What are they going to do about the shareholders than?  I assume there is going to be some kind of payout?

That sucks.. I actually reached out to cavirtex and tried to make an offer on the business. Looks like I lost! Sad

Might have been worth something, prior to closing out all of the accounts   Huh

From what I heard it was worth a cool 2 million. Coinsetter paid what I consider a lot for the business. It was losing 6 figures a month up until its recent closure. I guess we'll soon see how this merge will play out.. In the end though Im happy as I now have an exchange to use again!

I was happy with cavirtex as a buyer, at least they were reliable (for me) there's not a lot to choose from up here in Canadia. Exchanges seem to come any go.

I went through a lot of hoops to get verified too. Are they going to honor that when they re open?

Watch out for Moriarty shill accounts pumping up his name again.

Well now I'm literally keeping a hands off approach till I see the merged exchange operating for a while
Mintpal left a bad taste in my mouth about buy-out, Ryan Kennedy mumble
Cynicism aside this is good news checking the cavirtex email

__
Dear friends of CAVIRTEX,

I have some exciting news that is bringing CAVIRTEX back to you! CAVIRTEX has been acquired by Coinsetter, a Wall Street-based bitcoin exchange backed by Barry Silbert. Their team has now begun operating CAVIRTEX, and will be integrating their high end trading technology and security improvements in the coming weeks. I wanted to send you this communication to explain what the transition means for you as a long-time user, as well as the larger bitcoin community here in Canada.

When we opened our doors in 2011, our goal was to create a reliable bitcoin exchange that would encourage the growth of bitcoin adoption in Canada. Our focus was always on Canadian deposit and withdrawal methods and holding customer funds in Canadian banks that supported the bitcoin movement and our business model. As we move under the Coinsetter umbrella, I want to confirm that the core focus of CAVIRTEX will not change. Even further, I believe CAVIRTEX’s ability to meet your needs will be greatly improved because of this acquisition. The institutional-grade technology and financial services industry experience Coinsetter’s team is bringing to CAVIRTEX will offer expanded capabilities and even better service for the Canadian bitcoin market.

The support we’ve received throughout the years from our users has been absolutely incredible, and we very much look forward to having you behind us as we continue to improve, grow and most importantly ensure the growth of bitcoin here in Canada.

Thanks,
Joseph David
Co-Founder of CAVIRTEX

--------
Division line between old Cavirtex and new Cavirtex
--------

Since there seems to be a change in ownership resulting in cavirtex becoming a fully operating licensed exchange with TRADING enabled
The question becomes should we open a new cavirtex thread to differentiate or just keep this one and treat it as new ownership.
_____

Resumed trading on Cavirtex! Message from our new CEO‏

As you may have seen announced last week, Cavirtex is now part of the Coinsetter company family. I'm excited to place my focus on this exchange, which has a deep history in the Canadian bitcoin market. As we assume leadership of the exchange's operations, I believe you will see a number of improvements take place on Cavirtex over the coming months. Our priority will be to bring transparency to our users, maintain strong platform security, and to provide quick and responsive customer service to you at all times.

Bitcoin trading has resumed on Cavirtex, and your existing account is available for your use. Deposits and withdrawals of both CAD and BTC have also resumed. if you have any questions about Cavirtex or your account, please feel free to reach out to our team at wecare@cavirtex.com.

You can visit Cavirtex at www.cavirtex.com.

Best,
Jaron Lukasiewicz

Do you hear that suckling,  flushing sound?

Lol, actually that is a good point should still be some discussion about when the shareholders get their 30 dollars a share back
It was sold off so each share still has its value at transfer written into the contract as such the whole bankruptcy thing is void
(Each share should have some value now from the money recieved)

I did make a withdraw using that prepaid debit card at an ATM and POS, just to test it out. The fees were way too big (1 or 2$ per POS sale), and putting money on the card took lots of hours or even days as it was automatic. Also cavirtex I believe has been shut down as well.

Not sure if this thread is still monitored but will check
Was wondering if Cavirtex / Coinsetter still offers an affiliate program for referrals for finding them new site merchants and users that accept Bitcoin and if the merchant api/cart still exists.

I'm curious to hear an explanation for why there is such a huge price difference (over 10%) between the two Canadian exchanges:

Is there a problem with one or both of the exchanges? Otherwise why hasn't the price difference been closed by people looking to make a profit by selling on Quadriga and buying back on CaVirtex?

(BTC-e also has a relatively low price, but the difference isn't as marked as in the Canadian markets).

CaVirtex is the only CDN exchange that can link to a CDN bank account. I think.

So that makes it easier for people to get CAD into CaVirtex? If so, wouldn't that mean their price would tend to be higher than the one that it's harder to get CAD into?

CaVirtex' coins are 10% cheaper than anywhere else. So why isn't someone buying them?

IDK. It also makes it easier to get fiat out I imagine.

I tend to have difficulties depositing with Level 2 Verification there myself from a linked bank account and tend to still use lightbox and canadianbitcoins even at a premium to cavirtex.
The ownership changed a while ago and the owners of the havelock exchange changed hands and left those shareholders in the dust but the exchange works fine for Canadian users who already have bitcoins and want to trade there.
(Problem is getting the fiat equivalent in instead of doing a BTC LTC conversion there to have a fiat balance.)

I'm too lazy to check. Does CaVirtex support withdrawals via EMT or only via a direct bank transfer? I want to withdraw using Interac but I doubt it has it.

https://www.cavirtex.com/deposit_methods
Direct Debit is the cheapest method, Wire the most expensive but with high minimums, and in person bill payment and interac online not being particularly attractive choices.
(Some of that difference Doog mentioned is fees but the arbitrage is quite high if damn funding would work there is profit there murmur level 2 ... ticket sent)

https://www.cavirtex.com/deposit_methods
The amount of X exceeds the remaining 0.0000 / 0.00 CAD deposit limit on this account for this method. If you wish to raise this limit, please press the Deposit and Withdraw links above and read the FAQ.

Its due to liquidity reasons. There aren't too many traders on those 2 exchanges.

Generally when the markets are rallying or diving too fast, those exchanges don't always have up to date prices.

Sometimes a small 100-200 lot order can make the prices differ in hugh percentages while the orders fill.
