Bitcoin’s longest-serving Lead Maintainer calls it quits, names no successor


Bitcoin’s top developer and Lead Maintainer, Wladimir van der Laan, has confirmed that he’s retiring.
Van der Laan is the second successor to Satoshi Nakamoto and is one of the few people in the world with final commit access to Bitcoin Core’s GitHub.

Nakamoto held this administrative key, which was passed to Gavin Andresen, and then to van der Laan.
Van der Laan took the reins eight years ago when Andresen, who learned how to maintain Bitcoin’s code directly from Nakamoto, stopped working on the project.

Van der Laan has maintained Bitcoin’s repository for even longer than Nakamoto but indicated in January last year that he planned to start phasing out his involvement.


"From he's point the major reason for quitting his role is he wants Bitcoin to be more decentralized in such away that it no longer needs an official lead maintainer to thrive" (Moving away from relying on GitHub  to send a code).

To me, such things are not at all strange in China, which is a communist country where the government decides and the citizens listen - but when it happens in countries that have guaranteed human rights that are erased overnight, then it is really strange.

According to me, the most important reason for this was the fear that was spread globally through the media. Conspiracy theorists took advantage of this coercion and propagated it well and spread fake news, which different countries, especially developing countries, faced such a situation. People were more afraid of the hospital than Corona and they considered Corona to be just a lie. If the governments had given awareness instead of spreading fear from the beginning, maybe this would never have happened.

Legacy markets are mixed this morning with earnings coming in for several retail giants this week. Walmart leading the pack with higher than expected returns this quarter setting the trend. Gold, Silver and Oil all shedding gainz today with the Pound and Euro up slightly in early morning trading.

This next thing is just a joke to me, considering I lived in Scotland where crime and drugs are still rife (only place in the UK I've ever been randomly attacked by the way for no reason) and it appears to be turning into some bizarre social experiment in wokeness:

But does a government need to make money out of this sort of situation (if it really exists - we'd have to look beyond the media to make sure!)? It sounds leeching and opportunistic if anything that jobs are created for this!

My wife tells me sanitary pads are 8 cents each in Walmart $3.82 for 4 dozen. Im sure its same over in Scotland.
Its more a case of people have had their self reliance, resilience and self respect stolen from them by issuance of never ending welfare so that government has more control over individuals to the point some folk need their own asses wiping for them now.

What really bugs me about the whole tawdry affair is the playing down of the fact that it's the taxpayers' money.

Last year when the Ontario government was pushing covid vaccinations they ran commercials saying the shots were paid for by the government of Ontario.

WTF? Do you think the politicians and civil servants go into their personal bank accounts to pay for this? Not a chance.

The money comes from the middle/working classes. The rich have ways to avoid taxes and the poor simply take. It's the rest of us who pay.

Investment experiences of common people have never been good as almost the majority consider forex or the stock market as a scam In which only common people's investment is taken away from them, but one thing that gives them confidence is its legality, While no one has control over Bitcoin, it awakens their fear that the media has already instilled in them, of losing their investment or being arrested for illegal trading and manipulation, etc.

The unwarranted propaganda of the media has changed the psyche of the people to feel more content to be controlled than free because of the guarantee given by the media or the government even if it is false.
