I vaguely remember some regulars here talking about using Ring cams, thought you might find this 'interesting':

Amazon has revealed that it gives police videos from its Ring doorbells without a warrant and without user consent.

    Ring recently revealed how often the answer to that question has been yes. The Amazon company responded to an inquiry from US Senator Ed Markey (D-Mass.), confirming that there have been 11 cases in 2022 where Ring complied with police “emergency” requests.

-> https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2022/07/amazon-finally-admits-giving-cops-ring-doorbell-data-without-user-consent/
-> https://www.markey.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/amazon_response_to_senator_markey-july_13_2022.pdf

Also, if you (like me) refuse to wear a tracking device (vulgo: 'Smartphone'), make sure you understand to what extent your car is snooping on you and tracking your every move:

TheMarkup has an extensive analysis of connected vehicle data and the companies that are collecting it.

    The Markup has identified 37 companies that are part of the rapidly growing connected vehicle data industry that seeks to monetize such data in an environment with few regulations governing its sale or use.

    While many of these companies stress they are using aggregated or anonymized data, the unique nature of location and movement data increases the potential for violations of user privacy.

I am confident about 2023 looking at the current movements of Bitcoin think we could see a bull run again.

I need to think about converting back to a non smart phone. Once you have experienced smartphones it is hard to go back though especially because most phone manufactures only do smart phones today. What phone would you recommend that has a good camera and does not rely on Google, Apple or Microsoft?

I haven't found one yet with a decent camera. I use the Punkt as it offers me connectivity via WiFi or BT to my other devices like notebook but it has no cam. So far I use small dedicated cam with USB only (no WiFi) like the Sony DSC-W810B or the Canon Ixus 185.
Unfortunately convenience and OpSec are always indirectly proportional.

Not a problem if you drive a 1992 Volvo 940.

My words, but at some time these vintage cars (including my 2001 Opel Caravan) will be EOL and I fear the day I have to buy one of these rolling fondleslabs.

Wrt to 'intelligent', self-driving cars, today a autonomous BMW iX caused an accident with 1 dead, 9 heavily injured in Germany. Though it is not clear yet if the vehicle was driving autonomous or was controlled by a human.

Indeed the best explanation of Bitcoin you will ever hear - by Peter Van Valkenburgh, it old ~4 years, but still the best

https://twitter.com/TansuYegen/status/1559175031124631553

Some oral testimony from the beginning:

What is Bitcoin? Bitcoin is the world’s first cryptocurrency and it works because of the world’s first public blockchain network.

What does Bitcoin do? It’s easy. It lets you send and receive "value" to and from anyone in the world.

Why is it revolutionary? Because unlike every other tool for sending value over the internet, it works without the need to trust a middle-man.
The lack of any corporation in between means that bitcoin is the world’s first public digital payments infrastructure. And by public I simply mean open to all and not owned by any single entity.

"Public digital payments infrastructure", I never heard this term before from any one else, brilliantly explained worth watching if you haven't before. You won't regret your 6 minutes.

If you want to see on the Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzxKs-Jd0H4

Not a problem, due to the age of the car the radio isn't DAB capable, so it will be bricked by 2024 latest.
I don't need anymore voices while I drive anyway, the missus seems completely sufficient as onboard entertainment system.

Linux gives you better understanding of the underlying hardware, which is not possible with other OS. In linux, you have to deal with so many things through related to OS and hardware through command line.
Though new distributions are quite user friendly like Ubuntu and fedora. I remember back in 2007, we need to mount USB in Linux first from command line in order to operate it.
I prefer Linux for installing my wallet just because of the level of security it adds which other OS are missing.

As if it is something worse than what happened in the so-called civilized countries of the world in the past 2 years - or what will happen again when the summer ends. To me, such things are not at all strange in China, which is a communist country where the government decides and the citizens listen - but when it happens in countries that have guaranteed human rights that are erased overnight, then it is really strange.
