Maybe a large short position was taken out around $950 in anticipation of sales that then got unexpectedly bought up by a raging bull market? Now a very large Chinese miner and fabricator is actually under water to the extent that they are very desperate for a much lower price for its business survival? Such a desperate actor will do anything, including threatening to fork bitcoin or otherwise nuclear options, since it is going bankrupt anyway.

Mind blown. Do you think this theory holds water? What signs would point to miners taking out big shorts?

Bitmain needed cash for their new data center they invested heavily last year. They sold customer bitcoins. Nothing unusual there. What is confusing is that PBoC came to rescue Chinese short sellers. If we break $1350 next stop will be >$10,000 bitcoin.

Confirmed.
Confirmation confirmed.

exactly..but if you HOLD both ....one wins one loses...you will have NO less then 100 coins that you started with ....either BTC or BTU as a winner...then again....the coins after

unless it's a lose-lose game.
If there is no bomb-proof protection from replay attacks (and there is not afaik) you could not move your coins on a chain without risking that they get moved on the other:

Are you feeling alright? Don't you think you'd really feel so much better if you changed the node you're operating?

Before I was listless at night and was incontinent. Once I transitioned men want to be me and women want to be with me. And I can empty my bladder where I want and when I want.

What is confusing is that PBoC came to rescue Chinese short sellers.

In what way were they "rescued"?

By blocking bitcoin withdrawals on customer accounts.

There is no fork. Is this the bottom? Cheesy
You are the worst. Just a baghodler who want other people getting burned so that you can cash out when they are getting rekt. Bitcoin needs a fork because they have to fix some serious scaling isues.

??

I do not need anyone to do anything. I've invested in bitcoin and I'm very happy that I did. Go ahead and sell your coins, I couldn't care less. Actually I hope that you leave bitcoin because you're a troll.

I'm confident that the scaling issues will be resolved without causing too much trouble. Some of the most intelligent people are working in the bitcoin space.
We need to scale first. The price building before that is just hot air.

Sold my stash many times. 2 times just before the PBOC dips. Also before the downmove at ATH. But i also made mistakes. I sold before ETF what was a good thing but i panic bought in the ETF pump because i tought it was an aproval sign. After that, well.. you know what happened. So i waited for some nice moment to get my coins back. BU fud dip will do. So i made some small profit again. After that i was waiting for a final c-down move. I was expecting that downmove today or yesterday because of PBOC announcements and BU. But bitcoin rekt both of them today. BU got rekt again and FUD is fading away. PBOC isnt really doing anything so I expect that we will finally continue to move on.  I sold my stash yesterday what was a good move but btc recovered fast so i didnt get any profit out of it. Thats a bullish signal for me. So i am quite sure that BU is not even capable of making their own Rogercoin.  Roll Eyes

Imo it won't gain much more traction as it had.
BU's code if full of bugs and the devs seem to be far from being competent!
But to scare the market it was a really useful toy I have to admit. Some people really shit their pants and sold huge parts of their stack and now act extremely desperate to get in again.

Yes, and it did scare the market... and is not ready for real world adoption. I don't think it will go further than it has, despite the bug fixes and so on. BU may have missed its mark" what ever confidence some had in it has eroded. But its still out there as an option.

I think it's a little like 9/11. It's the type of spectacular you can only pull off once before the whole world adjusts its behaviour and locks out the possibility of it ever happening again.

It has forced almost everyone who's anyone in this space to clarify how they would treat it in this scenario and it's not looking too promising for any type of contentious fork now.

The way forward for fork fans is to come up with something that is 100% unassailably so much better in every way that it becomes irresistible to everyone. That could be a little tricky but no one got anywhere by aiming for the low hanging fruit.
