I just started a website for a service that buys and sells bitcoins for pesos. I closely follow market rates. Check it out here: BTCPHP.com
Hindi pa masyadong tapos yung website, pero I think it's good to go Cheesy

Hi!

I make payments to the Philippines once a month for an assistant I got, I have used a money transfer to Banco de Oro and Paypal in the past...

Would there be a way to use your service to pay with bitcoins and you pay in the most convenient way for a local?
Would that be a bank deposit and is that free?

Thank you,

Yes, the most convenient way is through bank deposit. I can deposit to most banks in the Philippines including Banco de Oro. I don't charge fees on deposits.

Hi all,

I am willing to buy some bitcoins for pesos. I am in the Philippines. I want to buy P1,000.00 (one thousand pesos) worth, or approximately 4.51429565 at the prevailing exchange rates posted on mtgox and bdo (BTC to USD, and USD to PHP respectively.)

In the future, I think we all could use a working exchange, or we could be part of a cooperative of individual exchangers that buy and sell BTC / PHP with a small percentage margin spread (like regular money changers or banks.)

I posted a similar ad on some other websites, but didn't get any offers.

My method is simple. The summary is basically as follows:
1. Send BTC to an address. I confirm by blockexplorer or block chain or whatever.
2. I deposit money to your bank account the next banking day. I email you the deposit slip.

a.) first preference: BDO and BPI
b.) second preference: AUB, Metrobank, Robinsons Bank, HSBC, Bank of Commerce, Standard Chartered, PNB, East West Bank, Security Bank, Chinabank.

Because, they are all the banks in my immediate area. All other banks are quite distant and frankly a hassle already. On weekends, expect to wait at least until Monday or Tuesday.

BTC prices fluctuate daily, however we will fix the rate at the time you send the bitcoins, based on the low end of the largest bitcoin exchange (mt gox), the dollar to peso rate (BDO), less miscellaneous expenses (going to the bank, gas, toll, time, fees that would have been added). The final computed rate will of course be lower than if I had to get it through an exchange. And, I'm rounding the numbers.

I'm also going to assume you mined the bitcoins, otherwise you will probably not sell them to me. But that's not important where you got your bitcoins from. Basically, I paid you for your computing powers, as opposed to me getting my own mining rig or selling my nvidia video cards. Win win.

Text me at 0917-845-1257 if you have more than 5 BTC and want to sell to me. Thanks.

BTW, paano kayo bumili ng BTC sa mtgox? Kasi I think I would have to get a dollar account muna and then wire transfer it to them or arumexchange or something like that?

I'm pretty sure it won't be long until an online exchange for btc and php appears. But for now, we could use this forum to do local trading and start building a network of trust.

Shouldn't the buyer pay first, and then the seller delivers the goods?

Slippage may be a problem when trading isn't real-time. But the good thing is that sellers and buyers have leeway to strike prices. Almost everybody is a market-maker here at this point. We don't have to follow mtgox prices, although I use it myself as reference price for convenience. So slippage becomes irrelevant at the moment.

I don't mine. I've bought and sold bitcoins in #bitcoin-otc and mtgox last year and have invested in GLBSE. Right now, I'm liquidating my GLBSE shares in mining companies and the btc proceeds are what I'm selling now.

Heheh.. yes, buyer should pay first. hehe. Of course, you can look at it either way because you are buying pesos for BTC. (I am buying BTC using pesos.)

I tried trading on TipidPC but very few people kasi are into bitcoin, everyone is into computers and gadgets (what do you expect, it's a computer forum.)

Meron bang reputation points or something dito? Parang wala eh.

Thanks for the info sa LR account. medyo two steps parin pero baka ganun lang talaga at least isang method.

Well, there are scammers and good trader threads in the forum. People just post about a good or bad transaction with someone else. And there is also http://bitcoin-otc.com/viewratings.php . But you have to trade at #bitcoin-otc for that one.

Following with interest - I think this might end up being a cheaper option than Western Union for money transfers to The Philippines?

PS - I don't speak Tagalog and I'm sure there are more foreigners like me with Pinoy dependants who might be interested in this thread.

Seller vs buyer... I don't see any other option than customer pays first really? Will only work of course if the business enough to lose (or enough trust built up).

Google translate is your friend Smiley I believe Tagalog isn't used often enough online and would love to see it used more in the "Pilipinas" thread.

I follow you MadSweeney - even offline in The Philippines you're not using your own language enough. National TV, Newspapers, politicians, officials etc. always speak English even to Pinoys - I don't get it? Perhaps because the dialects are so different and Tagalog is based on Luzon?

Not always. We mostly speak our vernacular languages. But I cannot answer why we also continue speaking English and why we speak different languages in different regions.
