This is an epic question. A lot of  people avoid holding alts because they feel that they can get a better ROI from cheaper alts. This is true but you are fully exposed to the wild swings of bitcoin and and other cryptocurrencies, also risk being left in the dust when bitcoin goes full bull and alts start getting dumped. But considering the volatility I think better choose a good alts when you want to hold. You will not hurt as long as you do not sell panic.

Holding altcoins are not dangerous , because its just holding it and there is no illegal that has been doing in holding altcoins. I hold altcoins months now eversince i receive them in an airdrops and in the bounty campaigns that i participated. It is good to hold altcoins because when their price goes high , we can gain more profits feom those altcoins. And we can earn more money through those altcoins that we are holding.

as we know many altcoins from previous years do not have prices now, it's because the developers of the coins have no plans for the future, so before holding altcoin you should know first the potential of altcoin, whether the coin has potential for the future?

Holding altcoin is a good way to make but the major problem altcoin are completely dependent upon bitcoin price. Choosing best altcoin is always a good way to hold because of those coins has a huge chance to increase it's price.

In the past 3 months, I hold lots of different altcoins and most of them are down pretty bad, I wish I sold them at the top but it's not easy and I got too greedy. If you can't afford to lose money then don't play with alts

Last year alts rise a lot. I dont know the average percentage. But when I check coins in the market at year 2013 lots of them dead now (too low ranks). probably new tech coins won them (like peercoin, namecoin, ixcoin etc)

Also we are following new ICO s and most of us expecting too much gain from new coins which are not at the market. If our ICO expectations will happen, when they added to market, current market coins will go down. kind of paradox  Huh
Hold your coins not for years but for a reasonabile time. Check the news and market dynamics, sell your altcoins when there is failure possibilty of the projects.

Be smart, not conservative.

Its true. Dont hold the altcoin which already has fail indication after some period because you will be lose.
Hold not promissing altcoin makes this holding even more dangerous so try to choose from good promissing one with high cap in market.

Depends on the coin. If it's a coin that isn't back by usability or isn't the first of its kind, it may run out long term. I feel safer when there's an all time high and I sell 50-100% of that coin rather hodling.

I reinvest that profit into other coins or back into the same coin if it goes back down.

With ADA or TRX, a long term hodl is much safer than some od these saturated privacy coins.

Not necessarily holding all the altcoin is dangerous, mainly in your place. You have the ability to analyze the altcoin that is potentially not in the future. If you choose the potential coins you will succeed in holding, the prices will rise dramatically in the future. If you choose the wrong you will hole and the altcoin you hold will die.

I am an amateur, assuming that it is risky to hold altcoin for too long especially if the altcoin has not had a stable value. If already experienced and already experts may be different thoughts.

Altcoins are clearly high risk high profit investment, yes if you won't do proper research - it is dangerous. But when you are sure about your alt, made good research, you can't name it dangerous at all. Cryptocurrencies are future and no one will stop it.
And just to make sure that you invest in a high profile holder of an altcoin before you out your money.
But many holders has a different thoughts, because of their experience. But I am sure that altcoin is our future.

Not sure what you exactly mean.

Invest in projects with a solid roadmap, excellent team and a community and you will be fine.

If you throw money are pump and dump copycat shit coins you will loose in the long term

In fact you should just make sure that you'll invested on some existing project that proves that your money wouldn't be wasted. Some alts are just focusing on giving up value with their coin and don't even care about their project to continue in short it was all just imaginary that's why don't be surprised why those alts are all dead now.

100% true. Invest and hold coins that has actual product either getting tested on or in testing and has customers lined up to use their tokens. One good example is universa— its not a crazy get rich quick sort of thing but they are outstanding in getting contracts after contracts. As long as the company is alive and is hungry youll be fone.

In fact, any investment of more than 5% per annum initially already has a very dangerous. The crypt gives a lot more, but you must soberly assess the situation.

When you hold coins "frozen", you should definitely keep track of the news about this coin, tk. possible exchange with the transition to a new algorithm, delisting from some exchanges, the replacement of wallets and much more.

Crypto currency is a tool for making money. If you do not know how to use it, don't have risk and money managment, then this can be dangerous for you. If you have a proper experience this will bring more profit than drawdowns.

Wait, I am not quite sure what you mean by dangerous in holding alts. Do you mean that when you hold alts it increases your your chance of getting mugged and getting your private keys by force? Everything is dangerous, even pencils, you know.

It seems to me that hodl is the best strategy to get big profits after a while. Of course, nobody knows how to market the market in the near future, but any strategy is dangerous.

Maybe dangerous if you are holding longer period for the Altcoin that is not legit and no viable project in long-run. So, If you have invested in the Altcoin without any paperwork to take the profit and exit. But, Altcoin that is a legit project and you have done your study then keep it longer period. Some of the good Altcoins are Litecoin, Dogecoin, BNT, CVCOIN, STQ, DIMCOIN etc.

it depends on the altcoin you are investing ofcourse you have to be very careful there put your own criteria and what suits you
Holding any coin/token shouldn't be called "dangerous" because it's not "dangerous". While you decided to hold any token, there are 3 possibilities from your investment later, first, your money will grow if the token/coin you hold are increased. Second, your investment will decreased because your coin/token's value/price are decreased, Third, your investment is almost/same like your initial balance because price are likely stable.
So we have to be very selective to what ALTS we are going to invest our money on
