Well, I have just checked. My client got the whole blockchain from the scratches and this took ~20 minutes. Would take less if there were not so many "connection timeout" errors.

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Is there a way to be sure your node is aiding the network?  Maybe a populated active peers list indicates this?  If I can be sure, I will set up more nodes.

Should a node maximize CPU, RAM, or bandwidth?

Just keep it running, ur node will push blocks and transactions. Chose bandwidth for private node and RAM+bandwidth for public one.

I'm not sure what you mean.

When someone sends a transaction he must set a deadline when a transaction expires.

Oh okay, all of the transactions were actually forged block rewards from yesterday.

Next is apparently still broken. I already see people writing about "THE NEXT SCAM".

The only thing that has changed about NXT since yesterday is that it was heavily attacked.   Angry

Also, another thing that has changed is an influx of people setting up nodes left and right making the network stronger!

If a payment network can not sustain an attack it is worthless.

Does anybody know how the consensus works in next?

Hello.

I have one question related to transaction for sending nxt or registering aliases what happends if
the transaction is sent but afterwards the client(server) is closed or disconected from the
network before the end of the deadline?
Does the NRS needs to be connected to the network the whole time until the
the end of the deadline for the transaction to be successfull?!

Thanks.

Each and every thing that one might type in that field will always lead you back to the same account if it were retyped.   Cool

So far so good but whats the "click to authorize on third party website" bit?  Do I need to type in a particular website in the field? And what do I do (if anything) with the token it generates?

Apologies for all the questions haha

U was forging on a shorter chain and after blockchain reorg ur blocks became orphaned.

Now we are at least talking about a "decentralized" network (I would not recommend people to use the blockchain downloads).

My node isn't quite up to date yet but does seem to be making good progress (a very good thing) - far better to know that your node knows the correct chain.

Even if there is no account number?  Can I get an account number without running the GUI client?

Is it better to set up 10 nodes at $10/month or 1 node at $100/month?

I'm sorry for asking this again - but I have been stuck at 22962 for hours. I copied the files from the nxtiles.zip but nothing is moving.

Yes, this is a good thing for the dev to experience while in beta, will help them prepare for more attacks in the future.

Account number doesn't matter. Use http://localhost:7874/nxt?requestType=getAccountId&secretPhrase=123 to get account id.

I would say that 10 x 10$ is better.

The same as in Bitcoin.

As far I understand it there is no incentive to run a node in next? What keeps me from installing 1000 nodes and doing a 51% attack? In Bitcoin there is the expensive POW but how does the nxt network gets secured?

I would recommend you don't do this - a decentralized system does not need a centralized blockchain - just stop your client then delete your *.nxt files (and perhaps *.nxt.bak also) and start it again.

It will take a while to update but it should be on the correct chain.
