Popularity won't be enough to propel bitcoin past fiat and i don't.think the time is near when fiat will relinquish it's supremacy. Though it's evident that many people are keen on using bitcoin already so it may become a main form of doing transaction in a few years

No, because even simple mining requires powerful machines that most people cannot afford. That's reason one. Reason two is that accepting BTC needs infrastructure all over the world. Most countries won't bother building it.

It would be good it it could be a worldwide currency but it would still create problems. 7 billion plus people sharing 21 million coins. The price is very volatile where hundreds can be lost or gained in hours.
