This is for a personal writing project I'm working on. I imagine that Bitcoin would be good for things like teaching things like math with decimals ("How many Satoshis do you need to get a tenth of a Bitcoin?", stuff like that), budgeting (Spend it on whatever you want, but when it's gone, it's gone), or even a little bit of IT / programming stuff like how cryptography works. What do you guys think of this?

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

the goal in class is to teach something. if it is math, then you should teach math. if i count with apples or satoshis is not important, but the focus should be on learning math not on learning bitcoin.

That makes sense, but you'd be surprised by how literal kids can be when they're trying to learn decimals. That apple isn't one tenth of anything other than a box of ten apples. It's one apple. You don't necessarily have to explain much more about Bitcoin than what a Satoshi is, and maybe how to obtain some Bitcoin, for our purposes.

I doubt we will ever get there honestly even If bitcoin becomes known and used everywhere (speaking about math) but when It comes to IT/programming and how cryptography works then Its definitely that should be used and I guess there are already some courses in Coursera that does that , In fact I don't see better examples then bitcoin.

Could be it's will be an additional lessons, especially in economic sector. Well bitcoin have an elements between economic, crypto(include math+IT science) and development. It will be long lessons I think, but not sure all students will interested, could be some geeks.
For answering the title, I say yes.

there is one more thing i would consider. if you teach it in class, then i would not be surprised if some parents wouldn't be to happy about it and complain. So i would make sure that i would not get into trouble because of this.

Maybe Bitcoin could be included in some subject that teaches about finances, so not as a separate one. This would be maybe better if there are some parents who would object if too much attention would be given only to Bitcoin. But to my opinion young people should be introduced to Bitcoin as a part of their general knowledge and financial culture.

I doubt education will ever incorporate bitcoin in such a way, they will use the government coin to teach kids about that sort of thing.

The only way we are going to see bitcoin in education is throught more advanced courses in college, probably additional subjects related to computer science, but we aren't going to see it in regular subjects and sub-college education in my book.

Yes, but probably not on kids to which you're trying to teach decimals... I'd say Bitcoin in the classroom starting with 16+ year old kids, in these ages they start having a better perception regarding money and they're still in a good age to demystify money and to alter the definition of money they have. Basically a good age for them to question why do they value printed pieces of paper saying they're worth X $ ou € or whatever.

I totally agree with you but it should be taught only as a single course to fresher year students at the university/college so they might develop interest in researching further through their studies.

Crypto currencies will definitely become part of the teaching syllabus in the future, because it will become a new form of payment method or

even a currency, if enough people start using it. { Some people's definition of a currency says that it will only be a currency, if it is backed by

the government. } Crypto currencies has become part of the FinTech industry now.  Roll Eyes

If you're teaching a class about Bitcoin, then you might as well go ahead and teach people about it otherwise it is a useless class.

For anything else, unless it is economics-related, it's not beneficial for students imo, as it doesn't serve a purpose beyond a neat portion of it all.

It's an ok idea, but it has limits and it's useful all the time.

I think it would be a good thing when we would teach with and about bitcoin in the classrooms.

But it will be a long way until this happen imo.
First bitcoin must reach the "normal" people before we can thing about this step.

Yes and No.

I don't think bitcoin should be involved in teaching the following:
  • Basic math; conversions, decimals, etc.
  • Basic personal finance; budgeting, etc.
Bitcoin's low adoption and complicated creation allows people to believe it's "make believe" or a "fad". Yet the concepts above are very much needed for everyone to succeed in society. These topics need to be taken seriously  and therefore should be discussed in terms of the student's local fiat currency (which is very real).

Older students would benefit from bitcoin involvement in teaching the following:
  • Economic systems and how they can be created if a group of people are willing to particpate
  • Computer science

that's good idea. as long as the stuff consist of school subject like math, IT, and economy, it is good to be taught to the students. and I think it will be better to teach this stuff to students of senior high school and university. because in their ages, they have critical thinking.

I would definitely like that to happen, especially if the students are taking an economics course.

In my opinion bitcoin, or at least blockchain technology will be mainstream in the near future and the students will only benefit from learning how it works and what it is, and they will probably become bitcoin lovers as well.

Spreading the word about bitcoin is always good Smiley

introducing bitcoin to the kids is a great thing, but teaching math combine with bitcoin is going to confused the kids, but you can introduced bitcoin in economic for new payment, digital currency and the useful thing that can be used with bitcoin and how bitcoin impact someone life.
Teaching new generation about bitcoin is a good, because who knows one day they can develop bitcoin further

to teach bitcoins or to use bitcoins in teaching
one has to introduce several notions such as:blockchain, mint, decentralised money etc. etc.
think it can be used for things like IT or programming or cryptography but not math(or any basic stuff for kids)
simply because you cannot teach simple things using more complicated as a basis
