In this early phase it is usually hard to recognize which Airdrops are fake qnd which are good. Since there are so many Airdrops lately, first what you can do is a quick validity check. Does the project has a whitepaper, is there any roadmap, do they have a website? If they are asking you a private key than it is a scam and you should runaway from it. I also don't apply for Airdrops where they are asking to install a wallet. You never know is there any malicious software integrated in the wallet. Be careful and everything will be ok. Wish you much success

Its easy to create your own coin.  Just fork any coin from github make few alteration,  then presto new coin!

Some scammers are using airdrop to hack people.  By downloading their infected wallets you can be infected by their trojan that allows them to access your conputers,  find bitcoin core wallets and private keys or even access your poloniex and Bittrex account.

You will never know which airdrop is legitimate and which is not... If you have time just sign up for every single one, maybe you will be lucky and it will be worth it.

Haha the wonderful world of air drops. You really have no true way of knowing if they are a scam or not but your risk is very minimal. They like 5 minutes to read the rules and register and the worst case scenario is you dont receive any tokens ... If you do then its a bonus for what is essentially no work on your behalf.

That's what i think too. We can't know if that is legit or not because a lot of airdrop project is promising but some developer after they get what they want they will abandon the project immediately and probably making another fake airdrop project.

I am convinced many of these airdrops is just to build up a database, devs have no need to get your e-mail address, telegram, etc.

If you need to give your e-mail address use an alias, you can always bin it the end of the month  Cool

I wonder how many send their priv key instead of private key of ether wallet  Cheesy

Besides reading the actual white paper, I don't think you can really know unless you try. Why do you need to know though? You won't lose anything on an airdrop as you won't be needing to deposit something. It's an airdrop for a reason and not an ICO.

Some airdrops are asking for donations to cover the cost of gas.  I'd stay away from these.  I have been signing up for a lot lately, some have delivered, some have not.  I'm not donating anything yet.

If the project has a decent website, active social presence, responsive developers and large community, it's probably not fake.  Whether anything becomes of the project is another matter.

It doesn't matter if that airdrop fake or good you are not putting investment so you did not lose  your money. Fake airdrops are asking your private key and that way I don't intertain that. Many participants of project that's not scam. Anyway airdrops is free no need to invest some of them asking donation but its up to you.

When they ask too much private information and if their whitepaper is not so legitimate-looking. You will really know by instincts if an airdrop is fake. However there is really no much risk because most of the time you will just be asked for your ETH address.

Hello guys am a newbie how can i know if an airdrop is real or fake

I also set "picky" mode on airdrops. I don't wanna be a victim of fake airdrop. I usually look at their visual first, then how the way the manage their airdrop. How detail their briefs. And the most important (for me) is how they display participants data. If they publicly show the data without curates/ hide important info, then I have to consider another airdrop program.

We can easily know that this coin is a scam or a fake because of its information located in the thread, if that was less interesting coin, leave it either. Roundmaps and other plans and some purpose omand goals is not been stated in that thread

Hello guys am a newbie how can i know if an airdrop is real or fake

Well, you can't really actually identify if an airdrop is real by just reading or thread or seeing the rank of the poster (Most newbie did this mistake)

There are airdrops of coins, with really good Design on thread. But end up fail/gone/scam.
There are airdrops of coins, with just few line of text. But end up as a successful airdrop coin.

So its really up to someone to check, research and think about the future/possibilities of a new coin

It is not easy to know the fake airdrop projects, because the fake devs try always to show their projects as legitimate ones, however there is some signs could help to find the fake projects. For example if they asked you to provide your private keys (or even the public keys), or if they asked you to send high amounts of ETH as donations, so its better to stay away from such projects.

When you see a dev that gives tiny little amount of airdrop and the roadmap is going very long with no definite plan for development in short to medium term, then you should know that the particular airdrop is fake. In addition to point made, when there is minimum amount of effort is not put into white paper, Ann, bounty that is also anothet red flag. These factor mentioned so far is not limited to airdrop alone, it should be apply to ICO, altcoin etc.
