I wouldn't call a currency with a market cap of 40$ million dead. Bitcoin had bigger price drops before and it is still alive.

The slowly bursting (MtGox) bubble is not the death of Litecoin.
Development is still going on (0.9 branch, SPV client), there is a constant growth of sites that accept Litecoin, The Litecoin Foundation seems to get serious and Trezor Wallet will support Litecoin.
Doesn't sound like a dying project to me.

No, LTC is not "dying"... it's just feeling the competition.

Sunny King's strategy for PPC has been to directly target Litecoin's Cap...
And try to fragment the LTC Cap among several quality Alts including XPM.

Well, since it's early July peak LTC is down by almost 70%...
Since early July PPC is FLAT... and XPM is up 50% since October 1st.
Sunny King has now taken $8,000,000 out of LTC's cap...
And it's still 5 minutes after midnight.

Sunny King June 29th:

"I never said primecoin would fail in 5 years, what I mean is that it should give us a better overall grip at the market in the next 5 years. It is designed to last longer, as long as bitcoin and litecoin that is. I would not say this is sort of 'WMD' to bitcoin's dominance, that would be arrogant for me to say and I have too much respect for Satoshi and the current bitcoin development team.

It's really a tool to help us position against litecoin, which now has a too strong momentum for ppcoin to challenge by itself alone in the short term. If primecoin is successful, it could demonstrate the limitation of pure proof-of-work systems and help to level the playground faster."

PPC and XMP are the only alts that have shown resilience in the past couple months. ltc still in the running, but nowhere near the hype it had 3 or 6 months ago. and less every day.

LTC is being manipulated on BTC-E. A few days ago LTC was trying to rally and 2 $86k sells show up to force it down. Once it was down the sells went away. What would you expect from the russian mafia exchange?

i saw another post around this subforum (can't find it now) speculating about how the cryptsy ltc market is keep the market down. people mine crappy altcoins for ltc, then sell ltc for btc, keeping the ltc/btc rate down. might be something to it. i don't know what cryptsy volume is like on ltc markets.

possible, bigjohn takes sides. He refused to list SXC until the pressure from phoenix forced him to list it, but under the LTC market.  Meanwhile all scam coins his group is associated with are listed there under BTC. The crypto coins community are flooded with scammers and mafia groups. From the hardware manufacturers to the exchanges and eventually will destroy them. For a community that hates fiat and government control its surprising that it has allowed such groups to control it

Cryptsy is a tiny player now, regardless of what BJ says here.

I didn't know that there is so many Litecoin haters around, it has a been a while since last time I visited this subforum, but i have to say that there is so many new scam coins around here.... I do understand the hate around Alts because I am starting to feel the same, but litecoin and namecoin are one of the oldest and most useful and powerful alts that I would support/hold and accept as payment.

LTC was worth pennies not long ago, it had a really small network which now surpassed what bitcoin was at 2 years ago, there is always new businesses developing around it, a big trading volume, a great Dev team that also assist in Bitcoin developing at the same time, so it is going to mainstream slowly but, lets be realistic If LTC hits $10 in one year I would be more than happy.

Litecoin was never designed to take over Bitcoin and that wont happen, think of it as alternative the same as Visa/Master card, Bitcoin will be maybe the one big and only digital gold that any one would feel comfortable of holding, Litecoin is following Bitcoin and both are so big that they just cant die, except if the governments will kill if they cant regulate... this is the only scenario that I can think of when I hear bitcoin or litecoin will die

It has nothing to do with "hate" or emotions. The litecoin defenders are actually the ones full of emotions here.

emotions ? OK, lets base your statements on facts, so based on what Litecoin is dead/dying ? last time I did check it was doing just fine, and don't give the " it did crash"  BTC crashed so many times that if we base your statement on this BTC should be dead long time ago!

we still have a big volume, price is not $0 if this what you are referring to, well I call bullshit since Litecoin was at $0.07 just the start of this year, and now it is around $1.7 this is around 2400% rise, and yes BTC reached $260 and crashed to $60 so why didn't we call "shit BTC is dead" in fact BTC crashed so many times that if your statement is based on this fact then your logic make no sense...

LTC just printed 0.00973 on MCX... then bounced back to 0.0110 within 5 minutes.

Not a healthy looking security.

I remember people saying the exact same thing about Bitcoin when it went from $33 down to $1.9X. "Bitcoin is dead" ROFL.

Don't mistake "dead" from a buying opportunity.

But that's not the point at all. Oh, most altcoins are useless, but their value reflects that. However, Litecoin isn't getting any more support from services, actually it's losing services, but its value doesn't reflect that yet; it's mostly powered by hope.
Other than Atlantis (which took both BTC and LTC), what services has LTC lost?

LTC-GLOBAL. With many securities liquidating and no intention to relist, or not to relist in LTC.
I'm surprised someone like you missed that.
The start of this decline pretty much coincides.
GLBSE anybody?
