I like the Wo.
Proud member since 2018.
First post and got bullied (of course), but stayed because I did recognise the incredible value here.
I like Buddy Streaks and the buddy stopping posts.
I like the Haikus and corn observing.
I like the lateral humor of this thread.
I like the strange things (no, not the d*ck pics) posted here.
Please, keep the politics out of here.
Who am I to disagree with your posts, but this is a clean space.

My reply was two sided, i admit.
One side was pointing out fake news, and yes those were posted in a political context or even aligned along a political agenda.
The other side was my MAGA rant, which was a bit political by nature, too.
I can only blame my lack of impulse control, but i want to assure you, your plea for keeping politics out of WO was heard.
Not that i remember that i have ever started a political discussion around here, so maybe i did a few in all those years, but i'm really weak in not reacting to topics that trigger me.
It's mostly about truth, humanity, common sense or emotional stuff that triggers me strong and fast enough to reply.
I also wish i could resist more.

Can we even discuss anything today (including Bitcoin) without touching on politics? I honestly don't mind such posts, because through these posts I can get another side of the story told by real people, and not just the one that will be served to us by the mainstream media.

No matter how you look at it, politics has always been a part of WO, but always (at least that's what it seems to me) in moderate doses and when something of global importance happens.

Ofc not demanding, just politely asking  Grin

Haiku summary
at sundays, makes this place home
missing it alot.

Not gonna rant much
but not your keys not your coins
say no no to ETFs

^ I guess a healthy bit of bullying should still be fine as long as its non-political or remotely bitcoin related, right?

Was out and about,
So I was a little late.
Here you go, WOers!

Not gonna rant much.
If ETFs are Bitcoin,
Then who's got the keys?

The Ignore button.
That's the cure for your sickness.
Why don't you use it?

Open-source goodness.
Syncthing, FreeFileSync, Bitcoin.
Fresh figs are good, too!

From 200 yards,
At 3 times the speed of sound.
He didn't stand a chance!

Right versus left-wing.
They're being played like bagpipes.
Divide and conquer!

Still two weeks to go.
Save your seeds (and passphrases).
ATH this month!

So corn be spreading

Sideways more often than up

Covering us in corn

I would not dislike
Field after field of corn and
Watching it grow tall

#Bitcoin vs gold performance over the last 10 years

Gold: 226%
BTC: 48,927%

source: x

The chart shows how much the price of Bitcoin and gold has increased in the last ten years. This clearly shows that Bitcoin has increased by twice as much as gold. This chart proves once again that with patient, long-term much investment, more profits can be expected from Bitcoin than from gold in the future.

Try gold nov 2021 to now

Vs

Btc Nov 2021 to now

Gold did 1750-1825  and is now 3660 pretty much 2x

Btc was 69k and in now 115k pretty much 1.6667

So rather than going backwards to compare make a 4 year future guess.

Over next 4 years who wins.

My guess is btc
I think this comparison is very useful to know so i don't argue without real calculation.

From November 2021 till today, 12th September 2025, Gold has about  101.40% growth in price.

From November 2021 till today 12th September 2025, BTC has about 103.30% growth in price.

BTC still wins even in the future.

btc was 61k to 69k in nov 2021

btc is 115.9 k as I type.

so your math is wrong.as 115.9/69 = 1.679 which is a 67.9% gain

and if you pick 115.9/61=1.9  a 90% gain.

so correct your error.

the reality is any day of nov 2021 gold beats BTC gains

when using todays prices.

and while we are at it.  btc was 10,000 for 2 pizzas which is under 1 cent a btc.

so why not compare from that day.

Back to what counts what does btc do vs gold for the next 4 years.

does it lose
or does it win.

Bitcoin's value is not solely reflected by its price change in 4 years.

BTC has utility gold hasn't, like portability, absolute ownership (you can take BTC with you when you die) etc

That utility is the reason you don't mine gold but Bitcoin for your income...

Partially OT:

Gemini exchange ipo-ed last week (GEMI) with $3.8 bil valuation. I have an account, but rarely trade there.
Long term, I don't see how it can prosper considering their relatively small volumes.

Their loss was around $300mil last Q and with just $425mil raised in the IPO, so the math is against them.
The best scenario would be for them to quickly merge, maybe with a bank that want some exposure to this sector, or declare themselves a "treasury company".
It would not be easy.

Twins were tense during Fox business interview (https://www.foxbusiness.com/media/gemini-co-founders-tout-golden-age-innovation-amid-trumps-pro-crypto-policies).
Also, for some reason they called the company "Gemini space station" and when prodded by the interviewer (L. Claman), said that it is because "crypto is money for space and Mars; it's multi-planetary money", which sounded a bit wacky for right now.

That's an interesting property of Bitcoin, that I never really thought about. It's true, you can die and take the keys with you, which is equivalent to making a donation to the Bitcoin community, equally distributed among all BTC holders. Nice!

I am actually actively thinking about it. Some people want to give it to their progeny, but I have serious doubts that mine would be able to do anything positive with it.
I will be making a first test: giving a fraction to one of my sons and then observe what he will do with it. Age-wise, it seems timely.
I already asked in the hypothetical and the answer was encouraging, but the real "practice' would show.

Yep, these sound like my struggles, too. Only one child of mine knows that i hold Bitcoin (not how many), but only asked on a few occasions about the price.
My other children don't even know about me being a Bitcoiner.
For me, i found out that it's not that important what they might do with the corn in the end, as long as it's not some evil shit or about the wrong type of drug(s).
I will try to teach them how to handle the corn to maintain a good life and still having enough reserves to reach those extra goals, but i will also tell them that it always feels better to do some work to achieve something, not to only "buy it".
(EDIT: Which could be quite a challenge, with all that ADHD in my family, that makes them gravitate towards impulse-purchases a lot...)

What i also thought about was transferring the corn to a notary as a custodian, who could release parts of the treasure to my children for a defined range of purposes, following a set of rules i would define.
Most Notaries would be Crypto Bitcoin-aware within the next decade, i guess.
