But now alternative coins are very cheap. I have not seen the market fall so much for a long time. It seems to me that now is a great time to buy altcoins

This is a very tough question. To answer it I would first need to know which altcoins you are considering investing in. Over-all, for a newbie I would recommend that you stay away from the alts and stick to Bitcoin as it is the most stable and have the highest chance of making a positive return in the long-term. However, if you were asking for my opinion on which altcoin to invest in, I would probably recommend a mix of the well known large-cap coins (Eth, Ltc, etc.) as well as some smaller-cap coins (Vtc, Cloak, etc.).

If you are going to hold your coins for long term then definitely bitcoins is not only profitable investment but also secure than altcoins. Bitcoins can make you rich in few years while altcoins are profitable as well but you need to choose proper coins with some research to get good result.

That's true, being a millionaire has come true for several users through altcoins. With bitcoin you get profited without any confusion in it. With altcoins you need to be lucky enough to feel the growth happening with the particular alt in which you have invested. Have a diversified plan to benefit over one another based in the market.

At this point, bitcoin is hardly a reason to lose money. If you've invested last week, you're already in profit today. Most altcoins are currently down right now but eventually some would pick up pace probably after the hardfork. Thing is you have to careful which alt you're going to go with

bitcoin is a better investment right now, and that is a shame since people are sheep and are stupid by dumping their altcoins in order to get a few bucks more, this way cryptocurrencies will never be mature and only greed pays off, they should ban people who sell their alts for btc for profits, alts will never have chance if it goes on like this, this also proves that those stupid people dumping their alts are not true believers of the amazing projects.

If you can try to manage your money correctly i recommend to invest to both of them we know that you can really get a lot of profit in bitcoin if you're a long term investor but what if bitcoin is at it's peak then you lose a lot of money but if you invest in altcoin there is alot of altcoin that has a really great potential but we don't know if this coin will gonna boooooom. So i think it's much better to invest on both so you have a backup if either one of them crashed. Their price has been dumped for some weeks now due to hype of bitcoin and its upcoming fork. The mathmatics is easy: How far can bitcoin go until the hardfork? Maybe 8500$? That's around +15% from now. How far can the altcoins grow after the fork? Way more than +15%

altcoins are always good if you know which ones to buy. it just depends on if it's very small coins, medium sized, or giant marketcaps like eth and ltc. you just gotta look for it.
