mgio -- you can run them without flashing -- those instructions were for the old bitburners, these Fury's don't need to be flashed initially

However I am in the same situation as you, we can't do any firmware upgrades for the cards where the usb connector fell off, but they will run with the canbus connectors, at least mine are

also no cryptx reponse here,  very unprofessional

cf the breaking USB connectors; this is something common apparently, I saw the same is happening with a completely unrelated product (multirotor flight controller) where most of these microusb connectors fell off.

To prevent it from happening: just put some hot glue or even epoxy glue under and around the connector.

If it already happened, anyone with some basic soldering skills should be able to fix it. If you are not comfortable with a soldering iron, find a friend or shop to do it for you.

I've done this in the past and was actually planning on getting some epoxy to day to secure the remaining connectors.

I have a quality soldering iron and a magnifying glass and there is no way I could fix. It's way to small. Problem someone with much better eye-hand coordination could do it, but I'd probably just make it worse.

Can you post a picture? Ive fixed a few micro usb connectors with 4 relatively big pins, and that was really not that hard, its not like Im an expert. But I have seen other variants with tiny pins at the bottom that would be challenging to fix.

Either way, prevention is always better than curing, so everyone else: go get some glue.

Yeah, that looks more tricky. That would have needed a heatgun to reflow the solder instead of a soldering iron, but it doesnt exactly help that the traces have been ripped off the PCB. I would still give it a shot by soldering some wires to it, but thats just me

I like hotglue because you can always remove it later, but its not as stong as epoxy. Your choice I guess. If you go for hotglue, use generous amounts.

Hot glue it is then - I was a bit worried that the epoxy might seep into the USB socket and I'd never get it out.

order 108x received yesterday.  Say what you will about pricing but I ordered 2 boards on Sept 15, was promised delivery 2nd week of October and that's exactly what I got.  BRAVO.

You can upgrade the firmware with pickit3 programmer as I have done on few of my bitburners. Just before you do that , speak to Burnin or Cryptx to send you the firmware file that can be used with pickit3. Its different than the file you use via usb.

As to respiring the traces, have look on that site. I have used it to repair traces on the consoles and it works a treat.

- If I just got my 8-board kit yesterday do I need to upgrade the firmware before I can use the CANBUS cable? I've heard that it is only necessary for batch 1 and 2 but how do I know if I am in batch 1 or 2?

- I went to the electronics store, bought some ribbon cable and a crimper and made my own 8-socket CANBUS cable. It doesn't work though. I just get "usb_write error on avalon_write".
I'm using the special version of cgminer 3.5 from the installation instructions. I've terminated both ends of the CANBUS cable by adding the jumpers on the top and bottom board of the stack. I have the USB cable plugged into the bottom of the stack. All the boards seem to have power. Once again, I have NOT upgraded the firmare although I have a firmware programmer on order. What could be wrong?

ok, I figured somethings out. If I only plug in some of the miners, it works, so I have to figure out which is the broken miner (or broken canbus cable socket) that is messing up the chain. Possibly one of the USB connectors shorted when it came off. Good news is CANBUS DOES work without a firmware upgrade.

That solder joint is cold as HELL.  If you were / are close to Memphis (could be Egypt ... could be Tennessee ... who knows) I'd let you run that board through my DIY reflow oven.  In any case that's gonna take some PREMO solder mojo.

When trying to connect boards with the CAN-BUS cable, I frequently get errors like:

It seems ot be kind of random. I've trying every combination of 2 - 8 boards that I can. The only thing consistent is the first and last boards. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't but it is repeatable. I haven't been able to get more than 4 boards working at a time. But not always the same 4 boards.

What could be going wrong?

Can I plug in or remove the power connector while the psu is running? Don't wanna blow the board up.
