I don't like Muslims and don't accept their customs, but you forget that in Muslim countries there is still the phenomenon of blood feud. Of course, such cases will not be included in the statistics, but rapists can be severely punished.

Similar incidents have already happened in my place. A tribal girl (of around 15-years) was travelling alone in a local train, and some criminals attacked her. Despite her screams none of the fellow passengers bothered to help her. The ordeal went on for about 3 hours, and the other passengers were busy in WhatsApp and Facebook.

So many cases where shits like this happen and first thing that comes to most people''s mind is to quickly take some pictures to share for people to see rather than taking steps for such things not to occur again. They should add a law that makes you an accomplice if you deliberately ignore a serious crime. I know people might be scared, but if they have a phone, they should call the police. They could also start telling people around them what is happening and maybe they'll find someone brave enough to intervene.

I think I've heard of that. I believe that was more than 5 years ago. True, it was horrible. Just shows how "normal" it seem to people now. I heard Uber there has some sort of call for help button because of the high risk of getting raped. Seems they even do this to tourists (so don't backpack alone if you're a woman).

The government really need to address this or it'll really destroy the country's image. In the short term, harsher punishments would be needed. Greater access to victim's protection as well as easier way to report the crime would also help. For the long term though, there really need to be a cultural change where women would no longer be looked upon as mere objects to satisfy lust.

But the death penalty or life imprisonment must be given based on how cruel the offender is in action. If the offender rapes the victim to kill the victim, the death penalty must be given. You are talking about punishing the fellow travelers as co-accused or accomplice. And yet the perpetrators of this crime were let off without any punishment. In India, the system is against the rape victim (especially if she is uneducated and poor). On the other hand, there are a few rich women, who have filed fake charges against innocent men.

How can you say that rape is normal. I think that if you were subjected to this crime then your attitude to rape was quite different. My opinion is that the victim should decide what will be the punishment of the rapist. It is easy to be humane when it does not concern you.
