It's pretty easy, the perspective of the company and their bright future. Once you hold some alt coins you are part of the company.

I am a crypto enthusiastic and i know a 90% of people here on bitcointalk are as well.
There are a lot of altcoins in the market today. What should one look out for before investing in any altcoin
Yeah, there is really a lot of altcoins out there today. But no one will ever know if these altcoins will be successful or not in the near future. Here are the things that I am looking at before I invest in altcoins.

1. PRICE: This is probably the first thing that we consider before investing in any altcoins. The lower the price of an altcoin, the more coins we can buy and better chance of multiplying your invested money.

2. MARKET CAP: Market cap (in the cryptocurrency language) refers to the total value of all the coins of a certain altcoin. That is, the current price of a coin of a certain altcoin multiplied by the total number of coins of that altcoin circulating in the market. This infers that if an altcoin has high market cap, there is also a high chance that its value will rise up in the course of time.

3. CIRCULATING SUPPLY: This is the total number of coins available for trading, buying, and selling in the market. The higher the circulating supply of a coin, the lower the chance for it to reach its highest price. This is actually a basic concept in economics - the Law of Supply and Demand. If there's a high supply of a certain product, the tendency is that its price will be low.

4. PRICE CHART/HISTORY: This is my personal basis. I usually look at the history/price chart of the altcoins. It is good to invest to coins with a price chart that has increasing or stable (at least at a reasonable value) trend. An altcoin that comes from low value going up to higher value, in my opinion, is a good choice.

If you are referring to ICOs as the new altcoins, then there's only one thing you should look at: the WHITEPAPER. The whitepaper of a project/ICO has everything you want and need to know about the project. This includes the purpose of the coins/tokens, the roadmap or the future plans of the project, the team, and other more details about the project.

Choosing altcoins to invest in need a really big preparation. Read about team, their white paper, idea of a projects, specific moments. I can told u how i choose Confideal, first i found them in ICO calendar with little description, and I already known that smart contracts is really good area to invest in, then I read about team. The main stage - read and understand white paper, all details, specific of projects. And after all of this i read forums, articles and so on. And even now continue to find new evidence that Confideal is really promising.
Pls read this, really interesting - https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/confideal-smart-contracts-will-jumpstart-icos

Yes I agree with this. In addition you can consider my idea on choosing aside from reading the white paper. Altcoin must be affordable so we could buy greater volume of altcoin. The bigger the amount of coin the greater the profit we could earn. We should consider also its market cap because it could be the reason for the coin to have a potential for pumping and rising in value.

Lastly, the project must be  attractive so that its demand will rise. Having a high demand means having a higher value based from the law of demand and supply. Just like bitcoin, it continues to rise because it haa high demand this time from people. Choosing ICO must really have a good preparation, there are lot of group making scam. Must be aware of everything.

In my own opinion it depends on the ico's platform and the growth of their coin because even they advertise their coins there is still a chance that it will not grow after wards. I only invest in etherium coins because i find that it can recover immediately from loss.

Any Altcoin has the potential to be the next Bitcoin so what encourages me to invest in Altcoins is hoping that I'm doing the right thing that I wasn't did last 2009 when Bitcoin is puclicly launched. That time a single coin has a lower value than a buck then after almost  9 years it is now has a price of more than $6k so time will come that tokens you got right now will save your debts in due time.

In addition to the team and advisor, what interested me is the concept i.e. the problem they are trying to solve. I willing to invest more to project that I really like for what they trying to achieve, even if means that there is little short term gains to be had.

This is exactly wat to look out for in an altcoin project. The team behind it, the roadmap, the whitepaper. 2 projects caught my attention last week. One wants to provide a platform for people to access cheap renewable energy. The other was about data collection from different parts of d world.

By reading the whitepaper and browsing the Developers site, you can tell a lot. You will see if it has potential be big or if it's another scam. But encouragement comes from the community reviews and forums.

If you want the safest coin to invest then highly prefer that you should buy etherium coins.
The biggest example is the incident in china where ico's are banned for illegal transactions and
still eth coins manage to recover and it surpasses $300 as of today, so i bet you invest your money eth coins.

There are many altcoins right now in the market. So many altcoins that you cant imagine why are they putting all their ideas in the blockchain. Not because they can, they have to do it. Some are not really considered as scams but theres no actual use of coins on their projects. You really have to choose a project that you think that have potential in the future and not because you want to earn a little profit by selling when it hits the exchanges. Do a thorough research and background check every member of the team. Dont panic sell when everything is going down. Trust the project you get into.

The motivation and encouragement comes from the potential of profit in altcoin that could go as high as 10 to 20 times profit. You can not get such profit in any trading except crypto currency trading. If you hold your coin the likelihood of this happening is very high!

The cheapness of the altcoins encourages me to invest to them because they are so cheap and it is not like bitcoin that cost a lot of money before you can get at least a whole of it while in altcoins that it just only need a few bucks and then you can actually buy more than 1 amount of it so that is really attractive for me and that is why i put the majority of my money in altcoin.

Just two things:

Can the project thrive as a 'traditional' tech business? And, is there actual utility for their tokens, apart from speculation?

The important things for my investment;

- project
- price/number of tokens
- current situation of the price (technical analysis if possible)

My overall target is having more btc with altcoin investment.

The team first of all.  Without a solid team there's nothing.  Secondly is the actually idea/project.  If a great team is tackling something that nobody could make work, then it doesn't matter and I wouldn't be interested.

Encouragement could come from understanding what the Team are offering and who they are, and what the Project concept is, but viewing the whitepaper or browsing the website and following up with checking some reviews can also encourage one to invest in any particular Altcoin.

I always look at the team and advisors. Look at whether the team is doing analysis of competitors, is there a finished product
