I had already commented on this but I want to add things that I have seen in the last few days in my country, in my country people gamble wildly, I say this because there are games of chance in every corner and people are very crowded to play whatever It even caught my attention because from what I could see these people are taking money that would be used to buy things in the real world and put it in gambling, and the saddest thing is that when these people win something like 50$ they don't see that value as something good , they look like a very small and insignificant value, I myself am shocked when I see someone say that 50$ is nothing and that they should earn a lot of money, the obsession with earning a lot of money is driving people crazy

In my humble opinion people should calculate how much money they will use and how much money will return back to gambling. By this way they can limit themselves pretty nicely.

Generally gambling addicts know such criteria, unfortunately many of the gambling addicts do not care how much money they spend, as well as the money they get from gambling wins.

Aware of the money at stake, sometimes many of us make bets to limit bets, for example: $10-100 dollars per day, but they never calculate what they spend annually without realizing that $ 36k has been donated to gambling, even though they have won occasionally, but if you take into account that you donate more than you get, that is the world of gambling, you never have special criteria, apart from losing.

Each gambler keeps his own records of money won/lost, and since these people are already gambling addicts they are likely to have lost more money than they won and instead of being happy with small winnings they do not count with them. In my opinion, chasing big winnings is one of the main mistakes of gamblers. After all, when a gambler is waiting for a big win, he will leave the game only when a big win or lose everything. And the second option is more likely.

The most important thing is gambling is money management. If you know how much you will invest in each game, how much profit you will be satisfied with and how many loss you can bear, all these things are a must if you want to be in profit in gambling.

If someone always want to win big and as in your example, do not consider 50$ or any amount to be considerable, then i am afraid such gamblers are those who lose in the long term. They may be lucky in short term but eventually they will fall for the greed and lose everything in gambling.

I can only say that a good gambler can control himself no matter what situation he is in. That's the gist of the bolded letters. If you can't control yourself, then most likely your output will be the opposite. Again, it is easy to say but difficult to do since there are really times we can't control ourselves, but we should do this as it is for our own good. But again, nobody is perfect, so there are still instances where you can, like, chase your losses, but it should be at a minimal rate as it can cost you a lot.

You can say that a good gambler can control himself no matter the circumstances.
But the reality is that 90% of those in the world of gambling are not good gamblers. What's more, for those who are really addicted to gambling and have a lot of money, it will be difficult to be able to control themselves.
For us it may be easy to just say or give good advice but it is very difficult to be able to implement it. For example, if we ourselves are gambling addicts and have a lot of money, it will be difficult for us to be able to hear and take advice from other people to be able to control yourself in gambling.
So a phrase or advice is only considered a joke for a gambler and they will never care about it.

There are many gamblers who may not know what are the things to consider for a good gambler. I believe that many of those who are financially capable may not follow any rules. It is their personal matter. But there are many people who may not be big gamblers but try to follow various advices, maybe this post by OP can give them something good information. It is not possible to keep all the qualities in one person, but if these qualities are in a gambler and can manage gambling according to the mentioned advices, then gambling can be advanced to some extent.

In any case, having control of yourself is extremely important.

Overall, we agree with what you said.  in this case, that most gambling addicts don't really care about how much money they spend, as well as the money they win from gambling, the important thing is that they can still play to fulfill their addiction desires. if we try to calculate the total amount of money we spend per year for gambling, maybe the amount is quite large. however, we rarely realize this or maybe we often ignore it.

well, even though we know very well, be it addicts or non-addicts. but anyway, we still gamble even though we realize that the money we risk is very high to lose. so like you said, this is the world of gambling. the fact is that we are still involved in it, even if only for a hobby.

Assuming that gambling exists for fun (which is true for most decent gamblers), then your list of qualities can be completely inverted. It doesn't matter whether a person is focused or not and whether he makes the "correct" bets - the main thing is that he enjoys it (and loses an adequate amount of money, of course).

A gambler can do all this that you said and still lose his bet, personally I just think a gambler just have to be extremely lucky to become a good gambler. You can only be good when you win as a constant losers that lose any bet that he place can't be called a good gambler. There are things that you can do to prepare yourself for opportunity so when they come you can take it and win.

Some of those things are like having money available for you to bet so you don't start begging for money when the time comes. Having good money management skills is very underated as people don't realize how important money management is until they don't have any more.

this could be said to be greed. I mean when that guy has $50 and he says it's like it's not worth it at all and chooses to make a lot of it out of gambling and the greed that's ingrained in his mind. even though for me @50 is already worth quite a bit but for a greedy gambler always values $50 like $0.5 and they want $50 to be $1000 or $10000.
but I'm sure that person who thinks $ 50 is nothing he must often lose at gambling.

I don't think it's greed. Much depends on a person's wealth and how much money he is willing to spend on gambling.

I spend no more than $100-200 per gambling session, so for me $50 is a lot of money.

If we are talking about gamblers who live in countries where most of the population makes $1-5 a day, working full time, then $50 is a lot of money for them.

That's why I don't think it's greed. It's either recklessness or these gamblers have too good salaries.

Thats quite the interesting list you made there, OP. But unfortunately I would have to argue with you on the grounds that everyone is only human and will make newbie mistakes in gambling. The idea of a "good gambler" does not really exist. Although I would agree that if people were to follow your points, it would lead them to lose less money. But whether because of an emotional outburst, getting too greedy, believing in superstitious luck or some other reason, at some point in time, even the most experienced gambler will make a rash decision which will definitely lead to a great loss of money.

a good gambler never chase profit
Profit might be the first reason why people gamble, but a good gambler never attached to the profit, the most important thing in gambling is excitement and fun experience, having profit is just the bonus

a good gambler able to control himself / herself
Self controlling is very important in gambling, without a clear mind there will be a lot of mistakes in betting and even causing reckless betting and losing all of the money in split second

a good gambler know when to stop
Setting a limit is very important in gambling, setting a lost limit will prevent you to over spend your money and setting a win limit is  also important because in the long run the house got a bigger chance to win due to the house edge

a good gambler never cause any problem to the surrounding
A good gambler know that the chances of losing money in gambling is huge, so a gambler should never used daily needs money or borrowing money to gamble, and a gambler should never think of robbery or stealing to gamble

a good gambler can accept lost
When losing a good gambler won't blame the surrounding, cursing or accusing the  casino as fraud places, losing is the half part of gambling, if you can't accept lost then dont start to gamble

a good gambler should able to manage the time
A good gambler know how to split the time for family, for friends and for gambling, a good gambler never neglected family or friend just because of gambling

We must encourage people to become a good gambler, so people won't always have a bad judgement about gambler

I"m sure that this is no secret formula here and you are not the first one to analyse and give advise on how to be a good  gambler. But why is this not effective and many people are going into gambling everyday? Because  they want to get easy money. And no matter how many advises you gave them, they wouldn't follow it because its human nature to be greedy and have dreams of hitting a jackpot one day to give them a good life in the future.

So I don't believed such thing as good gambler, if ever there are one in the books, they are just recreational gambler in the beginning but at the end will turn into addicted gambler.

And I do believe there is no GOOD Gamblor like thing which ever exist - Gamblers have greed for money and that lust is deadly
The formula OP shared is very valid and that is bookish thing - which remains in book most of the time - in real life there is no good gamblor - all of them would chase money and that is it.

When we do tend to gamble then these are the primary things you should always check;

1. Spend the money which is intended only for that sessions
2. Dont make yourself that greedy
3. Dont make yourself that impulsive
4. Dont go beyond borders or speaking with limitation.

This is where people do usually find themselves do forgot until the time comes that they are really that
doing those bad decisions.

In addition, a good gambler must have or know :

• Discipline
• Knowledge
• Emotional Control
• Bankroll Management
• Responsible Gambling
• Understanding the odds and probability

• Setting realistic goals

Well, just like how you position your statement, it depends with how a person thinks about his gambling allocation, if he can do what you have mentioned the chance of succeeding is quite possible, it will reflect to your gambling activities all those patterns and strategy that you will going to use as long as you can keep the setup intact.

Yes, for me this is something very relevant.
If you have a little knowledge in finance/investments I have no doubt that you will have less problems than an ordinary person would.

Another important factor is the mentality, and its psychology, I believe that these are one of the main factors for a person not to become an addict or also to not lose their money!!

Like the OP mentioned, "a good gambler never chases profit." It makes me wonder if a good gambler never chases profit at all or if they chase it but don't become too concerned about the profit. It is true that gambling is for fun and excitement, but if the profit were not there, a lot of people would not gamble. So I think a good gambler can chase profit but will not feel too concerned about it because if they don't chase profit, they would only gamble to lose, or even when they are losing, they just keep gambling for the fun.

It's not about making oneself so greedy, but I think that on some occasions, emotion plays some unfortunate roles, so having self-control should be an early step to take, as the OP also stated.

@oadharber, OP has talked about self-control, so if a gambler is self-disciplined and has self-control, they won't do what you stated as 1 and 2.
