properly port an algorithm to GCN - and optimize? I'd sooner get my pet cat doing calculus.
Hate to break it to you, but Nvidia is so much more power efficient now not solely because of the hardware, but because of the quality of the code running on it. That, of course, is not to say that Nvidia is NOT more power efficient than AMD - they are - but looking at this huge chasm in hash per watt between AMD and Nvidia, it is not truly what it seems to be.
The AMD are much more powerful than nvidia for calculation. For example on skein which is just a bunch of rotation (so not much to optimize), the nvdia loose badly against the amd... (there would be something to optimize on whirlpool for the amd at that level, but I won't tell ![Tongue](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/tongue.gif) ) But programming with sgminer is a mess... (I thought I some point making an amd xcn miner...) but thinking to everything I would have to modify I gave up... Also the new cards with there water cooling included on stock design is pretty nice

Honestly i hate it. The radiator hose is only so long making placement a pain. Can you imagine trying to find space for 2 radiators (don't forget the hose isn't long at all) if you do crossfire?

Must admit that would be a mess... But it is a lot cheaper than the standard water cooling equipment, I thought of buying one of these kit from arctic cooler(but was out of stock...). However with the gtx980, it is even better, the temp never goes higher than 71°C 72°C (at least I haven't seen anything as high as the 780ti which I limit to 79~80°c) Right now same algo and mostly same hashrate: gtx980: 72~°C fan at 88% // gtx780ti 79°C fan at 100%

Yeh, the nvidias are good at that. Watercooled the 980 would probably never even hit 40'C, i know my 780 which has the CPU before it in the loop never gets past 45'C even with everything maxed out. different story when i set the fans to their slowest speed and forget to turn them up when i start maxing stuff out ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Anyone still mining Ultra Coin?
If so do you have a current bat for a 750ti?

If you are going to leave your BTC on an exchange please send it to this address instead 1GH3ub3UUHbU5qDJW5u3E9jZ96ZEmzaXtG, I will at least use the money better than someone who steals it from the exchange. Thanks ![Wink](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

+1 750ti is still the best card for mining... It's about the same efficiency as the v2 280x cards... Nvidia mining isn't all that good to be honest, with the lack of API support and no ability to tweak settings, ATI is still where it's at for mining... ability to tweak ? There is visual studio for that... (and there is practically nobody to tweak, that's why usually there is shitload of message asking for somebody else config... meaning the less possibility to tweak, the better for everybody... and the modo should thank us... less to read too ![Grin](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/grin.gif) ) You shouldn't need Visual Studio to tweak settings for a miner lol! More people would donate if they knew exactly what was possible, at the moment it's all smoke and mirrors and rumours of private mining groups having massive performance gains through custom mining software from the deep web... ![Roll Eyes](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/rolleyes.gif)

What kind of performance increases do you get compared to regularly available miners?
