^It's cool. We're not taking any poor people. Are you as concerned about the hundreds of thousands of miles of ocean front property that aren't cheap? Or just a tiny little floating island that will have no impact upon anyone else? Would you use force to allow poor people to live in ocean front properties? I'm saying, if all this is is just a fork of the current world real estate racket, I don't get the appeal. It is a prototype. The people actually making any decisions about its purpose will not be on Internet websites. They will be living on the seastead working to make it into something bigger. Something what? What's the vision?

And we get to deal with pirates. This should be fun.
Meantime 9,000? It's over 9,000?
Wow.

That seasteading thing will be an interesting experiment about micro self-ruling.
If people really intends it to live there (instead of just as an excuse for avoiding/reducing taxes elsewhere) it will probably show that most of the problems/fight will come from disagreements on local governance between its members than from any external entity.
I think just about any government system will work with a small amount of people that are there voluntarily and know what they're getting into. The key being the ease of leaving if you don't like it.

Pirates and waves. Most people that hear about it first usually bring up the waves too. 100 foot waves. And hurricanes.

Those are simple, tiny little governing problems. Wait till the real fun hits the micro-world, items that will pit brother against brother, mother against daughter, and tear the fabric of the community apart.... I am of course talking about PTA meetings. You thing geopolitics is complicated, wait till the first PTA meeting.... :-) C PS: Nine fucking thousand.

Except insofar as a loner in a hut on the top of a remote mountain matters.

No matter what their ideological or religeous convinctions are. The biggest organized group of armed people win. That's a state. You can't be free if you live at someone elses mercy, so unless the goal is to find a system that works on a large scale it's just an expensive hobby. Like boating, only a little bigger.

Just a few people living on houseboats. Nothing to concern yourself with. That's a shame. If there was a worthwhile vision you would not have anything against sharing it. On the contrary. Oh well.
