While it will be nice to get these as soon as possible, my understanding is that these are not not yet ready to ship out yet.   So there is no gain from hurrying right now  and closing out earlier.

Has this status changed?

The gain is getting in line ahead of other (potentially large) orders.  We need to get the order in as soon as we hit 597.  Does anybody in this group want to risk delays to benefit stragglers?

I want ~arklan and John K to be working efficiently with ~friedcat such that financial transactions and the tactical details of shipping go without a hitch.  There may be some competition between group buyers themselves, and that is probably where the biggest 'bang for the buck' is to be had in terms of getting these things in a timely manner.

If individuals get their payments in order in a timely manner, that will make things that much easier for the business arrangements to be made and made tightly.

---

In the next rendition of a group buy, I'd like to see a 'side pool' open after a cut-off date.  Basically stranglers could place orders and participants could up their purchase if on a queue (by sending funds.)  As early people welsh of flake out, the gap could be filled in with money sent to the 'side pool'.  This so that a specific block of funding was more rapidly available for a set piece count to facilitate business arrangements in a timely manner.

Of course people who sent funds to the 'side pool' would just get their funds back if they don't get extra gear.  That is the reason for a trustworthy and active escrow-like agent.

---

Another thing I would like to see would be an initial over-charge to cover potential eventualities.  I'm specifically envisioning customs and bulk shipping hassles and that sort of thing.  The operators of the group buy would then have some funds readily available to work with.  If the operators are reliable they will keep good and open records and re-fund people for the overages which were not used.

Retailers and ebay marketers may have made other orders.
Possible, of course. But IMO unlikely.

At the current price there really isn't a pure fiscal justification.

Resale at viable mark-up makes it even less worth buying.

Anyone buying a batch of these for resale is making quite a bet.

I think there is only two group buys which have over 300 pieces ordered, this and the German one. First batch is going to be 10,000 pieces.  I see no reason to rush it especially when in a post made 4th May Friedcat said there is going to be a lead time of 15-20 days, so anythink isn't going to get shipped out before 19th May.
You're assuming there aren't non-group purchases being made?  Group buys are for individuals. Retailers and ebay marketers may have made other orders.

I don't assume anything. I just pointed out a fact that I have noticed by following all the group buy threads I have found.

With all this ranting about too high price, do you assume there are many retailers and ebay marketers taking a risk making orders for ~34000 USD?

No such assumption has been made.  The mere possibility of other orders argues for submitting ours as soon as possible.

if everyone just goes a head and pays now we have no issues. im all for getting the order in early but i also understand people arent on the forums everyday.
Let the timer run out, at that point only accept new orders which can pay at the same time as the order is made. If we have guaranteed funding for 300 i dont think friedcat
will have any issues securing our place in the queue.

bottom line is we can only order those that are paid for... get your moneys in!  (honestly im impressed with how smoothly this group buy is going compared to others i've witnessed. Good Job OP and John and thank you!)

ok I have the BTC now.  had to go the bitinstant route (non-anonymous), as I couldn't find anyone to trade fiat with quickly enough.   sorry for causing any hand-wringing over being a straggler.

will send the funds this evening when I get home to my qt-wallet.

Thank you OP and John for organizing this buy.

Timer removed. End time: 2013-05-10+04:18:59

spreadsheet of orders:

i will send payment now but i want to ask do you ship to Egypt or i have to have USA address ?

egypt is complicated. probably extra shipping costs and such. i'm willing though. is postal service ok, or do you need another carrier? PM me and we'll discuss this.

ok, so things are going VERY well, to my eyes.

i've told john that we should submit the order asap, as long as we can alter it before it ships out to include later payees.

of course, ideally, everybody will pay quick like. come on you lazy blighters! get it in! (that's a joke. i know stuff happens.)

40 people are unpaid as of now. ...wow, this is awesome. Cheesy

i don't post much, but this space for rent.

...

...

That strikes me as sub-optimal.

Looking at things from ~friedcat's perspective, he's got an expected production rate with it's own problems (flakey suppliers, broken equipment, sick employees, etc.)

He's probably got a bunch of customers breathing down his neck wanting exact dates.  Every person in line who wants some flexibility adds variance to those after.  He's probably also factoring the offers of hookers of different nationalities and all kinds of other things he's been offered as well.

If I were the-cat, I would be very inclined to give preference to rock solid money-up-front no hassle type deals.  The more nebulous and variable deals would fall to the end of the production run.

But I'm just guesstimating about all this stuff since I have no first-hand experience with it.

Scene - well lit laboratory with sub-optimal ventilation
Time - present day

the cat:  "Hey, you know that box headed for Utah with 300 of those things?"

employee #1: "Yeah, I'm loading it now."

the-cat:  "They just came up with more dough, throw in an extra 68 or so."

employee #1 "OK boss, sure thing."
