CfB has mentioned that if one gets access to the memory of Java Virtual Machine then your passphrase would be exposed.

Quote
That makes forging a *very* risky endeavor!

Wouldn't a big stakeholder have to have the biggest balls in the world to forge?  Everyone knows their IP.  Does everyone know their account number (and balance) if they're forging?  If so, they're a massive target with a huge reward.

New version of the mac client:

https://copy.com/0wiHjhw33QGj

Changes:

- It no longer contains a partial blockchain in the binary.
- "Redownload blockchain" command (under Tools) allows you to restart the blockchain from scratch, good if you ever get stuck on a fork again.
- Uses 0.4.4 by default.

It may well take a little while longer on first start of the app since it needs to download the entire blockchain, but after that you should be good to go :-)

Quote from: Timetwister

The client is what I see when going to localhost:7875, right? I have tried to delete blocks.nxt and transactions.nxt, and when I open the browser and unlock (creating another address...), most recent block is 23254 and it doesn't update from there.

By the term "client" I meant the program that you run in black window with java -jar command. Just unzip the 0.4.4 version of it in the new folder and run it from there.

Oh, I see what could be wrong. When I execute start.bat, a black window appear and it instantly dissappears. Do you know what can be the cause of that?

Sorry for making so many noob questions.

Installation instructions are provided in the first post of this topic:

Quote
- Unzip 'nxt.zip'
- Go to your Nxt Directory                        'cd C:/PATH_TO_NXT_FOLDER'
- Start Nxt                                                 'java -Xms512m -Xmx1024m -jar start.jar'

It depends on your NXT holdings. The more you have the more you earn. It's making rich richer. No joke.

"The matrix has you"

What's the matter?

U connect to a remove client. Change "allowedUserHosts" in web.xml on that client to ur real IP.

I changed it to my local wireless router's IP address(public network IP address, and my private IP address is 192.168.1.102), however, "The matrix has you" again! In this case, how should I do if I want to use it?

Thanks for your patience.

U can do such a trick:

1. Set allowedBotHosts to *
2. Open http://mynode.com:7874/nxt?requestType=getMyInfo
3. Copy value of "host" to allowedUserHosts
4. Change allowedBotHosts to the same value

Great! Done!

BTW, the IP address is different from what I get from the router's control panel, nor the same as other whatismyip website.

Another question:

Can I publish this local IP address (get from getMyInfo) ?

Since 0.4.4 the UI is lagging a lot

During blockchain downloading?

No, I am up to date, but when I switch to the tab where NxT is running it takes around a minute to show the content. When I mouseover on the confirmation numbers (10+) it takesaround 2 minutes to show the tooltip.

Yes, but are the account numbers of hallmarked nodes known?  If so, an attacker could target the one with the highest balance.

Running local 0.4.4 client for few hours with hallmark=false. Other settings default. No issues.

I was having similar problems on Firefox. On Opera it works much better - no lags. At least on linux.

F5 (refresh) should help.

No... the accounts are not known.

This is incorrect. Hallmark contains account id. Hallmarks r for true men only Smiley

No, it isn't running. Start.bat just has: java -jar start.jar

Is that correct? When I execute it, a black window opens and closes automatically.

I understand... hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, click Start Task Manager, go to the Processes tab, and kill any java .exe that is running.

...or restart your PC ...obviously this is referring to Windows users!   Cheesy

There's no java.exe running. I have also tried to restart. And it keeps autoclosing after I start it.

- Start Nxt                                                 'java -Xms512m -Xmx1024m -jar start.jar'

Does that mean that instead of "java -jar start.jar" I have to write "java -Xms512m -Xmx1024m -jar start.jar" in the start.bat?

I'm not using Windows but I suppose that you need to put it in the command line window (Start/Run/cmd). The -Xms and -Xmx aren't necessary but should help with memory allocation.
