For those of you that are interested in the exciting RaspPi story:

I've opened my RPi NXT server to the net. Access it by: https://raspnxt.hopto.org:7875

Just in case you wonder how NRS performs on an RPi.

Feel free to try out testing or even "serious" addresses, as both IP and RPi are completely under my control. That is, only if you trust my network, of course. Cool

Very nice, up and running my toy 10NXT account on your Pi no problem.  I'm showing 6 active peers.  I will mine a block in only 6243 days!

So...my account is running on this one Pi until...when?  Indefinitely?  Until you or somebody else kicks me off?  Or I get off to give somebody else a turn?  How many Pis do you have hooked up at this web address?

Seems to work, syncs blocks, doesn't show active peers, how long does it work without having to restart it?

Anyway, I guess 0.4.8 is supposed to fix memory leaks, so it should get more stable very soon now.

Another article of interest http://www.coindesk.com/goldman-sachs-director-board-bitcoin-startup-circle/
Many big whales are into digital currency right now. They don't even know what is coming in the form of the Nxt network. The good thing about these news is that it indicates digital currency and decentralized network are here for a long haul.

I am thankful for all the effort the developers have put into this venture. But I suspect some of you can't even imagine how potentially big  all of these things are going to get. It is going to be chaotic. More efforts are needed.

Any idea when 0.4.8 get's released?

Jean-Luc, the new dev, is working on it. I guess it's logical that it should be released on Jan 3, but I have no idea.

hi swartzfeger you are right,
i can see your complete aliases but only a couple are shown.
there is a bug in transaction<->alias mapping, preventing showing all.
i am solving this issue today.

You're a rockstar!

CfB, are the aliases case sensitive? The wiki doesn't mention...

aliases should run fine on all accounts now. could you please check the correct number?
i see 333 currently connected to your account.

http://87.230.14.1/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=3000&acc=13891739725946840876

if ok, i am adding pagination and the searchengine for all alliases today.

Now that the USS NRS Enterprise has been making successful test flights, we have to get ready for our first trip outside the solar system, scheduled for Jan 03.

What a fine voyage that shall be with this fine ship and crew, sir.   Good luck to us all!

I know you've got a million things to look at in the code, please allow me to bring one more to your attention that I have mentioned earlier to CfB.  With the looming and critical importance of the Raspberry Pi to NXT, I suggest for monitoring purposes that a peer in the client list be identified as a Pi and designated by a raspberry-colored "star" (as a variation on the current blue) beside the software version it is running.   Basically, if NXT is running on an Armv6 processor, it's running on a Pi.  See:  http://htpcbuild.com/hardware/standalone-htpc-build/raspberry-pi-htpc/raspberry-pi-codec-license-install/ for details.

Jean Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise....  Cheesy  I had to do it...it was just too tempting

Edit: USS Nxterprise boldly go where no Crypto has gone before.
In a hindsight, I have really picked up an appropriate pseudonym. I never imagined I will make the progress from a forum Newbie to a Captain that fast.

I hereby appoint CfB as my First Officer.

Now that the USS NRS Enterprise has been making successful test flights, we have to get ready for our first trip outside the solar system, scheduled for Jan 03.

I am now proof-reading the code for any visible bugs. The memory leak has been fixed and I hope version 0.4.8 should have lower memory consumption and not require periodic restart. Next, there are some minor thread safety bugs I noticed that I will fix. I can also think of some optimization in the peer networking code, right now we create a lot of temporary byte[] and char[] that put extra load on the garbage collector and increase the memory usage too, but this is not urgent.

I need to do some refactoring of the code, because now everything is in one huge file. The parts that are to remain closed source will have to be factored out, as much as possible, in separate classes, so that they can be distributed in compiled form, still allowing one to work on the base open source part without having the complete source.

I also need to pick up a repository where we should host the source code, and prepare it for the Jan 03 launch. Probably github, but I need to investigate the alternatives.

Aye aye captain Godspeed. Congrats and welcome aboard. CFB you rock, keep doing what you do. This is going to grow into one of the most efficient teams in crypto lacking stifling bureaucracies

I already added a special parameter into web.xml that defines the platform NRS runs on. It's shown in interface as
Code:
NRS (0.4.8) @ RaspbPi
It's just a text string (up to 10 chars), we can add something better into admin console later, when NRS interface will be replaced by clients developed by others.

Minimal server install?

How about splitting out web client from server? As well as pulling out jetty?

Thanks Luc for coming in. I have a lot of confidence in Nxt development team. Together we can make this work. The truth is you don't know what is going to happen tomorrow. Life is a crazy ride, and nothing is guaranteed.

Interesting article about the decline of Facebook
http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2013/dec/27/facebook-dead-and-buried-to-teens-research-finds
When the arbitrary message functionality works, I think we have a decent chance to find a niche here with right promotional efforts.
So pay attention development team Smiley

We have to make a determined push for mobile...the android app is already full steam ahead and the iPhone app is starting off.

http://coinmarketcap.com/

Wow, look at the nxt volume, 5th out of all the coins (including many older ones). DGEX is doing good work Cool

This is a new indicator worth watching, much more significant and indicative of public interest than their default ranking of market cap.  Just wait til NXT is on Cryptsy and all the Doge folk come to play with our shiny new toy...

The total trading volume in USD gives a good measure of the overall market share.....total usd traded....divide by specific trading volume and you get a clear picture of your market share.

You can also see who is growing and shrinking...and this matrix should stay fairly constant no matter the price movement of each specific coin.

Edit:
Ripples Marketcap is Huge! but they are no bigger than Worldcoin this gives good perspective on the market terrain.

We can now see why other coins would be worried....Nxt has been trading for less than a month and its 5 times Mastercoin marketshare.

This is because Dgex was down for a long time so trade volume will be more higher once it is up for more than 24 hours continuous.
