I am sharing here an horror story, hopefully can be useful to someone. The Most Expensive Lesson Of My Life: Details of SIM port hackI lost north of $100,000 last Wednesday. It evaporated over a 24-hour time span in a “SIM port attack” that drained my Coinbase account. It has been four days since the incident and I’m gutted. I have zero appetite; my sleep is restless; I am awash in feelings of anxiety, remorse, and embarrassment. This was the single most expensive lesson of my life and I want to share my experience + lessons learned with as many people as possible. My goal is to increase awareness about these types of attacks and to motivate you to increase the security of your online identity.
The lesson is: 1) All code is garbage 2) Digital Rube Goldberg machines based on arbitrary garbage code are not money 3) Real money requires a hell of a lot more effort to steal since money is required to be a physical commodity Those lessons suck ass. You hate crypto we get it however Bitcoin is no garbage code. Real money is just an IOU on paper with no backing by gold so it is a LIE. Crypto can exist as physical commodity to in the form of a paper wallet. If you want to bitch about Bitcoin bitch about the fact that it is financial anarchy and kind of like the Wild Wild West. fillippone I feel your pain . Lucky for me I've not lost that much and have made good for the previous losses. Hope the losses were minor based on the money you invested. I lost some with an exchange crash or two. Bought some shitcoins in a pump and dump group and figured out I got screwed over. Got divorced, Etc. I think most crypto veterans have had there portion of rough water to swim through. The problem with crypto is that you have no way of getting your money back and security must be paramount. People try to optimize profit and do it without any form of risk management/mitigation. I have a great portion of my BTC in a cold wallet (as physical as you can get it). I know I am missing out on a lot of gains however I am more sure I won't get screwed over like you did. A small portion on an online wallet to play with. This is why you should see Bitcoin as a pile of cash or gold that is easily usable internationally and not as a replacement for the economy unless you want anarchy. I wish you some good gains in the future!

Watching your net worth slip downwards isn’t much fun, is it?
Going to get hold of some fiat to buy again tomorrow, I guess you have to find a positive in shitty situations.

I find it quite irritating that today, in the 50th anniversary of the launch of the Apollo 11 toward the first moon landing, one of the greatest achievements of human history, BTC isn’t following moving south instead. It would be spectacular if on July 20th, on anniversary of the Moon landing, Bitcoin, another achievement granting for the first time in human history financial sovereignty to individuals, would celebrate with an ATHAYH! Come on bitcoin! You can do that! Picture: Neil Armstrong's Family observing Apollo 11 leaving Cape Canaveral Launch Complex 39A

SEC Begins Green-Lighting Token OfferingsThe U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission recently made history when it green-lighted two token offerings under Regulation A+. “This is the first time in U.S. history that a crypto token offering has received SEC qualification,” one of the two qualified issuers proclaims.
Project mentioned 1. Blockstock : Don't remember this one 2. Props : I remember investing $1200 in this project ( No judgy looks ) and waited more than 1 year to receive the tokens lol

Just checked my coins and see, I lost 0.5 BTC in August 2016 due to trying my skills in daytrading. Was worth about $280 that time. Now it's about $4500 and three weeks ago about $6500. That was the first and last trading I ever did

All I’ve sold in 5 years is the free BCH that I converted into bitcoin (so I was able to sell). I believe in bitcoin long term so all I do is buy, buy, buy, buy, HODL. It just annoys me when I buy & there’s a significant dump shortly afterwards. I bought in two transactions last week totalling £1000, obviously I’ve come out bad on that. I’m going to take some fiat out of the business account tomorrow & buy bitcoin, I’ll say it was expenses or some bull shit. I need to try & dollar cost average down.

With the way things are moving, its anyones guess on which route bitcoin might take and depending on what stimulates the market I foresee BTC taking any one of these routes. My blockchain based, distributed AI algorithm produced the following graph: On the left part of the graph is the fit of the model to actual BTC price (this is why there's only one flashy line), while on the right part future price path based on deep learning path probability density (the brighter the more probable): what do you think?

IDK, but even 3rd party open source authentication software like GA isn't 100% safe. Recently i reactivated an old coinbase account and switched from SMS2FA to GA2FA, but in the long run, i'll switch to a hardware-key based solution. Maybe my ledger nano can be of some use there, but i don't like to rely on a single device for all crypto-related key storage.
Google authenticator BLOWS, that thing is a piece of shit and you don't have a recovery seed anymore. I only use GA for 2FA, recovery keys (written down) for restore at the exchange if the (smartphone) device fails. BTC are transferred to a cold wallet whenever it's more than 0.1 (or 0.01, 0.001 and so on in the future) and for selling small amounts (also future, only maybe) But i'll sure move on to a better solution.
