Something tells me I should have bought at 815 this morning...

my oversimplified analysis:
everybody expected a drop, so they were ready to buy in the dip.
ran out of patience, got trigger happy, rising the price.

basically the price does often the opposite of what people expect, something you have expressed alot here Smiley

The more "to the moon" yells here the more chance of a price drop
and we're waiting for a drop means it won't come when expected.

That is true.
I stopped acting on my expectations, which resulted in fewer losses.
Besides, there's almost no ask support down to 780...

Is it the fact that the price is >815 right now? Wink

Yes. If I knew the future, I should have bought at 815, sold at 865 and then waited for the dip.

And as everyone knows, clouded the future is, always shifting.

Here's what I'm pulling out of my ass: if the day ends with the 1D candle in green territory and if tomorrow we also get another green candle, then choo choo is more likely than trainwreck.

Nevertheless: every day that passes with btcusd over 800 makes this new price range generally accepted and hence a return to the 500's less likely. In which case I'd kinda feel sorry for rpietila because he has made some great contributions to the forum. While being happy for myself of course Cheesy

just gives strength to the market goes opposite of his theory, theory.

I fear the bubble that could occur following bail-in talks Wednesday. Besides that the Nation of India is catching on to Bitcoin the days are bright ahead.

There's only so many coins and they need to actually have them (or the cooperation of gox to be able to sell coins they don't have).
If all the major exchanges join a voting pool there's no way for them to sell coins they don't have without being immediately detected.

Great! Thanks +1

I know this is Off Topic, but just wanting to put out a feeler for 2 things:

1) Coders here who might be interested in being contacted for a future project related to help with BTC trading, please PM me.

2) Where would *you* post on this site to actually reach out to other good coders where they will see it?

This would be great, and a huge advantage to the network and for security of exchanges and customers alike.

But will the exchanges do this?

It may be they already sell BTC they don't have.   These exchanges are not run by paragons of virtue!

Getting BTC-e, Stamp and Gox all doing this looks tough - UNLESS they are more afraid of security issues than being found out for what they are (potentially) hiding from the market.  It is possible on balance this is the case.

It would be a leap forward if it worked - but it will take the will and a lot of work.

EDITED to remove thoughts on how they could sell coins they don't actually have - no need to freak everyone out!

Very interesting, thanks for the pointer

A voting pool is a way in which multiple Bitcoin websites can collaborate to accept customer deposits in a way that makes theft vastly more difficult. Members of a voting pool do not accept bitcoins directly - instead they give their customers deposit addresses which require a supermajority of the pool members to cooperate in order to spend (multisig addresses). After receiving a deposit, the member then issues the depositor a BTC-denominated receipt. When a customer decides to make a withdrawal, she returns this receipt back to the issuer, and the pool votes to process the appropriate blockchain transaction.

I should start a religion
we all gather together on sundays, I say a tone of existentialist BS, and then collect bitcoin donations   Cheesy

Yay! We can also do a sort of collective rain-dance to make price go up or down.
