Hedge funds are shorting the hell out of Bitcoin right meow. This is likely going to come back to haunt them. Any short is a future buy, so imagine setting yourself up to have to buy Bitcoin at a higher price in the future. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are more shorted BTC than BTC in existence at some point in the future. This could be GameStop x1000. Maybe this will be the short squeeze that propels Bitcoin to a million in 2025.

Coinbase: Do not worry, your funds are safe, our top security person is fixing the crash

The security:

https://twitter.com/CramerTracker/status/1762906887165473180

This is absolutely insane:

The Coinbase, $COIN, crash just erased $100 BILLION of market cap in #Bitcoin in 15 minutes.

Between 12:15 PM ET and 12:30 PM ET, Bitcoin fell from $64,000 to $59,000.

This was a near 9% swing in 15 minutes right as many Coinbase users began showing a $0 balance in their account.

It also happened to occur just as Bitcoin was less than 10% away from a new all time high.

Coinbase is reportedly still working on fixing the issue.

What just happened?

JUST IN: Coinbase CEO says "We are dealing with a LARGE surge of traffic" that crashed the exchange.

The Bitcoin price just dropped $4,000 and we’re still up $4,000 on the day. That’s crazy. If I weren’t an experienced Bitcoiner I might confuse this massive rally with a blow off top and sell here. Thankfully, I’ve got my eyes set on $100,000 and no $4,000 gain in 24 hours is going to shake me out. Smiley

I also don't see any point in selling some bitcoin now...

It's strange: if there was a correction, there was a sale... where is the sale? to move almost 10% it takes millions of dollars.... what really happened?

just at the time of the coinbase crash Huh

Coinbase "crash" is just a believable as Poloniex "wallet maintenances". And people still leave large amounts of their money with these disasters waiting to happen.

...

Just checked Gemini exchange.  Still working (that is, got to my account OK, balance is correct), but I did not try to sell anything.  80k is my first sell point.

coinbase always crashes during a rip. even the bank person i chatted with about bitcoin a bunch of years ago knew that happens.. i figured her for a coiner for sure when i heard that lol.

gemini is usually ok.

I have to say.. Gemini has always been great.  My best experiences and no disappointments with that company.  There have been a couple occasions where I had to have funds very quick (almost emergency-level type of urgency).  I requested a wire from my Gemini account to my linked bank and the funds were there before I physically arrived at my bank to send them on to the final destination.
Their trading platform is easy and straight forward.

They must be a bit bummed as they were the first to apply for a BTC ETF, but the "early bird" did not get the worm.

Also, no... That's not how markets work... But that would be more complex to explain. Let's just say theoretical market cap is influenced but not directly extrapolable to amounts bought or sold.

You can’t say Gemini has always been great. They screwed everyone in their Earn program. They’re claiming to be making up for it now but we’ll see when it’s all done. I know when the FTX drama was unfolding I withdrew all the BTC I had in their Earn program and as a result they closed my account and then closed the Earn program taking everyone’s funds. I thank my lucky stars I got out in time. I’d stay far away from them.

Next week watching Dune II

Very looking forward

ever played this one?

Fucking loved that game in the 90s. And that led to Warcraft 2 and Command & Conquer.

Flipping awesome time to be a PC gamer.

Was surprised to see no obvious C&C type of games on the PS5.
With all the hype around the remastered Tomb Raider games I started on Tomb Raider from 2014 on PS Plus.
Never played these games that much. One on the Wii ages ago. Anniversary. It seems like yesterday to me but was probably close to 10-15 years ago.

The PS4 one on PS Plus seems ok so far. Pretty great graphics, even if it's 10 years old.
There's two more of these games on PS Plus. No idea if I'll stick it out though.

earn was genesis not gemini they were very clear about that when you used earn..

i also had stuff in earn but when luna/terra etc started to unravel i pulled it all from earn and left some in gemini for trading.

It was literally called the Gemini Earn Program and Genesis was their partner. Just wanted to keep the facts straight. I get it though and I’m glad you were able to pull your funds from the Gemini Earn Program before they stopped withdrawals and left all their customers hanging, which they now claim they’ll pay back.

When I looked at it, it became clear that there was some then unidentified third party (Genesis) involved, so I never bothered to engage.
I used Gemini, but just for trading...they are much less liquid than Coinbase, typically, but it's good to have an option for the situations like today's.
Kraken had this bizarro status before when they weren't able to ACH $$ to Texas residents (as it is one of the states where they maybe have only a partial license).
I did not check since maybe 2020.
