I think no. In my opinion, no matter how promising the Etherium coin is, it will not exceed the price of bitcoin. I think its price is 10% of the bitcoin price.

Nope I do not think it will reach half of the value of BTC right now, I just don't see how its possible. Gains and profits are definitely to be made though from long term holding and trading. Most may see that as bad but honestly its a nice reliable low and slow coin.

Just wondering if ETH can

I have read somewhere that Ethereum will have to gain at least 1502% of where it is right now to reach where Bitcoin is now (assuming at current coin supplies). So, Ethereum will probably never reach to the price where Bitcoin is.

Yup, ETH can and it will reach the BTC value. BTC for 2017, ETH for 2018.. but who knows. This is just my speculation
Your comments are great. ETH is the focus of this year. BTC capitalization has fallen from 43% to 38% on Dec 19 2017. Trends in 2018 will be the favors of smart contracts. NEO, QTUM has launched a token. Companies have replaced IPO with ICO. This makes smart contract platforms hotter.

Totally agreed. It will be the year of smart contracts like eth, bancor, neo. Anyway I don't expect eth to reach btc value tough. Eth will increase for sure but it will not be as much as btc's vlaue. I also wouldn't like btc to drop somehow.

Yes anything is possible, but i think i take many years for ethereum to reach BTC value. It is a new year we can see the movement of these two valuable coin on market.

Just wondering if ETH can

Well, that is impossible to reach the value of ETH to the head of crypto currencies that is BTC. Why? Because it was proven already that few years being started, the bitcoin has successfully reach the $20,000 exchange rate in 1BTC to USD in just 9 years. In that significant the ETH is only 1K USD in such a couple of years already.

Such a couple of years? It's not even more than 2-3 years history for ethereum. And remember the blockchain doesn't exist from the very first beginning on the platform. ETH can't reach BTC price, yet it can make $5k-10k prices in the next years.

Yes, it can reach BTC value or even higher than this, though, It may be possible after a couple of years later as these two in actual are different from each other and are created for different purposes. Ethereum is based on the principle of block chain which supports Bitcoin and this purpose does not compete with Bitcoin.

No, actually it can`t, and there are a lot of reasons. BTC is like a gold in real assets, so it has to cost so much, but even it is really overvalued now. And ETH has a lot of problems in smart-contracts, and it can`t be used as money to pay goods in the real world.

Theoretically, this is possible because the ethereum needs to be capitalized only 5 times more than at bitcoin now

Ripple is #2 in coinmarketcap because it has more supply (40 Billion) than Ethereum but ripple cannot surpass ethereum in terms of value or price.

It is possible but in a long run. Ethereum has a lot things to do to make it happen. Considering that there are new competitor just behind Ethereum like NEO, Stratis, Cardano and many more.

I think you are mistaken but after the demise of grandfather his grandson always comes up to his age. Same can surely happen with BTC too. BTC as we are seeing is growing really old. With a lots of market cap flowing in and rising fees along with network congestion its undoubtedly risky to invest your funds today in BTC. They might moon the very next day or might face a major correction. Moreover with funds in btc you are more or less moving with the pace of market. ETH has a great platform and has made crypto accessible to everyone. It has a great blockchain which can easily fight off congestion. It can be optimized for a wider adoption. So my vote is for ETH for sure.

In longer term, ETH value can even overrun bitcoin's value. Both of this coins are created for different reasons and ETH has a lot of real world usage while bitcoin has become a store of value nowadays. ETH is widely used to create tokens to fund new businesses. Also the transactions are superfast and lot more cheaper than bitcoin which increases its acceptability to the frequent transactors.

Also if we see the market cap, ETH is holding the second position since a long time now. Which proves that ETH is widely accepted and praised by the crypto community. So I believe, ETH can certainly reach the current level of bitcoin, probably not soon but surely in long run.
Etherum really catch the wave of popularity and today it suggests the most popular technology about making new coins. This is going to be in demand. I am agree with your suggestion, one day it really can overtake Bitcoin's value.
