you can check here: https://www.xbt.eu/292 blocks before current lock-in period ends. Still 233 blocks needed for a lock-in.

So there are 80% backing BIP91 and 13.9% backing segwit. Why has it taken so long to reach agreement on Segwit if 94% of miners agree with it!
BIP91 could be locked in in 38 hours, exciting times!

I thought BitFury was on the bip 91 train. And anyone knows when f2pool actually start signaling bip 91? Someone said they were ddosed and that prevented them from changing clients. If we get them onboard this will certainly happen.
Also fingers crossed for slush too.

It seems that the danger of segwit-failure-fork is (almost) gone. However, there still remains the HF in 3 months, so the price won't go as far as we wish. Besides, Roger Ver and Jihan Wu still want to make use of the situation and fork their own altcoins. These 'inverstors' like to buy new coins and pump them with the help of their associates in Poloniex. They may have a general notion of blockchain but they are ignorant of the cryptography embedded in the white papers of the leading altcoins like ethereum and zcash. Unfortunately BU and/or ABC can emerge anytime and survive as forks even with their present hashrate. As always, the common bitcoin holders are at the mercy of the big whales. I would prefer a POW change that will make useless the asics and return the mining to the gpu's and cpu's. Btw the above mentioned altcoins have a code that prevents the asic technology to take advantage over gpu's, so the china dominion would be over for good. Then we will have a really decentralized bitcoin.

Is any POW algo ever truly ASIC proof?

Is any POW algo ever truly ASIC proof? I dont think so, i dont see POW change as a good option ( we would often need to change POW to another algorithm as ASICs come). Network hash is what secures bitcoin. Miner dominance must be resolved in some other way.

Network hash is what secures bitcoin. Miner dominance must be resolved in some other way. High RAM requirements wouldn't make the algo 100% ASIC proof, but they could make ASICS much, much less cost-effective. If every miner chip needs 8GB - the more the harder - a GPU installed in a normal desktop computer becomes seriously competitive. The extreme is Proof of Storage, where only memory really matters. It's possible to design a continuum of RAM vs processing power difficulties.

$2500+ today?
BIP91 is already over 80% and Bitfury, Slush and F2pool should start signaling soon. If all goes well, we will have Segwit locked-in by Friday morning.
P.S.: 110BTC sell wall at 2400 on Bitstamp

Prediction:
BIP91 will not lock in this time. It will lock in this weekend which will bring with it a weekend pump.
Price prediction: $500,000/BTC
In 3 years or I will watch John McAffee eat his own dick on TV.

That seems reasonable (the BIP91 prediction, not the mcafee issues), in Litecoin there was a near-miss on first activation period after the agreement. The price was going up and down all the time according to the signaling hasrate and the probability of lock-in... until the lock-in was a sure thing and there came the bigger pump. Then the positive news... more pump. In the case of Bitcoin, which has a wider news coverage, the positive news after lock-in could have an even bigger impact on price. If F2pool starts signaling soon within this activation period it will have many chances to be locked in early, before friday morning. But that Wangchun guy loves to troll so who knows.

I'm not worried about the hardfork. As you could see the last 2 weeks, the other side is completely incompetent in terms of coding! Core devs safed their asses 3 times, although they are not involved in that shieeet! Let Jihan, Bitpay and all the other corporations fork off. They will regret it pretty soon after the fork and will come crawling back. This corporate takeover attempt of the ecosystem and the brand Bitcoin will fail!!

The sooner this contradiction is resolved the better. The Chinese mining cartel and some other bitcoin entities defending 'corporate' bitcoin concept are maneuvering. They know they'll be the losers in case of a chain split. That is why they will try to change the odds in the next 3 months.

[...] FrankenSegwit isn't as great as you think. If it prevents a split on August the 1st, that will definitely be a good sign. However, we will experience the same problems again before their flag day HF.
A well supported hard fork (by hashrate) is preferable over a soft fork. It is just the stigma the terminology got. If we get a soft fork version of Segwit by the Segwit2x implementation, there will be two megabyte blocks shortly afterwards. The market already priced this in and considers it bullish now that the miners started signalling.

Yes to the decentralized bitcoin!People would love bitcoin so much more, If they knew, they could use BTC to Stick it to the man. I hope for another big dump on the weekend, didn't get any coins last weekend, FOMO i guess, specially seeing people write about dodgeing the fork. I need FUD
