Checking in here:

Slightly displeased I was not given earlier shipping on my one miner (I was one of the earlier orders). I suppose since shipping order wasn't explicitly written, it can be somewhat arbitrary.

A reminder that Monday is Memorial Day, so if Arklan hasn't received the units yet, he won't get them until Tuesday.

Will check back as things develop.

On a related note, I looked back on the thread but wasn't able to see that anyone was able to find a hub that was able to power more than 5 of these things.

Did I miss something ? Does such a beast exist ? I'm starting to search on Amazon.com for something to manage all these guys, and not coming up with anything other than the 12 port hub (http://www.amazon.com/Satechi-Power-Adapter-Control-Switches/dp/B0051PGX2I) that can power 5 of these things Sad

Would something like this work ?

http://www.mondohub.com/hub_overview.php

-(1) 5 V DC port - Power Adapter: Output: 5 V / 4 A
-Up to 500 mA power, all ports

EDIT: Disregard, that 12 port Satechi is a pile of pewp.
Ordered two of the 28 port mondohubs. Will report back with details. (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BV14ZUI)

In theory yes... but...
Quote
For a stable connection, the devices connected to the 12 Port hub must not exceed a combined current of 5 volt 2A

That means 4 erupters.... but i guess 5 should be fine

i ordered and received that hub from amazon.  it was delivered without the external power supply. amazon refunded my order.
i also picked up this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NGQWL2 if it does supply 4A, it should handle 7 sticks just fine: 4 Amps /500mAmps= 8, -1 for variances...

Arklan:

I'm in Europe, you should be shipping me earlier rather than later. I also paid early, and extra (which you decided post-fact and I agreed to).

Are you shipping them in some particular order? I've tried to find this info but this thread has been spammed a lot and I might have missed it.

Cheerio.

The bulk orders of 10 or more were given overnight shipping AND priority order. I assume when the next box of blocks arrive on Tuesday the rest of us will be sent tracking info shipped Wednesday? If arklan is prepared this time with labels and boxes and a car, perhaps they ship out Tuesday, either way the ETA is looking like Friday through next week.

spot on. boxes are ready this time, labels depend on the weight of each package and can only be ordered day of though. though with 70+ to pack, i don't know that i'll be able to get them shipped tuesday unless i can pick the box up in the morning, which i'll try to do.

i've got one of those too - however i only have 5 miners to test it on... handles them fine though.

i don't post much, but this space for rent.

That math is incorrect; it will handle 10 Erupter Sticks just fine.  Look for my post earlier in this thread about that hub.

In fact, I bought that exact hub and it's sitting waiting for my sticks to arrive Smiley

Yeah, those ebay whores are the worst.

*Checks price. Currently going for $1025*

*Dons fishnet pantyhose*

Good luck getting paid though I've had to worst time lately with people buying and refusing to pay.  It takes like a week to get to the point where I've got all my fees back and can relist.

BTW - Another group buy happening soon?  Don't have cash for 4 days and BTC for about a week.

Also the one I have. I've tested it with other devices and it ... works like a hub should. Cheesy  I expect it to meet specs though, Anker makes good stuff.

I think a cheap 10 port usb hub with additional power supply will do it as well. If it's connected to a PC just use the internal PSU with a molex -> DC jack adapter.
Caution: If you want to use a cheap hub like this one http://www.amazon.de/dp/B003ECC702/ref=asc_df_B003ECC70213382566?smid=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF&tag=geizhals1-21&linkCode=asn&creative=22494&creativeASIN=B003ECC702 (this one is a logilink, but there are a few other brands looking like the same, all of them with same hardware inside), you have to desold a part (have a look at the other pictures on amazon). If you don't do that the hub isn't really stable and wants to pull the power from the host if the supply fails. This can kill your usb controller

For those planing on using a raspi make sure to consult http://elinux.org/RPi_VerifiedPeripherals#Powered_USB_Hubs before buying a hub.

For my ztexes i bought a belkin hub (exact model not on list) assuming it would work since other belkins are good. turned out i was wrong. Raspi would see the belkins but not the ztexes attached to it. After an hour of fiddling got it to detect the boards by forcing raspi to usb 1.1 only.

also - guys with 10 or more: it's been brought to my attention that one such order got priority shipping, not express. i'm thinking that, despite my instructions, the office depot worker screwed up. if you guys could check to see if this is the case for you and let me know, i'd appreciate it. i'll figure out some sort of compensation if it's the case. probably a btc refund.

Mine is showing up as Priority as well.  Delivery is supposed to be Tuesday, so I don't need a refund.  Keep up the good work.

By the way, EBay removed one (1) of my listings because I had a link to the USB driver Friedcat posted.

Should be good for 8-10 erupters.  Power supply delivers 4A@5V
Why do you say "8-10" rather than 7-8?

0.5A x 8 = 4A. And some margin should be left for general overhead.

Safe estimate looks like 7 to me.

-- edit

But on the general quality of the device, IIRC I did see these recommended in the Cairnsmore (CM1) thread as being successfully used, and solving problems when other hubs were used, to connect twenty CM1 devices. (Of course, the CM1 doesn't draw operating power from the bus/hub. But it is an indicator of communications robustness.)

USB 3.0 might be a better way to go
Irrelevant.

The USB miners will (I assume) self identify as USB 2.x devices. As such, the hub, if properly designed, will limit each device to 500mA. Which isn't the problem. Aggregate power draw is the issue.

That other hub you linked has the same constraint of 4A max. Same power envelope as the first one. Seven miners max. And the form factor looks far less conducive to cooling.

-- edit

But, IMO, anyone looking to run large quantities (greater than three or four) of these USB miners is "doing it wrong".

At ten you've shelled out 20btc for 3gh/s. Just pay 50btc for a 12gh/s blade.

It's not 0.5 Amps per miner, it's 0.51 Watts.   Cool

But, on second thought, looks like the first one actually might power up to 19 devices.

Assuming 100% efficiency of converting 12v to 5v.

And, that I did the math correctly to convert 12v4A to 5v9.6A.  Smiley
