Not that soon. People like the convenience Paypal offers them when paying stuff. Almost everybody has credit cards, which makes it simple to buy products online. BTC isn't all trustworthy for the regular people, and that's why its going to take some time before we become mainstream.
And PayPal has a very good reputation with the years they operated. But for some they are destroyed and not that fair with the sellers and buyers because of their policy. But I doubt it bitcoin will overcome PayPal soon, maybe after a decade possible that people will be enlighten with bitcoin. I personally have no idea either paypal has good reputation or not but i only know that paypal is not available everywhere. it service is limited to certain area, i have no facility to use paypal and therefore my first choice is bitcoin which s a universal currency and is available everywhere. They are the number one choice of employers and employee(freelancers) and it's the number one requirement if you are working in the freelancing industry. I don't know if there's country restriction about PayPal. In what country do you live? I just hate the big charge of PayPal but bitcoin now is having high fees but still I'll stick with it.

For me I think it has already overcome PayPal in terms of trading volumes and even coverage. Bitcoin can be sent to any part of the world with internet access but PayPal is not available in every country and so cannot be accessed by all.
Is paypal listed in any exchanges,i am not familiar with the stock exchanges outside of my country, since both are mode of transaction they are entirely different,i think you can access paypal if you have an internet connection and a paypal account. check that out since i used to use it before bitcoin.

No,The fact that it is not legal to the goverment.Paypal has been given a right to operate because of it is safe for transactions.Bitcoin cannot overcome paypal from now because some countries still not accept it and it is still illegal to their country.Unlike bitcoin, paypal was already accepted by many countries for transactions.

You got the point bitcoin be still good as alternative payment and paypal are almost their main payment methods in many business.. But the benefits of bitcoin that we are getting are the price increase and we are making profit just for holding bitcoins for a long time.. unlike paypal.. but the benefits that we can get in paypal more secured and you can reverse the payment once you've scam by someone..

The increase in the popularity and worth of the bitcoins seems that it can happen. But to make it possible bitcoins need to gain more popularity worldwide. Hope so it will come true.

He is obviously referring to PayPal's transaction volume in terms of $$. Bitcoin has not yet surpassed PayPal in that aspect, but we're not very far away from that. Currently PayPal's transaction volume per 24 hours sits at around $1.1 billion per day. Bitcoin's transaction volume sits on $820 million today. However, PayPal's transaction volumes are fairly consistent, which cannot be said about Bitcoin's transaction volume. i think you can access paypal if you have an internet connection and a paypal account. check that out since i used to use it before bitcoin. I think you should put more effort into understanding someone before posting. In this case the poster you quoted was referring to countries that blocked PayPal, which means that you can't legally use PayPal there....

Lols, how has bitcoin overcome paypal in terms of trading volume? Do you trade paypals? Or penpals? The amount of lilidots... on this forum is amazing What's the point of sending bitcoins to somebody in the middle of the Atacama desert?Or in Allepo? It's no point saying you can use bitcoin worldwide when you can't buy a damn thing with bitcoins in a 100km radius and you have to exchange them to fiat. Paypal is a service, bitcoin is a currency. For the 1000th time there is nothing stopping paypal to adopt bitcoin payments.

I don't understand the comparison between the 2 methods. Paypal is more of a competitor to the many credit cards companies out there. Bitcoin is a coin. You can pay using it and it is not a way to transfer money but the money itself.

That's what I think. Paypal and bitcoin have differences. Paypal is the way how someone sends money. And bitcoins are currencies that are instantly sent to others in the absence of third-party services. Bitcoin can be used as an investment while paypal can not.

Do you think that sometime in the future, Bitcoin might overcome Paypal, as it scales in capacity and userbase over the years? We already have the ability to create our own marketplace with OpenBazaar, that uses Bitcoin as its payment method, so it should be no surprise that the combination of these two may be a fierce competition for both eBay and Paypal. Nevertheless, feel free to vote on the poll above and express your opinion about it, if desired. Indeed, its true that bitcoin overcome paypal already. Because of the volatility of bitcoin, and usages together with the features such as decentralization, its been a miles away if we are going to check their differences. So I've voted yes bitcoin overcome Paypal.

I think bitcoin has a great chance for bitcoin to overcome paypal but I do not think it is going to be soon, I think it is going to take at least 10 to 20 years for bitcoin to be able to rival paypal and ebay, but for that we need a solution to the slow confirmation time.
Completely agree with you, mate. While it's quite disappointing to experience slow confirmation times within the Bitcoin network, there is hope that someday not far in the future, Bitcoin would scale becoming closer towards rivaling PayPal or other payment processors. We need to give it more time, for it to become fully mature and handle any kind of load while preserving decentralization. It's not going to be easy, but I'm confident that Bitcoin will improve and survive for many years to come. In the meantime, we could just enjoy Bitcoin's uptrend in price by holding our coins for the long term, while using other altcoins to handle our daily transactions. Both Bitcoin and Litecoin make a great combination. One would serve as a store of value, while the other would serve more as digital cash. Just my thoughts.

Bitcoin was created to be the gold of the internet. So I don't think that overcoming PayPal is the main purpose of it, but I don't deny that it is something that can happen as a consequence of Bitcoin's success.

I think it can and perhaps, this is because the user bitcoin continues to increase and paypal users continued to decline. When Japan and South korea officially legalize bitcoin, then I'm more optimistic with the future of the bitcoin.

Yes. There is a bigger chance since market of crypto currency is cureently competing with fiat currency. And as what we can see, paypal's volume users is quite bigger than bitcoin users however as time goes by, volume in paypal would decrease and the volum of bitcoin users would increase.

Agree. While nowadays Bitcoin is nowhere near PayPal, I'm confident that it will become a better rival against it once it improves in a couple of years from now. It's user base is rising for sure, but one thing that truly limits Bitcoin to reach a wider audience is its scalability issues. Lacking consensus as a result of miner's greed, will make Bitcoin fail as other altcoins take the lead with better features and most of all, higher transaction capacity than the former. Despite the facts, Bitcoin is becoming more valuable and recognized in the mainstream world each day. It would be interesting if it becomes legalized in every country from around the world. Nevertheless, if Bitcoin stays as is, it will remain as digital gold, while another altcoin would be suitable to handle daily transactions and become a better rival against traditional payment processors. Just my thoughts.

My pick would be yes, but PayPal and bitcoin are so different that it would be hard to even compare both of them, BTC is transparent and we can calculate the overall TX's unlike PayPal, also PayPal records every customer, while every wallet might be owned by a different person or the same person hence it's almost impossible to calculate the actual number of users to BTC..

Maybe, Bitcoin is becoming better and better and its price is increasing rapidly so that everyone will use it. And what happens when everyone uses Bitcoin? Of course it will overcome Paypal.

Paypal cannot be overcome by bitcoins because of the simple reason that 90% of the online e-commerce sites accept paypal as a payment method and hence that plays a vital role. Though a person who knows btc and paypal both would always prefer dealing via bitcoins.

It will overcome Paypal not because everyone uses it but most of people use it. People all over the world, especially, people who do invest online find out that Bitcoin has a lot of benefits.
