I think it will happen but not now. Because bitcoin is the main power of altcoins. You need bitcoin to buy other altcoins. If someone will make a trading site or trading app that exchange FIAT to ETH and ETH to FIAT directly maybe some altcoins will have the same value as bitcoin has. But I think it's impossible to surpass bitcoin. Many people are investing in bitcoin, so it's hard to say that someday that some altcoins may surpass bitcoin. But we will not know what will happen to the future.

Almost all altcoins shouted this kind of statement. Every time they are trying to launch it, and yet bitcoin is still on top. Well, it doesn't guarantee  that bitcoin cannot be totally beaten.
