I think the best coin and most suitable for long-term investment is the company and management of bitcoin.

Bitcoin is the always the first choice for long term investment. Apart from BTC, there are even some alternative coin in my opinion that may be trusted as BTC. Ethereum, Neo, XRP, Waves, Litecoin, SONM, Red Pulse, Datum are such alt coins which have great potential to become an important investment to gain long term profit.

I always vote for Ethereum, I believe that he will live forever, that he has a future! well, you can read the forecasts for your coins.

In my opinion, there is only one coin which is the best coin out of all other coins for the sake of holding it for some large period of time and that is none other than that of bitcoin. Most of the long term investors have only opted for bitcoin and this is the right thing to do as well as you cannot find any other coin which can help you make this much of the profit as you can get by holding bitcoin for longer period of time.

Hey, I am pretty sure if we are talking about long term you should consider only solid coins that will be demanded always, have a look at some platform coins like strat, waves, I think they all are good longterm.

I am holding more than a dozen of altcoins and the altcoins that I choose on holding for long-term are Ripple XRP and Tron TRX.
They are both the top altcoins in the market today so I know that they would rise more as many countries and big companies are partnering Ripple to be their official blockchain partner for their products and services.

IMO, Ethreum and Monero are the coins which can be used for long-term investment. Ethereum is looking a bit over-priced right now, but for the long-term, we can expect it to give good returns to the investors.

#1 is NEO -- pays you interest in NeoGas (4-6 %/year interest approx!) It is like a bank for me now.
#2 is Cardano -- super talented team working on this ambitious project. They already have their mainnet out, and once their major milestones are hit, we can expected a very major price jump then (towards end of 2018).

I am also HODLing significant amount of Stellar (XLM), VeChain (VEN), and OmiseGo (OMG).

Sold my Waves after finding out that their team had to plagerised major codes taken from Cardano's GitHub. This do not speak well of their ability to innovate on their own, nor of their capability to make Waves a success.

Even though ETH is already quite popular and has already substantial market exposure, I still think it's the best long-term investment. The concept just encompasses anything that can be encompassed, it's a programable Bitcoin essentially. The fact that already has such a wide adoption means that it's well received by developers and there are already many projects building on it. It's like Microsoft in the old days, they made Windows accessible to everyone and everyone still uses it up this day (the majority at least). The same is with Ethereum, developers are building on the ERC20 standard, and applications (which will be accessed by consumers) will be used by them, that's quite big and I think people have not realized the future implications of this.

I would go for NEO in mid-term with NEP5 emerging - I expect a boom quite similar to that of ERC20 on Ethereum.
In long term, I would go for Cardano. This platform is already in the top 10, there is quite a lot of development going on under the radar according to Github statistics, and there is not much false marketing - seems like a coin for workers... real developers. I would expect it to boom but not earlier then next year.
