Would you seriously recommend anything else for your sister, cousin, parents, grandparents?

You bet. Anything cheap that works. There's a big old choice.

.... Except it doesn't work. I can make it work, you can make it work. But the people who asks us... they need an Iphone.

I get the feeling that people without an Iphone are more hung up on its role as a status symbol than those who own one.

I think it's more down to the bizarro smugness of their owners than their desirability. There are plenty of other phones that cost just as much.

Have you ever met someone (and I don't mean online) who owns an iPhone?
All I ever hear is people calling iPhone owners smug, but in my opinion it's the Android owners that are smug!  Grin

Yes. They were pleased with their choices and I applaud it. I didn't applaud spending ten minutes listening to them trying to convert me. I'm a neither person at the moment.

Which means you're supporting Darth Vader and The Evil Empire. People who bitch about apple now are either children or amnesiacs. It was reeeeaaally crappy when we were forced to deal with Microsoft products.

A friend of my wife bought a Nokia with Windows a while ago after I recommended Iphone. She changed to Iphone after six months. When I asked her about it she just answered: cheapskates pay twice. In fact, the Android phone I use now I got for free from someone who bought an Iphone after just 2 months. Come to think of it, I haven't bought a phone myself since Iphone arrived on the market.

The exact words that came to mind when i saw the TV ad for applepay were "ooohhhh fuck this'll kill bitcoin for sure" ... sorry folks but people in the billions will flock to that type of service as will all of the merchants ... it's just easier to use a phone based prepaid account using the phone you already have and the currency you already have than to bother fucking with all the ridiculous by comparison hassles of buying/storing/spending bitcoin ...

I'm sorry if it's complicated for you. Just to add another layer of complication: not everyone owns an Iphone. And its competitor PayPal is offering the option of filling up with Bitcoin.

The overwhelming majority of the world can't afford Apple or thinks those who advocate their products are nincompoops. It's a bit of fraying tinsel on a system that is not engaging with the world at large.

im a tech savvy genius level person and capable of using bitcoin (obviously) and it is so totally and completely obviously complicated *versus* a simple prepaid phone based payment app it's laughable ... and i recognize the fact that most people will choose the path of least resistance ... which is the latter of the options between bitcoin and applepay style service ... note *type of service* is what i said ... as in ... for example ... an app similar to applepay that works on all smartphones is what i see as a likely next step if apple refuses to put out their applepay app to all other platforms other than ios ... bonus points for the app that automatically converts your prepaid balance into whatever the local currency is via geo location ... also you do know apple sold like 100 million *new* iphones last Q right ? as in like 100X as many iphones sold as people who possess any amount of bitcoin ? thats in 1 Q and thats the brand shiny new expensive 6th gen ones ... that's not counting all the previous gen ones already out there ... at this point it's like what ? every 10th person on earth has an iphone ... everyone else is either living in the dark ages or has a different brand smartphone with a small minority of the developed world still using their shitty old cellphones ... even most poor people can afford a used smartphone for $30 ... apple or not smart phones are nearly ubiquitous and an applepay style app will be available to everyone ... come to think of it a used iphone is a lot cheaper than any device capable of receiving storing and transmitting bitcoin ... hmmm ...

The overwhelming majority of the world can't afford Apple or thinks those who advocate their products are nincompoops.

Count me among the latter group. I can easily afford any Apple product I want but I don't want their garbage hardware.

Every time I've tried to use an Apple product, it has been an extremely unpleasant experience.

My hackintoshed EeePC901 worked okay except for having to use crappy Apple applications, but my iPad Mini was a disaster.

I couldn't even reset it to factory condition without installing malware called iTunes on my PC, so I installed Win7 temporarily on a test rig so I wouldn't have to pollute one of my working systems. I also had to buy a proprietary USB cable ("Lightning") to accomplish this, or to even charge the battery.

Then I found out that I couldn't even transfer media files from my PC to the iPad using USB, nor could I install nor even download any applications (not even free ones) without creating an Apple account. I had no intention of relinquishing my anonymity to some sleazy company like Apple Corp.

At least with my Android mobile device, I can download APK files on my PC, transfer them through a standard USB cable to my Android device and install them anonymously without ever going near Google or "Playstore".

Sorry, but IMO you have to be a brainwashed, Koolade-drinking Apple cultist to buy one of their overpriced worthless products.

They just plain don't work.

Before and after:

Edit: BTW, my Android "phone" (Sony XperiaZ Ultra) has no SIM card which is why I refer to it as a mobile device. This preserves anonymity.

To send and receive audio messages (make phone calls) I use a military-grade Samsung Rugby with an officially anonymous SIM card whose true anonymity has been long compromised through use as a phone.

I also own several fully anonymous Alcatel and Nokia phones whose SIM cards were activated on an anonymous netbook through a disposable USB wifi adapter on a public hotspot. Paranoid? Nope, just careful.

(I did not read the whole fee algorithm yet.  I have been told that it depends also on the number of bytes of the transaction, on the third letter of the address, on phase of the Moon, on the temperature of blockchain, and on the number of handshakes that separate the owner from Satoshi Nakamoto.  I imagine that PayPal and VISA will want to adopt these rules too.)

Thanks for that chuckle  Cheesy
Now I'm wondering... How many handshakes am I separated from Satoshi?  Tongue

LOL, didn't know that.

So I have been talking about Nokia 8210s on a Bitcoin forum with my regular IP address and I live next to a prison. I probably should delete some porn before they come and get my computers.

truth surrounding money is often far from charming ... usually quite ugly.

Libertarian logic: lets talk down to people and insult them. That'll convince them for sure!

People refuting the suggestion that Apple Pay will negatively affect Bitcoin.

Needless to say, Apple enthusiasts and non-Apple people have radically differing opinions. It reminds me of the old pre-OSX days when Intel/AMD users called Motorola/IBM users Mactards, who in turn called Microsoft Windoze. Nobody called Linux users anything but geeks.  Cheesy
