Why isn't there more intrest in altcoins which actually have something to offer / a project?
Factom? Ripple? Iconomi? Civic? Stellar? etc...
FYI, since many ppl who put their favorites here, probably have them in their wallet, I'd like to add, I've only got one of the five I've mentioned ;-)
Factom is good altcoin should invest in today because the price of this coin has falldown to range price in May, before the time this coin pumped. Ripple in current need falldown to @4000 for think again and buy small amount, but I think this coin not should invest in long term because this is a token! I forgot to mention MAIDSAFE.

That’s pretty okay if you missed this particular coin but the point is no altcoin is going to have safe and sound future. I don’t know why people keep investing in coins such as altcoins. They are pretty useless coins in the market and are not showing any big increase in their value, leaving the supporters disappointed.

Based on what it has been seen among the wide array of altcoins such as development, innovation, and security issues, what altcoins might survive in the future? In my opinion, I think that the only ones prone to survive would be good old altcoins such as Litecoin and Dogecoin, but I may be wrong. Nevertheless, I would like to know your opinion about this as well as any altcoin that might be worth holding onto for the long term. In my opinion, Ethereum and Waves are the coins that have big potential to survive in the future, For now, they have already got a good step into crypto world, so their survival is almost sure in the future, they will be continued to develop and be used for everything or at least, most of the things people need to do.

It is more risky indeed to use altcoins and yet you can win a jackpot if you invest in the right one (the problem is that it's not easy to decide which one will lead to good future). And yet altcoins can draw one's attention in terms of investments. You may take a good and trusted casino and invest in, say, ltc bankroll.

Dogecoin will survive in my opinion. Because the price is relatively stable And many people use it.
Agree. Dogecoin is one of those altcoins that might survive in the future given its huge fan base and supportive community. It sure lacks development and innovation, but I guess that it wouldn't be of much importance as long as it is being actively trading on the markets. The DOGE has many good use cases, that make it hard to beat. Being an old altcoin, it stands strong everyday with the nodes and miners constanly supporting its blockchain. Things aside, other altcoins that might survive would be Litecoin and Ethereum. The latter has very active development and usage, while Litecoin has outstanding speed which could be used as digital cash unlike Bitcoin which it serves its purpose as a store of value. Just sharing my thoughts

Well, I've started here 2010 and the first two altcoins I've seen that year was Litecoin and Dogecoin. I think this two would last even after so many years. I don't know if that's a good news because the potential of this coins are too low. Their value was almost the same since I started entering the cryptocurrency world.

Yeah. Ethereum, Litecoin, and Dash, have been performing well over the past years both in price and active development. However, that is not the case with Dogecoin, as it lacks innovation, and it has a huge supply, making it a very inexpensive coin. With this in mind, it will make it very difficult for Dogecoin to reach $1, unless it makes a comeback in development and popularity to relieve its glory days. I'm sure that at some point in the future, someone will become interested into helping Dogecoin evolve and stay ahead of other cryptocurrencies with better features. Nevertheless, you can always make sure to invest into the most prominent coins in user acceptance and market cap, as they will most likely rise in value over the course of time. Just my opinion

it depends on what you call surviving! being around and being traded, or mostly pump and dumped is not really surviving in my opinion but if that is the definition you have in mind then there will be lots of the altcoins that can survive.
but as a real project with something to offer and being developed, and hopefully contribute to the cryptocurrency world at least or at best become a currency; that is a whole different story and in my opinion none of the altcoins fall under this strict definition. but you can call some of them like litecoin and monero as coins that have many of these aspects and can survive.
Most of altcoin has the capability to survive in the market when people usually used it on trading or the platform of trading where they used it on transaction because the development of each crypto-currecny much depends on the support of the people behind every project of alternative coin where it mush be supported by both the developers and the users. And if you are going to seek for altcoin it much better to support new project on ICO where you can apply on a signature campaign and support it.

I've started in the cryptocurrency world 4 years ago, since I started I've know this three oldies but goodies coin and until know they're still in the market. A lot of new altcoins keep appearing each month, the market competition for those new coin is too tight so the possibility of them surviving in the long run is too low.

On past days I have talked about LTC, ETH, XMR. But I want to add some more names . It is Gamecredits, Mobilego, Waves, IOTA. Waves is getting attention. Significant improvements are seen in that platform. once smart contract will start action efficiently, we will see great total marketcap for waves. MGO/GC will survive. Cause 1/3rd mobile users are gamers. Tournament, solo mode gaming with wagering and in store purchase wagering are the awesome feature of MGO/ GC. Besides they are focusing on india and china. Large crypto markets are there

Only about a hand-full will have meaningful value and the number of coins will significant rise. If it is not backed by anything the long therm prospect is grim.

In my opinion, other than bitcoin and ethereum, the coins that will survive given the technology and purpose they are used for, I think Storj, Monero, Litecoin, NewEconomyMovement, Counter Party, Ripple, DigiByte, Steem, Name Coin, BitBay, IOTA, Waves, Dash and Augur will be around and definitely will make their presence feel.
From the coins that I've mentioned, which of them you think have a solid use case and technology that will be around in next few years?
