Following the fabout, we have a projected bumpout date of December 21st

Cheesy  In other words, there will be no December deliveries and January is iffy, just like I told you all.

ALWAYS BET ON iCE...

Do you think there's still any December order? with the price difference i'm sure everyone transferred their order to January just like i did. Most likely we will get our machine shipped out mid to end of January.

+1, I switched to two miners instead on one, at a cost of +2-3 weeks...seemed worth it to me, plus I'll get refunded the $2000 difference.  On top of that, there's less chance of being a 1st shipment guinea-pig with a broke system.

Am I the only idiot who kept a December unit?
*sigh*

I wish Cointerra would let us know what the timing will be of all these.  If they don't space them apart by at least a month it's going to really annoy the December unit folks ridiculously unless they ship extra hashrate to the December folks either by binning the chips or just shipping two units or something.  Cointerra's promise was just to deliver within 30 days of Dec. 31 and the January units don't have to be delivered until February 31st so they might just end up spacing out all the units.

I don't think I knew about the offer, thought I likely wouldn't have taken it in any case.

My email shows a 10% off coupon for a January order, which I didn't opt into as I didn't think doubling down into an unproven hardware company would have been wise. The boards and cases look pretty nice. I'm looking forward to receiving one.

If all December customers changed their orders to January, Cointerra would not be late.

Yes, but then all the December customers that kept their orders would be upset that they basically paid 2.5x the price for the same thing?  So if they ship them all basically the same time they should ship the December ones at least a few days earlier and maybe just ship two units per unit ordered or something.  Or just convert everyone to January orders?

Anyone have a citation for the offer to convert to January orders? (I assume it's burred in this thread someplace?)

[Edit: Ah. They got ahold of me. I'm all good now.]

I split off a bunch of OT hashfast stuff into https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=372651.0

Sorry about that. Can you all please keep this thread on the subject of CoinTerra?  Some comparative mention of the competition is inevitable and fine, but if your messages are not PRIMARILY about CoinTerra thats not okay.

I'm curious why CoolIT went for what appears to be 1/4" tubing for such a high heat load. You don't see 1/4" tubing in any serious PC water cooling gear anymore (last time I saw it was the $100 kingwin cooling systems back when the total dissipation of CPU+GPU was maybe 125W total). The radiator appears to be similar in size to a car's heatercore. Those usually have 1/2" hoses or larger.

Seems silly to waste the huge radiator surface area with such restrictive tubing, but that's just me.

Where is the pump in that setup?

Itty bitty pump in the part that mounts on the chips.

Where is the pump in that setup?

one pump on top of each asic.  same way that most pc liquid cooling does it (e.g. corsair, nzxt etc).  spreads the load and provides some redundancy too.

and the radiator doubles as the reservoir.. as cold liquid comes out the bottom and warm liquid goes in the top.  see cointerra photos from my trip report last week

Most integrated liquid cooling systems put the pump on top of the CPU now.  Given the beefcake looking radiators there this system should have plenty of cooling capacity.  Of course, these chips also put out crazy heat so hopefully it's enough.

So I spoke with Cointerra today and apparently I really am one of the few idiots who didn't switch batches since apparently the December batch is now very small compared to the January batch.  Guess I should have switched batches along with everyone else since the early January orders will be shipping immediately after the December batch is done.  Doh.

Here is, in chronological order, everything I could find Cointerra saying about their "expected" "December" batch:

TerraMiner IV will ship in December this year

Systems expected to begin shipping to customers, Mid December.

We are indeed on track for our delivery times.

We are still very much on track for our presented delivery time.

we are indeed still on time table for our production.

The fabout of the first wafers is scheduled to occur on December 17th

Please not the last quote isn't from the main Cointerra account, which hasn't posted in weeks (despite the big news of no December shipping really needing an official announcement/explanation/OP update).

Did you order from the december batch, icebreaker?   do you want to switch to the january batch?  you know, unlike some others, they will let you move from dec to jan batch, and apply full credit (and even partial refund).  these guys re very amenable to special requests, unlike most other asic vendors I've had the pleasure of dealing with.

whats fuelling your vendetta, icebreaker?

you're so unflaggingly positive about hashfast and yet so anti cointerra?   whats going on? why the bias?  why can't you just be pragmatic, balanced and decent.  All companies are just trying to sell their wares.  why do you have to favour one and trash another one.  Why can't you support them all?  or support just one even but why do you have to go out of your way to trash the other one?

the very things you accuse cointerra of, you could equally accuse almost any other asic provider of similar... of being optimistic, ahead of their tapeout?  of promising they will deliver on schedule?   of moving dates?  big deal.   are they moving them a lot?   they're barely even late.   and even if they deliver their december batch in january... big fucking deal!   thats the least late they could possibly be.  heck, i know other asic companies who are later.. and have an angry mob of customers.

do you know ANY OTHER ASIC COMPANY that lets people move orders between batches, and get refunds and full credit?   i sure don't!!

thats why you're the ONLY one who seems to be unhappy with cointerra.   do you see anyone else at all agreeing with you?   Absolutely anyone?

And in turn we got the price slashed in HALF for a january delivery.

Nobody disputed the obvious, publicly-announced fact that Cointerra "price slashed in HALF for a january delivery."

Indeed, the crux of the issue is that those cheaper-by-half January deliveries won't mine anywhere nearly as many BTC as "mid December" deliveries would have, if Cointerra hadn't lied about their shipping dates.

I'm not sure why you are trying to use an undisputed, widely-acknowledged fact as as sort of 'GOTCHA' or pseudo-argument clincher.

Are you trying to avoid the nasty particulars by retreating into warm fuzzy generalities?  It sure looks that way...   Wink

I was responding to testerx, who is in a predicament because of Cointerra's failure to actually deliver their "mid December" batch in mid December:

So I spoke with Cointerra today and apparently I really am one of the few idiots who didn't switch batches since apparently the December batch is now very small compared to the January batch.  Guess I should have switched batches along with everyone else since the early January orders will be shipping immediately after the December batch is done.  Doh.
