Should I Go To College ???

Hi everyone,

What advice would you give a HS senior in US about to decide on and/or enter college ?

yes you should go to college. There are more opportunities when you are a degree holder.

This isn't so much true anymore. Pipe welders, contractors, salespeople, etc. can make way more money than a college education. Getting started early building your equity instead of spending it in an overpriced classroom that puts you in debt for the next 30 years is much more valuable.

My default response is that unless you are pursuing a profession in a regulated industry that requires college, find something else. Engineers, Doctors, Lawyers, etc, need degrees, but I think we sometimes undervalue on-the-job training and learning that can be obtained outside of college if the person is passionate about it.

My team of programmers win awards and hackathons against Stanford engineers all the time, and not one has so much as an associates degree (...okay...one just got an associates degree). But they live computer science. They work hard all day, then play on Github all night. We did a hackathon where they taught the Intel engineers who built the SDK a few things about how to use their own SDK. And they make pretty good money too.

I finished my college, and I'm glad I did because it gave me a broad understanding of my industry, but I didn't need it to get to where I am. I'm glad I did it, but I don't think everyone needs to just go.

Yes Of course! You should go to college to learn more and to prepare your self for working, and if you are degree holder there's more opportunity waiting for you. Small work big salary.

Yes, you should go to college. Most people don't have the time and money to go to college. I suggest that you must grab the opportunity. You have more chance of finding a good job if you are a degree holder.

If you had a chance, why not ? Many people can't go to college because of lack of money and other reasons. But if you had a chance, I suggest that you should go. In the future you will benefit it and will thank you self for finishing college, you can have a higher chance to find job than a high school graduate only. You'll have the advantage because you are a college graduate. But you should pick what course you should go to. Pick the one that you have you interest in it. When you pick the right one, your college life will be exiting for you and it you will face it smoothly and full of fun.

Go to college because you'll have a better opportunity at having a great and well-rounded work when you do. If you have the money, go. But if you're lacking, try to get a scholarship from community colleges or state colleges. It would be such a waste of potential if don't grab this opportunity.

Whatever the reason is, I think we should prefer education over anything. We could build our own business when we are educated and at the same time we can earn when we are professional.

Putting up a business is not easy, you still need knowledge for you to make your business idea sustainable.

The current education system is broken... i think education should be focused first on human behaviour , bringing up good people, and not on technical stuff... if you need to learn technical stuff go to college, or don't, learn it by yourself, or go to a different school like 42

You won't learn in college how to create a business or to run it, you learn it by doing, how many examples do you want?

Yes you should go to college. You need to graduate from college to attain high salary jobs, also for formality and college offers a lot to a person, not just mentally, but it'll help you improve your physical and emotional health.

More opportunities are given to those whose college diplomas were shown widespread on the table of an employment interviewer.
I am not underestimating those who are under graduate and yet very much successful.

Hmm.... Unfortunately in today's circumstances, it is almost impossible to learn knowledge and get an educational degree outside the college. So you are right. Those who go to college (and get their degrees) tend to be more successful in life. They can enjoy all the luxuries, although I can't say with surety whether they will be happy in their family life or not.

Why shouldn't you go to college ? By going to college and getting degree you will be more qualified for your job. So it will be easy to get good job.

That really depends on a person's individual life goals. College is not always the best way to go.
