Hi, I'm a long time lurker in the forum here, and a happy CaVirtex customer. I'm sorry if this has been addressed, I couldn't find anything about it from looking back in this thread. I recently received the email phishing attempt (including a Java malware attachment) mentioned in the April 8 posting here https://www.cavirtex.com/announcements . I would like to know what everyone else's opinion of this is and more specifically which bulk email provider leaked the database? Additionally, what other information was contained in that database? More to the point (and I have no reason to believe this at this time), how do we know that it was indeed a third party who leaked the info and not Virtex (or a rogue employee)? I want to re-iterate that I give the company the benefit of the doubt as all my dealings have been top notch so far. Thanks all.

Dont do the email thing on the computer that has your wallet or any internet browsing. Isolate as much as possible. I learnt the hard way!

Was wondering if you guys are considering black coin Other than its latest pump and dump it has been increasing at 5-10% per day with huge volume It looks like a solid coin with a solid group of devs behind it. No pre mine and all POS @ 1% Last weekend during the pump it was doing 9000 btc trading days and has been averaging about 500 btc on normal days
Cheers

I am saying this an an invester in cavirtex more than as a holder of BTC/BC there are a lot of canadians in the blackcoin forum and there is a lot of volume Cavirtex makes money off of volume not through some inherent belief that there should only be bitcoin.
besides I bet there are a lot of people coming here to buy and sell bitcoins only to trade them on mintpal for those so called shitcoins when they could be making more profit for cavirtex.

maybe as an investor, you should be more worried about the btc walls that always go up. Do you really think most people are going to use an exchange that some big trader is manipulating. Do you think the volume is affected by this? I dont trade there nearly as much as i used to and adding shitcoins isnt going to change my mind.

At the present time, we're not considering adding any more alt coins to CaVirtex. That's not to say we wouldn't consider adding a particular coin in the future if it reaches critical mass.

i think they stated they have partnered with a liquidity provider. the increased liquidity is preferred actually. however, if i may rant a little... from personal communications throughout 2013, I was told i was one of their biggest clients (traders) doing the >1200 btc/3 month volume required to get the low 1%! trading fee. however, i recently decided to stop trading there. generally, the two main reasons were: 1) the 1-1.5% trading fee seems ridiculous for trading. i would certainly increase my volume to compensate for the lower fees, but currently the fee is prohibitive. In addition, the trading platform would get a 5/10 score from me. comparatively, its just poor and slow. Since they likely know these two things, together they make me feel like they do not want me trading there that much... so i have stopped. 2) as i asked above (to no reply), the withdrawal fee is 0.001. they state this is because of the client software. Well, as we know, 0.9 client was available many months ago. In fact, due to the recent heartbleed, they were forced to update their client as well. So, they are choosing to keep the fee at 0.001 instead of the industry wide standard of 0.0001 (or letting the client decide). In general, this is just troubling as this also leaves me wondering whether they are either A) unaware of the issue B) too lazy to solve it C) to incompetent to solve it, or D) purposely keeping it high... which would you prefer? i do look forward to some/any changes being made so i can return to my previous volumes... if not, well i suppose thats why competition exists.

Common theme. Cavirtex is a safe Canadian way to get money in/out , but trading is done elsewhere.

I have been a customer of Virtex since the fall of 2011, and I must say that the service has been excellent. If there is one thing I would suggest in order to be a truly Canadian exchange is service in French. On another note is Virtex the oldest Bitcoin exchange worldwide that is still alive now that MTGox is dead?
this an interesting question. I will try to find the answer today. Any luck on finding the answer to this, medicine? VirtEx launched on on June 8, 2011. I searched the net and I couldn't find any exchange older. Vircurex started their bitcoin talk thread on October 22nd 2011, and BTC-e introduced there exchange here on the forum on Sept 2nd, 2011. On you FAQ page you mention "We launched the site in beta on June 8th, 2011." There is a large but not exhaustive list here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Category:Exchanges I didn't search through them all. I am 100% there were no Korean exchanges at that time. Other countries, I don't know. Well canadian bitcoins / lightbox launched on july 8, 2011 so you have a month head start I guess they made their thread here first to my knowledge before Btc-e and vircurrex Seems pretty quiet in here! I think I may hear something.... Nope. Just silence.

Wouldn't surprise me at all re: self-trades.
CaVirTex has been shoddy and sketchy as hell since day 1.

Why do say that, I've dealt with them pretty extensively and they've always seemed above board to me. I do think this needs to be addressed though.

We have identified, fixed and tested the issue with our Bitcoin wallet server imposing a fee of 0.0005, 0.0010 and 0.0015. As a result, we have lowered the fee to withdraw BTC from 0.0010 to 0.0005 BTC. Thank you for your patience while we looked into this.

Oh, it's you again. Didn't you say you were gonna have them shutdown by now? I'm just curious to see how your crusade is progressing. As for the self trading accusations, I am also curious to see an official response from CaVirTex.

I think they have liquidity traders actually to deal with arbitrage but that's hired out to someone else We have extensive, risk-based measures in place to facilitate frictionless trading in digital assets while preventing fraud, money laundering and other illicit activities. This is the only way we can ensure that our marketplace remains safe, accessible and fair for all Canadians. https://www.cavirtex.com/why_virtex
