i've changed my stance a bit on MEC. kimoto is clearly atleast somewhat talented at what he does. however, it appears MEC was either a planned frontloaded coin  or he lacks a grasp of basic economic principals like inflation, deflation, supply, and demand, or even less harsh he could have just been experimenting to see what would happen. just my two cents i know no one asked for  Grin maybe he will weigh in eventually one why MEC was so frontloaded.

Of course it was planned that way fool!  Roll Eyes

From the ground up, Megacoin was designed to be a Bitcoin/Litecoin killer.

At least, that was my opinion from day one, and still is.  Cool

It's amazing what can happen in just a few months.  Shocked  (for the clueless ones, I'm speaking of the next few)

The people who have been complaining about MΣC's front load are the same weasel-dicks that have been sitting on the sidelines for the last few months griping about MΣC this, MΣC that, or the MΣC the other thing while they could have been mining, or buying dirt cheap! There is always someone with more money, or more mining equipment! Get over it!!! All the while MΣC has mostly been less than a penny, sometimes half that! It amazes me there are people that cheap, and ignorant who have anything to do with something as volatile as Crypto-currency!

Even now, a few hundred bucks will buy you a nice position in MΣC.  Wink

Why is there no(little) developer support for this coin?

  • Questions go unanswered.
  • There is fatal flaw in megadice where coins get sent to the wrong address
  • There is no irc room for better involvement of discussion of development ideas.
  • Long terms plans either do not exist or are secretive.

Here is an example of a dev team supporting their coin by good communication.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=227287.0

I own a fair amount and I am done buying at this point until the above improves significantly.

There is plenty of dev support -- the dev doesn't spend all day in the forums, however. If there is something to report or an update is ready, you'll hear about it.

The Megacoin dev team did not design, nor do they operate, Megadice. Was unaware of the flaws -- you should contact ethought.

An active IRC room is not a bad idea.

Medium-term plans seem pretty obvious...but long-term plans don't really matter much to me. Goals change and adapt. This is one of the few altcoins that has been more than just empty promises.

You are right about the Anoncoin dev being on the ball -- they know the best coin to borrow features from. Megacoin's difficulty adjustment will come into effect soon, I believe. A lot easier to use somebody else's work than to develop their own.

They gave credit to Kimoto, no shame in that.   And Kimotos communication has lacked and could be better.  He delivers results though so far so I'm not too worried.

Notes about the new client
* A known GUI issue when stuck at high diff, the GUI claim it's unsynced. (Will be fixed in a release right after 87777)
* Coin control
* Based on Bitcoin's source code 0.8.5.3
* Kimoto's Gravity well

They also confirmed r3wt was full of shit when he claimed he created gravity well and kimoto stole it from him.

A Note to you guys;

J-coins SSDRA Retarget system is a scam.

Kimoto wrote this patch, credit goes to him! Thank you! Smiley

(Kimoto, the Megacoin developer)

The more coins that use kimoto's gravity well and properly give him credit the better it reflects on megacoin IMO.  (it shows that isn't just a copy paste coin)

I want and believe there is great potential for Megacoin to succeed. The main problem is the small amount of communication, it is hurting adoption by the community. Also, i think more people would like to contribute but we may feel uninvolved and do not know how because it seems development is secretive.

If you have something to offer, go for it! There are a lot of projects in the works here. Some of us have given hints about what's coming, but there is no point in spilling the beans before it's time!

Kimoto has been very active, and has given us everything we need. He has delivered every step of the way, and hinted there is more coming. Why would you want him to tell the rest of the community what he is working on, before it's ready? They are just going to try and copy his work anyway.  Roll Eyes

Less than 2,000 blocks to go, and the reward drops to 50. Looks like the event will happen this coming weekend.

Why is it that "some of us" somehow know more than the rest of the community?  I've read every post on both forums and the "hints" do not reveal anything. It seems like there is some inner circle of people but they only post hype and innuendo. If people know something and want to hype the coin, just says what it is, only providing hype and no substance hurts the coin, makes it look like GLD forum.

Kimoto himself has posted things he plans to integrate into megacoin.

Congratulations everyone on being members of the 42,000 club! Everything has been growing steadily as planned. Decentralization of services, enhanced anonymity and instant transactions are all destinations planned on this fantastic voyage.  Happy Mega-day to all, and to all a Mega-night.

-Dr. Kimoto Chan

The next release was focused on decentralizing by integrating p2p pools/mining directly into the client.

So Zerocoin, p2p pool built into the client, instant transactions, and I'm not entirely sure what decentralization of services meant.  Beyond that the members of this forum have discussed creating payment processors and other things.   The p2p got pushed back to release gravity well.

Yes this is a good summary. It these things I wish we had an open discussion about. Today it seem MEC success depends on trust in only Kimoto delivering. It would be better if there was more than one person so that we could continue forward with or without Kimoto, real life events can happen to any of us.

Right now it seems like it is no Team, only Kimoto + Cheerleaders.

Do we have a github where anyone can propose fixes, ideas, and changes for review?

I see, but that is a 2 sentence post telling us nothing..

I'm hoping it means zerocoin, awhile back he said he had zerocoin news for us but it also got pushed back for gravity well.

I too wish we knew more, Kimoto isn't all that open about what he's up to currently.  There are other people working on things outside of the coin that have been discussed in this thread, so there's some team going on, just not with the coin itself.  If Kimoto delivers zerocoin before the other coins get it though I think a lot of services will naturally follow.

So far, the only concrete differential Megacoin has over other alts is the 'gravity well' difficulty adjustment. Neat contribution to the cryptoscene but ultimately minor, and in today's swarming sea of clones not enough to make it rise up to be a serious contender.

Kimoto would serve the coin well to lay down a concrete, plain english development plan over the next 12 months. I bet there is a lot of people like me semi-interested in Megacoin but put off by the lack of Kimoto communication and annoyingly vague statements and hype.

Simply not true, but if that's what you choose to believe...  Grin

It's all part of the Megacoin plan, and I don't see any benefit in giving the competition any ammo. I believe the only unplanned event was the initial difficulty issue, which apparently got rid of a few weaker participants.  If you are put off by this lack of communication, there are plenty of other coins out there. Good luck!  Wink

He has been silent for a while, we might get some news around block 84000, the end of the adoption phase, it would be a perfect timing !

But well, zerocoin must be though to implement. But that would really give us something against other coins !

I don't think we are ready to have a lot of interest in this coin. Please wait until the block reward drops to 25.  Wink

Zerocoin is not going to be implemented, it is alpha. The block size it would require is retarded and there are other ideas like coinjoin that the code has already been written and tested with litecoin and does not bloat the block size.
