I’m all for freedom of speech. They’re free to go anywhere else on the inter-webs and make a forum dedicated to just shit coins. They don’t need to be here benefiting from the traffic of the oldest bitcoin forum in existence. The only way I can see this continuing is if the only reason for this forum is profit. Then we literally don’t care what they promote as long as it makes the forum money.

Aren't you the ex-merit source guy who gave away a shitload of merits to scammers and spammers to prove that "the merit system isn't working"? What do you think most of those scammers and spammers were here for, promoting bitcoin? No, they wanted to either promote their scam or whatever ICO that was their bounty campaign.

The bounty hunter problem used to be much worse but thanks to the introduction of the merit system and waning of ICOs it has subsided and is now largely contained to a few specific sections of the forum. Just avoid those sections of the forum.

Of course the forum is for-profit. It's been that way for a long time. If you don't want to hear about altcoins, don't visit the Altcoin Discussion board. Pretty simple solution really. The mods do a great job of keeping things compartmentalized in that regard.

Its really a hostage-taking situation being negotiated between big business and the Federal Reserve, where America is the hostage, and if the feds don't dole out $500 billion (1/4 of the total $2 trillion package) to big business, they just shut everything down. It is another bailout for people who made greedy choices, fucked themselves, and the rest of the country along with them.

Reasonable move. My guess is if this continues at some point people with bitcoin will be tortured or "encouraged" to turn over their "wealth". But what really matters is not wealth but your ability to keep propping up the system till the last second. As a slave when it becomes time for that.

Sure it's totally for a great cause and everything but isn't that just papering over the decisions made a few years ago to defund pandemic response and to put this whole thing in the hands of complete idiots from December-March? Edit:  to be fair, the table Roger tweeted compares corona deaths at a fairly early stage of this epidemic versus other death causes that have been going on for many years (forever, some of them), and have stabilised.  In other words, possibly corona could deaths could ramp up until they overtake other death causes in the table.  This is just to show that I'm fair-minded enough to see all sides of the question.
Nevertheless, in principle I think that a lot of what you see is panic and people engaging in something like virtue signaling, for lack of a better way to describe it.  Everybody has to scream noble-sounding things.
Don't scream anything, stop the group-think, step back and reboot the old critical faculties.  Atrophied critical faculties.  And exercise them.  It takes some effort to just chill like that when the urge is to go full Chicken Little.

I get your point and disappointment, but imo for this to work, they need to be here as well.
