Sure, bitcoin can conquer paypal. In bitcoin, payment is irreversible and so retailers would favor it.Transaction fees is also minimal in bitcoins.Transaction time taken is a lot more and it has to be solved.User foundation of bitcoin is low when compared to paypal and so consumer volume of bitcoin has to be elevated. Most of my pals have shifted to bitcoin payment leaving paypal.

Actually, people will continue to use PayPal with bitcoin till services like eBay, Amazon do not start to accept Bitcoin instead of PayPal.

For example, I had totally logged out of PayPal and thought that I'd never login again, but then today I had to pay for my SAT exam (collegeboard), and using PayPal was the only available option for me.
The problem is always positive and negative
PayPal has been so long with many people for a long time used to pay online, e-commerce, transnational remittance
BitCoin has many disadvantages of it, not feasible
BitCoin can not replace PayPal

Well every service like that can test bitcoin for a while, having it available as an option.

I really missed pay by bitcoin button on CollegeBoard website today though. Cry Really didn't want to login to PayPal again.

As users quoted, sure bitcoin has the potential to overcome PayPal. But several features as well ads promoting PayPal reach more users than the bitcoin. PayPal needs to be given complete identity, so this is something similar to a legalized service. This helps government in the taxation.
Bitcoin is still something very new. While paypal has been around for a long time. I do not think bitcoin will overcome PayPal.

I do agree bitcoin can easy overcome paypal, but if all countries does legalize bitcoin we will see paypal providing the exchange service the same way they do with others currencies, soo they will remain in the game. For sure some people will avoid paypal even with bitcoin exchange service since they charge a high fee if we consider moove big volumes, but in the end paypal remain strongs until the day merchant start to accept bitcoin and crypto payments.

I use PayPal less and less as I dislike their "barbarian" exchange rates that are sometimes very unfair to what I see at local banks rates ... not mention "big cuts" as payment fees when transfering money between countries. They simply charge too much.   Sad

In  my opinion Bitcoin simply already overcomed PayPal in simplicity, low fees, lack of excessive foreign exchange fees and providing some "anonymous" transactions, which is important for some of us.

PayPal is simply too expensive option today and I am simply surprised they are still giant company in online payments.

Do you think that sometime in the future, Bitcoin might overcome Paypal, as it scales in capacity and userbase over the years?

We already have the ability to create our own marketplace with OpenBazaar, that uses Bitcoin as its payment method, so it should be no surprise that the combination of these two may be a fierce competition for both eBay and Paypal.

Nevertheless, feel free to vote on the poll above and express your opinion about it, if desired.  Grin

Hey ... Cheesy
Well it depends, I am not sure if it will be the case because bitcoins keeps on fluctuating and yes am fully aware that normal currency keeps on fluctuating too but the intensity of fluctuation in case of bitcoins is more,
Where as pay pal uses normal fiat as its balance thus its completely irrelevant to talk about fluctuations there.

If Bitcoins are able to stabilize and.. their value is  predictable then the community won't mind accepting value of any commodity in the form of bitcoins also bitcoins needs to provide people with certain offers to attract a large number of population at once.

But you know expecting bitcoins to become stable is like killing the whole reason that they are very popular.

I believe there is a strong possibility of Paypal ending up adopting bitcoin in its own business. If it doesn't do this then it will probably become obsolete. Slowly, but surely, bitcoin will become the head honcho of peer to peer transactions.

I feel it has potential, and it hugely possible that this occurs in a near long term. BTC Aquiles' heel is how to buy it. Right after that is a method a lot less costly and less complicated to use than Paypal. BTC ATM's only aids to cash out BTC, but not to purchase it. With mobile apps assisting to purchase it with no problem, it will overcome PayPal in no time.

It would be great to see a replacement to PayPal in the future and even better if it was bitcoin. It took a while for PayPal to become commonly used. I can remember people saying they didn't trust it. Now we don't think twice about using it.

This is possible but we are not going to see it years or maybe 10 years from now. The reason for that is because bitcoin is highly volatile and no one would want to buy or pay for things not on a fixed price. For example if a merchandise cost a dollar then you buy it with bitcoin but then suddenly bitcoin's price dipped so that's okay for the consumer since the price is lower but then for the entrepreneur it is a different story. So because of this they would still use paypal for buying or selling this because now, bitcoin is more of an investment that the pure currency. But once bitcoin stabilize we will see it overtake paypal.

I wish something would "overcome" PayPal. How they can get away with 6 month confirmation times, and call themselves "new Money" is beyond me.

To answer the OP - Will oranges replace sausages? They are totally different things, as are Bitcoin and PayPal.

LOL, oranges vs sausages, bitcoin will be competitors to paypal. When most merchants accept bitcoin as the payment method. Now , Most internet users still buy stuffs in stores using paypal. It is normal because paypal has been used before bitcoin born. After bitcoin born , the users make a new community that can accept bitcoin, The community is growing now. The problem is govt and banks regulation, If both legalize bitcoin , the growth of the bitcoin community will boom.

This may happen in the future and I do not deny this, but it is hard to pass paypal as it has a more stable and popular value than btc.

I also expect that btc will replace PayPal in the future because many services only accept Paypal while I use BTC which is a limitation that I want BTC to change it.

Bitcoin is not competing with Paypal or Visa its competing with the US dollar. So in a sense the relationship between Bitcoin and Paypal is like the Trojan horse and Troy. If we get bitcoin inside paypal, then that will be a big blow to the US dollar.

You are right.  I agree with your speak. That's true if bitcoin and paypal can involve with each other then it will be big and more powerful.
As like neteller and skrill. So, only bitcoin can't overcome paypal, because paypal is the best payment gateway and its so old. Bitcoin will going very fast. as we see it future.

Who knows... bitcoin has great potential for that. we never know what will hapen in the future. but as far i know paypal can not be replaced because paypal is a big company and the best payment gateway. of course more popular than bitcoin, maybe it may take 10-20 years bitcoin will be popular than paypal
