I'm not sure what to tell you, man.

Well.. why do you like MEC? Why are you mining it? Why do you believe in it? I'm interested in hearing that.

Edit: Just to be clear: I have about 2500 MEC and I'm not gonna sell it. I do get a good vibe from the coin, but I prefer logic and science to feelings. Other coins like securecoin have a very clear presentation of their innovations so it's very easy to form an informed opinion.

Edit 2: Screw it, I'm gonna read the entire thread again while listening to some good music.

I'm just trying to see what you other guys are seeing, but I'm just getting the run around with no details at all. I'm not asking to be spoon fed, but I really couldn't find any technical details or innovation at all in this thread. If I missed it, please at least enlighten me as to what to search for.

I guess as far as I'm concerned, there isn't anything else out there that is more innovative. At this stage, I'm not sure the innovation aspects alone are enough to blow your mind.

Basically, I started mining it when it was somewhat new...was impressed with the quality of Kimoto's work and progress...and I'm intrigued by the future Megacoin plans. Zerocoin implementation is in the works and, if properly implemented, Megacoin would be in a class of its own. It's always profitable to mine and I think it's extremely undervalued right now. What technical details are you looking for that aren't already in this thread and which coins offer them? It won't fly you to the moon...but maybe someday it could be used to fund the trip.

I don't see another coin out there with as much potential for growth. Only time will tell where Megacoin goes...but based on my assessment it's the best value and opportunity out there. People talk about the innovation provided by Primecoin/Namecoin/etc and I call nonsense -- being different doesn't automatically make it innovative. If Primecoin wasn't purposely designed to be unfriendly to GPUs, imagine how many more prime numbers could be "discovered" by now.

My current focus on Megacoin is fueled by potential and intrigue -- I have seen enough positive things from Kimoto to convince me that this is a great opportunity. All altcoins come with a risk...and I would say Megacoin offers a medium-low risk:high reward ratio.

bholzer:

Thanks for the reply. We'll leave it there as I don't don't think we'll get much further.
I appreciate your comments about Primecoin etc.. and I've read the thread again, and while zerocoin is definitely interesting, there's this: http://sx.dyne.org/anontx

Simply put... I'm staying in with what I've got, but to actually buy some or dedicate more mining time to it I guess I'd need more to go on. I'm keeping an eye on it though.

Why did ohiwastedmylif dump and leave by the way? Didn't see a clear reason for it anywhere.

I could be wrong but I think he dumped because of the current price level. I think he wanted more of a price swing in a shorter MOUNT OF TIME. aGAIN i MAY BE WRONG.

I think thats exactly what happened. A lot of the new coins come out and have just a ton of BS and hype to go with them.  Mega was released right in the middle of the hazzard coins, did not get much love. As I said before, organic growth is just that. Natural. No chocolate covered turds sprinkled with crushed nuts with a spritz of perfume to hide that down under the hood its still a turd.
Some people want Instant growth, a skyrocket to the moon and a quick buck. Mega is a long run coin.

One reason I like to support certain coins is the ability of the developer.

There are plenty of coins around which are simple copy and paste coins. This is fine up to a point, but when changes need to be made and innovations need to be added / included the less skilled / experienced devs tend to not be up for the job.

This is where I think Megacoin is different. Dr. Kimoto is clearly a very competent dev, he managed to use the latest bitcoin code, which no one else was able to do. The Megacoin qt client looks great - better than most other coins. The megacoin.co.nz website is hands down the best I have seen for any new coin. Kimoto will not take a single coin in donation (unlike most other coin devs) which to me shows me he is not interested at all in pump and dump tactics. The Megacoin client gives the lowest amount of stale / invalid shares for any coin I have ever run a pool for (probably owing to the latest bitcoin core code). The talk of Zerocoin being integrated into Megacoin which if true and if Kimoto can do it would instantly bring this coin to the front of the altcoin race.

I think when a dev can demonstrate the achievements listed above you can pretty safely bet that the future is bright for Megacoin.

Apart from the skill of Kimoto, I think the community around Megacoin is also great. I see a loyalty and a feeling that Megacoin will succeed that I dont really get with the majority of other coins. You just have to look at the stability of the Megacoin price on cryptsy to see that very few people are selling which to me shows strong belief in the coin, and lets face it long term for most coins on cryptsy the price only goes down from launch.

As Kimoto says "These are exiting times".

I assume ohiwastedmylife got in at the beginning, so he certainly didn't lose anything. But again, I think his alias could be quite fitting. Maybe even as legendary as the guy who paid $10k in Litecoins for a pizza. As Megacoin approaches $5, there will be campfire stories about the hundreds and hundreds of thousands of MEC he gave away.  Grin

I couldn't have said it any better. My buddy VR4mines just moved over more cards this evening. I also have another friend who has seen the Megacoin light, and will be mining with us soon. Thanks for all your contributions.

On another note, my Megacoin Client keeps crashing while writing to block. With virusscanner, without, firewall off and on, clean install or not, reg cleaning, etetera, I've tried it all. I've also set up the client on another pc, downloaded the whole chain and used that as a base for the client on my own pc. It doesn't matter. Within minutes it crashes  Sad

You said after a clean install? After a clean install of Windows? Obviously you have some other piece of software, or have done something to your O.S. that is causing it to crash. As far as I know, not one other person has ever had this issue. You need to look at what else is running on your system, or for corrupt system files. Your problem is not the Megacoin client, it's something else.

He's right -- I've literally heard of nobody having this issue meaning it is completely unrelated to the Megacoin client. Do you have another machine to run it on? Your machine is, without a doubt, the issue. A clean install of Windows would likely resolve it as well.

Well its time.  Time for dinner..
I would like some Pizza for the evening.. Will be willing to trade 5000 MEC for a Nice large meat lovers pizza, thin crust Delivered to my home.
It seems that every coin to become any reasonable success has to have a pizza order involved. I will fall on the sword for that pizza.

PM me for anyone interested in making this happen.
