this can sound a good way to pay instead of paypal, but on the other side of the coin, when you do a BTC transaction it's irreversible while with payPal you have a safety net and adding an escrow in the middle can help the process (but it will raise the price of the transaction); all in all would be a nice payment method but still, is not for "ignorant" people

That's why to buy things from someone online who you don't know then always use a Paypal and bitcoins are good for investment purpose.

I vote yes, bitcoin will become a global payment tool someday. Seen from the demand, bitcoin is growing rapidly this late.

this can sound a good way to pay instead of paypal, but on the other side of the coin, when you do a BTC transaction it's irreversible while with payPal you have a safety net and adding an escrow in the middle can help the process (but it will raise the price of the transaction); all in all would be a nice payment method but still, is not for "ignorant" people

But why would you choose to stay ignorant? You have a choice not to stay ignorant and it only costs you a couple of hours to educate yourself about the common attacks and scams that are done on the Internet. Chances are, if the scammer is going to scam you a couple of dollars, he's just going to use one of those basic attacks. Better scammers know their worth and so they scam larger amount of money. Adding an escrow in a Paypal transaction doesn't really solve the problem because the escrow can be an accomplice. The scammer can also still file a dispute request as long as 180 days hasn't passed yet.

Bitcoin transactions are irreversible and so you have to pick who you are going to deal with. There are things that you can do. In this place, a high ranked member will not scam for a couple of dollars so you have that little assurance. There's also a trust system here so you can choose to only deal with people that have positive feedback especially from the DT members (Default Trust).

interesting question and it certainly is one of every bitcoin user's hopes to see this happen. but it needs more time because we need more transaction per second capability and also we need lots more adoption so that there is someplace to spend bitcoin on. first people have to start adopting bitcoin then they have to start asking/forcing merchants to accept bitcoin and in time i believe it can replace Paypal completely.

It will happen soon enough, its complicated to start a paypal account in the first place and its a hassle using paypal. People find it hard to use specially those who are not that techie and do not have a debit nor credit card. I could say its too limited and fail to adapt that the fast changing online market that is why its starting to get outdated.
Especial, if you send or receive a huge amount of money with Paypal but the source of that amount or your account is not clearly, you can get limit 180 days from Paypal and can not send your money till ended this limits. One of bad security function makes me hate Paypal.

Time off to sleep ... ( ̄︶ ̄)~

Bitcoin is different to Paypal. Paypal deals with currencies whilst bitcoin is a currency. I think paypal could implement bitcoin into their service once the price settles down.

Bitcoin differs basically with paypal. But in use, bitcoin simpler than paypal. Because btc doesn't require verification.

Anyone noticed the market cap of bitcoin vs paypal? bitcoin mcap is higher than paypal lol.

You can buy everything with bitcoin, even from aliexpress, of course they don't support it officially, but you can use VCC funded by BTC. i don't use paypal for any transaction, because i have bitcoins. Wink

I feel it has potential, and it hugely possible that this happens in a close to potential. BTC Aquiles' heel is how to get it. Right after that is a program much cheaper and less difficult to use than Paypal. BTC ATM's only assists to funds out BTC, but not to get it. With cell apps supporting to acquire it with no problem, it will get over PayPal in no time.

Bitcoin is not competing with Paypal or Visa its competing with the US dollar. So in a sense the relationship between Bitcoin and Paypal is like the Trojan horse and Troy. If we get bitcoin inside paypal, then that will be a big blow to the US dollar.

This is exactly right! PayPal and Bitcoin can actually be the beginning of a beautiful friendship if PayPal starts offering/accepting Bitcoin as one of the methods of payment (both in and out). Even though that number will fluctuate constantly due to the volatility factor, people who choose to use it instead of USD (for instance) know that going in.

The user base of bitcoin must be enough, no doubt. But the speed of the transfer may not reach the current level of paypal. In addition, the price fluctuation of bitcoin is far more than that of most relatively stable countries. So, for now at least two years, bitcoin is supposed to be an investment, but bitcoin has a lot of potential, and it's likely to be one of the world's common currencies in a decade.

Bitcoin and paypal both are technically different as well as structurally. Bitcoin is currency itself whereas paypal is just a wallet to fecilitate payment. It doesn't have its own value in the market. So bitcoin and paypal can't be compared with each other.

However, if you talk about popularity between these two, I think paypal is far more known name than bitcoin. However, bitcoin has its distinct properties and worldwide reach without the legal burdens like paypal. So my feeling is that, bitcoin will eventually beat paypal in its good time in terms of user acceptability while paypal will remain one of the best exchange facilitator.

This may happen in the future if bitcoin continues to improve service and improve features that are in bitcoin. As happened to Yahoo being eliminated due to the arrival of Google.

Do you think that sometime in the future, Bitcoin might overcome Paypal, as it scales in capacity and userbase over the years?

We already have the ability to create our own marketplace with OpenBazaar, that uses Bitcoin as its payment method, so it should be no surprise that the combination of these two may be a fierce competition for both eBay and Paypal.

Nevertheless, feel free to vote on the poll above and express your opinion about it, if desired.  Grin
Paypal will actually be a gateway through which you could complete your transactions so no overcomming.
