The subtlety of PortableApps is they are written to a directory on the external drive (which means the PA version needs to be configured to ensure these files aren't left behind on a host computer - you don't want to leave part of your wallet/earnings on someone else's computer)

That's really no problem, and honestly it can be done with the present client, using a 'crafted' blahcoin.conf and 'crafted' shortcut. One of the things that has always annoyed me about the coin client is that lack of 'pathing' flexibility out of the box. I think one of the reasons for this is that, in Linux, all of that stuff is very easy. Take this for instance:

Then in sexcoin.conf you set the datadir and bingo, instant jump drive.

Windows is just different. You don't want to open a command prompt to start an app. You don't even want to edit a shortcut. The 'windows' way is to open a config dialog, or set your pathing on installation. Then there's the issue of needing write access. IMHO, Windows has made their OS so secure that only malicious software can do anything on it anymore. So, defaulting all the pathing to %AppData%\Roaming\% is the best way to INSURE that your released app with have the access it requires.

This is something we plan to address.

That brings up the next point:

Windows uses its swap file extensively, and this is the part that is a real challenge. How can you be SURE that unlocked wallet data isn't left in the swap area...in plain text? Its not TOO impactful on your own PC, but whoring that jump drive all over internet cafes is another story. I don't know the answer to that issue at the moment, it warrants more investigation.

But seriously, the idea is worth the investigation and effort!

haven't read your description, so forgive me if i assume something wrong. But my idea of a portable app would be to store the client on the USB drive that gets executed on plug in. The USB drive would also store the "db", peers data, etc. I believe QT has to call the windows API GetSpecialFolderPath. Just search the code and replace. Also do not write into the LOG by default or you'll run out of space rather fast.

totally not true you end up with less coins overall I have tested it many times with many coins and its a lot easyer to solo mine on multiple rigs as I already have it all set just 1 click

most pools are run by sleazy operators and I don't believe that is the case in here. At the current hash it will take you over 8 days to get those 1000 blocks. So good luck and hope no more miners join in attracted by the hash rise. I'll keep the p2p pool running to attract more miners
